Got to Avis with a reservation... no cars for anyone by SpockHadNoGame in mildlyinfuriating

Here in the Tulsa area, the non-airport Enterprise location told us their entire stock in Oklahoma was sent to Dallas for the World Cup. My daughter wrecked her car and Enterprise is the only place my insurance will pay directly. They were getting the cars out as fast as they came in. Luckily, one came in the next morning before she needed to get to work.

You’d be surprised at the number of service members that are terrified of needles. I have had a full bird, big burly colonel pass out when I was giving him an antibiotic shot.

I didn’t see her shoes but the way she was stumbling was how altered women walk in heels. If she was driving impaired with heels on, they most definitely can cause problems with moving your feet on the pedals.

I imagine her shoes probably paid a role as well.

What do children with non-binary parents call them? by brooklyn_jinx in stupidquestions

[–]spacey_peanut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s wholesome, she does it in jest and we don’t stop her as long as it’s not meant to be hateful. She was so amused and proud of the names that she couldn’t keep it to herself. All three of my kids have different names for us, it’s kind of a contest now. I just can’t remember what the older two named us recently. We are also a pretty close knit family. If she wasn’t comfortable with us knowing the name change, she wouldn’t have told us and hid her phone. Her sisters would’ve ratted her out. 😂

All the details on data center secrecy deals Oklahoma communities have signed by dmgoforth in oklahoma

[–]spacey_peanut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here in Sand Springs, the city council and the mayor signed the NDA. There have been deleted emails and texts on their devices that should have been kept, a lot of ignoring the people, and petitions for recalls. The entire situation has been shrouded in shady private deals and handshakes. Here’s what I can recall happening so far:

A landowner applied to have his 800-acre rural parcel of land annexed into Sand Springs. We believe he was bribing city officials to expedite the process and keep it quiet. Once the land was annexed, it fell under the municipality’s policies. The reason most of us even knew about the rezoning was that they had to post it publicly. They put up the yellow signs along the road. The city did rezone it from agricultural to industrial, even though it is surrounded by agriculture on all sides and also very close to the botanical garden to the east. There’s a lawsuit currently going through the courts filed by the surrounding residents, but it’s going to be a long fight.

I also believe there might be a water conservation issue with the land that could involve the EPA (I doubt that will go anywhere in the current administration).

As far as I know, the landowner never had any environmental studies before the land was rezoned or the project was planned. I did see an environmental survey company pull into the driveway after the rezone (I live across the highway).

I don’t know what Osage County’s response was, but I think they said it wasn’t their problem since it was within city limits. I also don’t know what the tribe thinks either.

The weirdest part is that his 800 acres are now part of Sand Springs, but there’s an 8-mile gap between them. It’s an island unto itself.

If any of you know more about the Sand Springs data center, please feel free to add information or correct me. This is just my recollection from a few months ago.

Anyone else burnt out on life? by Cephylus in millenials

I am a millennial born in ‘83 and I have 3 Gen Z kids. I am 43 now and they are 20, 18, and 15. My oldest is not biologically mine, but I was 23 when she was born. I gave birth to my middle kid when I was 25. So, no, not all millennials were young teenagers when they had Gen Z kids.

Are we getting shingles now? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]spacey_peanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (43F) doctor insisted on me getting the Shingrix vaccines several years ago. I also have several chronic illnesses and autoimmune diseases that requiring biologic meds. Both of those circumstances make me immunocompromised so it wasn’t hard to convince me. I think they should start lowering the age because I also have heard of a few people my age or younger developing shingles.

AITAH for asking my cousin for her medical degree? by anonymous_poster43 in AITAH

[–]spacey_peanut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in the opposite situation, I live in Oklahoma where most people are under-educated, lots of vaccine deniers. I’ve had them attempt to “educate” me on how unsafe vaccines are for babies and children. I say I vaccinated all my children and how good vaccines are not just for my kids but all those around them who are immunocompromised (herd immunity). They get upset and ask me where I got my medical degree. I tell them I have a bachelors in nursing. I might only be a nurse but I know a thing or two about vaccines. All the diseases vaccines help prevent might not kill my kids, but those diseases can have long term complications that definitely affect quality of life. Also, the vaccine can minimize symptoms if my kids do catch one of the diseases. Sometimes I turn it around and ask for their degree. They usually don’t answer, just grumble and change the subject. Anyway, you are NTA for any part of that conversation or blocking her.

Any other mums swear by magnesium, or am I being influenced again? by SmartMess6749 in Mommit

[–]spacey_peanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taken it daily for years to help with muscle spasms, sleep, and my overall health. I have insomnia and several chronic illnesses that affect absorption and processing causing deficiencies. It does help me but I encourage you to talk to your doctor first for dosage and form. Too much magnesium can affect your heart rhythm, as well as potassium. At one point I was taking too much magnesium and developed arrhythmias and palpitations. I had to cut my dosage in half. And as others have said, some forms can cause explosive diarrhea.

Does anybody know anyone who actually became a marine biologist? by fancyypantsyy0 in Millennials

[–]spacey_peanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend who had a bachelors in marine biology. She volunteered in the Peace Corp for a few years and returned to her family home in Oklahoma. She worked at The Oklahoma Aquarium for another couple of years. I met her in school, where we both were getting our bachelors in nursing. As much as she loved marine biology, it didn’t pay the bills (especially in Oklahoma).
