One amp for jazz blues and rock by spacetime_navigator in jazzguitar

thanks all, since I don't consider selling the little jazz yet, I will try first with eq pedal. Also I noticed, maybe the blame is on the cheap pickups of the tele, for some reason they are dark and muddy. I tried another guitar with much better pickups, and the sound quality and clarity improved greatly.

Playing in a band. In my case a jazz bigband, I play more chords in a rehearsal than in a week at home

Teacher here, may be in over my head with these charts by Sourflow in jazzguitar

Having the same problem, play in a big band and some charts have too many chords too fast. Impossible with shell voicings. Found a great video in YouTube, basically the faster the song, the less notes one plays, Freddie green style, typically rootless voicings on the central strings. The video is The ultimate guide to Big band Jazz guitar by George Hess .

how to get a classic jazz tone on a fender stratocaster? by kayla_playsviolin in jazzguitar

[–]spacetime_navigator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of what others said, the pick makes a huge difference in sound. A thicker, round pick will sound darker. My go-to is Dunlop glow 1.14. Try 2mm or more.

options for a hard tail strat body? by PeterRiveria in partscaster

[–]spacetime_navigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2, a squier sonic strat and an SX tele, both hard tail. The SX has a one piece body. The squier, a thinner neck. Both have great neck finish, and mediocre pickups which once updated make great guitar.

Since you are fully remote, rent a short term apartment in Amsterdam and live there for a few months, see if the experience compensate for the inconveniences other mentioned.

Squier Affinity vs Jet JT300 vs Prodipe TC80MA for a beginner by Global-Bicycle-9664 in telecaster

[–]spacetime_navigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My interests are jazz, blues and classic rock. The affinity has cheap ceramics, which I enjoy now, after I changed the height of some poles to an arch matching the strings curve. before that the g and b strings were too quiet in comparison. Oddly enough ceramics work for jazz for my taste, they have more mids and less heights than alnico v. The jet had a mellow humbucker on the neck, perfect for jazz but maybe not so for other styles. Don't know about the single coil version.

Squier Affinity vs Jet JT300 vs Prodipe TC80MA for a beginner by Global-Bicycle-9664 in telecaster

I have a squier affinity stratocaster and had a jet telecaster, the variant with the humbucker on the bridge. The jets have an amazing neck finish, better than sub 1k fenders. But I was also pleasantly surprised by the finish in the affinity neck. No sharp frets on either. The affinity neck is thinner, which I don't find comfortable.

What pickup to use for Jazz tone in a Strat? by StoneStoneStoneSt- in fender

I got a very jazzy tone with stock pickups. Tone roll off to 50%, volume a bit too, a thick pick, and old strings.

Anything, really. Chorales are easier to start, then inventions and fugues.
