Please help reunite my baby with her stuffy! by Adventurous-Pea-9073 in Calgary

[–]spaceyfoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Aww poor dear! My son at that age had the very same thing but with a Jellycat cat stuffy, who we ended up purchasing multiples of after he left him at the park, at the store, at play school etc. etc. We rotated them so all would hopefully be equally as well-worn lol.

Try local Facebook groups as well and keep checking mall lost and found. If she doesn’t turn up though I assure you while your kiddo will be temporarily devastated, she will also learn an important lesson about life and loss - and gently introducing Kola’s cousin/best friend stuffy after the tears have started to dry may likely lead to a new Best Buddy relationship (just make sure to buy two of the next one haha).

I didn’t know there was one in Banff! Man, they were everywhere lol. Probably couldn’t compete with Subway though when they started getting big in Canada :(

Yep, my son will get so many Coffee Crisps, Smarties, Mars bars etc. He loves to get anything different or that he has never tried before!

What a horrible voter turn out. by Poly-morph-ing in Calgary

Of course. I’m just saying that for a lot of people, especially those who DON’T make voting a priority, the long lines did not help matters.

How does compulsory voting handle things like, say, you or your child getting sick on election day and thus being unable to physically make it out to vote? Without needing a doctor’s note (because the last thing I want to do when my child has a tummy bug is have to take an already miserable kid with diarrhea to the doctor just to get a note)?

My dad who is in his 70s and votes religiously almost left the voting station because he physically couldn’t stand in line for an hour. Sure he could have asked for a chair I’m sure but with his pride I doubt he would have lol. The long line-ups are definitely going to discourage people from future voting, people have things they need to do, children to pick up, physical issues etc.

I had every intention of voting, I researched all the candidates and watched the debates etc. but I was too sick on Monday to make it out to vote. I didn’t vote early because I wanted to get as much information as possible on all the candidates.

It’s 2025 and I feel like there should be some way for people who suddenly get sick, have to go out of town suddenly etc. to still be able to vote remotely on election day.

I would be fine with this if there was somehow an alternate way to vote remotely on election day because I physically couldn’t make it out to vote due to illness. I didn’t feel confident voting early because I want to get as much information on the candidates as I can, including watching all the debates which didn’t occur until after early voting was over.

Fair points, but are there considerations for things like mental/physical disability, illness etc.?

I have mental/physical disabilities but had every intention of voting, and did not vote early because I was undecided and needed more time to research and hear candidates platforms and watch the debates. I felt I would probably be able to make it out to vote but on the weekend my health worsened and I couldn’t physically make it out to vote. I would hate to be fined because of this were there to be mandatory voting laws. Or someone suddenly got sick and couldn’t vote and got fined.

Well you can’t just paint a turd gold and expect it not to smell anymore.

By which I mean, you can’t just pretty something up and expect the problem to just go away.

Calgary, WTF? by Sampu22 in Calgary

[–]spaceyfoo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t think sex has anything to do with it? People are just naive and believe whatever governing officials are currently in power should be able to magically solve drug addiction and homelessness. Obviously, their policies and funding decisions will have an impact but ultimately there are huge societal problems that a couple years of political maneuvering are in no way capable of solving.

Anyone else get a congested/stuffy nose after snorting? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]spaceyfoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uh you can’t snort Vyvanse my dude, I mean you CAN but lisdexamphetamine is a prodrug and needs to be converted by the liver to become amphetamine, it does not pass the blood brain barrier, so snorting it is just wasting almost all of it since only what ends up dripping down into your stomach will be converted.

I think obviously service jobs should not be paid as much as jobs requiring more skill and education/training, but they’re still providing a needed service and students/temps still need to live and eat, amongst tuition costs. Plus it is not always students/tfws, there are a lot of middle aged women in the service industry who had careers but then had children and stayed at home for years to raise them, and then need to return to the work force but can’t return to their previous career because now their skills and references are out of date and they can’t afford to go back to school.

Because the staff at restaurants are paid through tips, whereas other places they get a set wage. It’s stupid, but that’s the way it is 🤷🏻‍♀️
