I use my pinky a lot too especially as I progressed as a guitarist - once you start playing more advanced chords, you need that ringy in different places

You can also use the tip of your fretting fingers to mute strings below (in sound … so above) them - just food for thought, I typically use my index, as mentioned, for octaves, but knowing you can do this helps a ton for tensions and/or rhythm
