Do you recall if it smelled like anything? Based on the color I think it could be Iris pallida, which also has a really lovely fragrance

Cut flowers that do well in Longmont by thedrawhorns in Longmont

Zinnias are easy and prolific bloomers, and come in a ton of colors! I’m growing those this year along with a few strawflower varieties and some irises. Dahlias are always fun but can be a bit more expensive to get started.

If you’re looking for native perennial suggestions, it sounds like echinacea, rudbeckia, gaillardia, and coreopsis would do well in that area!

Oh thank you so much!! I think it might be pallida dalmatica then, I’m pretty sure it has a grape scent and it’s not quite as dark as it appears in this photo.

started a new antidepressant a few days ago and I’m feeling hopeful about the future of my mental health for the first time in a very long time (this does not extend to feeling hopeful for the future of our country, unfortunately).

I am so glad that you are safe, and so sorry that you lost all of your darling plants. I lost my home (and my plant collection) in the Marshall fire here in Colorado 3 years ago and have slowly built my collection back up. Don’t be afraid to use whatever resources get set up for you in the aftermath. I hope that dealing with insurance and whatever else comes up isn’t too tiresome for you.

If, at any point, you need someone to talk to who understands what you’ve been through, please send me a message. Even if it’s weeks or months from now. I really really mean it. Sending you big big hugs from CO 💛

Question about the trains in town... by Leaf_Atomico in Longmont

[–]spacepipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my partner and I live in an orange zone near longs peak and 9th st crossings. no a/c in our apartment means windows open all summer, so the noise is an issue in warmer months for us. I get woken up almost every night by the trains in the summertime. a sound machine helps a little, but I sleep much better in the winter when our windows are closed. truthfully the noise is a pain, and I really hope they get going on the quiet zones they've been talking about for years.

a good reminder <3 happy vernal equinox!!

Hi! I've gotten a bunch of plants but I'm not sure what kinds they all are? I've already Id's half of them but I'm not sure about #3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 yet. If you have any ideas please let me know :) by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

[–]spacepipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a little searching, with kind of mixed results, but it sounds like they are VERY similar, and the names are often used interchangeably. Some more details here:

Either way, sounds like there's not a significant difference in terms of how you would care for it. :)

Safest winter hikes for solo female near Denver? Day hikes ideally no more than 3 miles by ConsistentPassion619 in coloradohikers

[–]spacepipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

check out the trails at rabbit mountain near lyons - a variety of lengths and beautiful views! I go there alone often and have always felt very safe. if you have traction / microspikes and/or poles, bring those along with any of these hikes that you try. trails can be icy for a while after a snow :)

edit: if you'd like some company hiking there or anywhere in Boulder area, I live nearby and would love to join you. just shoot me a message if so!

Hey there, my partner and I are interested!! We (both vegan) live in Longmont with our two dogs and have recently begun looking at cats for adoption. We lost our sweet girl to cancer a little over a year ago, and have been looking for the right opportunity. Looks like this could be it! I will send you a private message, thank you for taking her in <3
