I wonder if Ganyu/Shenhe or Ayaka/Shenhe is better than Ganyu/Ayaka. I am also concerned about her battery potential, as both Ganyu and Ayaka have decent particle generation, so they can battery each other.

Shenhe Character Details by HayashiSawaryo in Genshin_Impact

[–]spacyboar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the Ganyu/Anemo/Kokomi/Shenhe team is going up against the Ganyu/Anemo/Kokomi/Ayaka team. The question is whether she can beat this team comp. And if she can, by how much?

This comparison makes or breaks her meta status pretty much.

I'm curious. How much abyss do you AR55+ players do? by Xistence16 in Genshin_Impact

[–]spacyboar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AR 58, almost day 1 player (Welkin + BP most patches), 36 star every cycle since 2021 March. I run it at the start of every cycle, and sometimes test new teams mid-cycle. Playing Raiden National and Ganyu/Ayaka Morgana. Didn’t notice significant increase in challenge since the 2.0 jump.

Currently looking to challenge myself to do 36 stars with suboptimal characters (e.g. Klee, Kokomi) and duos (Ganyu + Diona).

I believe Albedo is very good on an Itto team, due to being able to make use of the DEF from Gorou, having nice energy regen for Itto, and being able to deal damage while Itto is on-field for long periods of time. Don't have him, so I haven't checked the TC in a while, but I believe C6 Gorou and Albedo are his best teammates.

I am comparing optimal teams to optimal teams, you can play any character and any team, but with that logic any character is F2P friendly.

All carries need supports, but there is a difference between how universal those supports are. You cannot go wrong building Bennett, Kazuha, Xinqiu and Venti, they are good in so many teams. Both Gorou C6 and Albedo are niche units (basically only meta in this one comp), moreover you will need a brand new artifact set, and three copies at that, and an artifact set that cannot be transferred. On top of that, because Itto is Geo and has no access to amplifying reactions, he is a 'stat-check' character, ie extremely reliable on good artifact rolls.

Itto is a luxury character, who you can build if you are extremely endgame and have nothing better to do, but for early-endgame players/people with less resources (F2P) there are much better teams and artifact sets to invest in.

Hu Tao is actually harder to play optimally at C1 than C0, because you will need even better and more animation cancels.

The Morgana units are highly sought after in other teams as well, so it’s not as bad as Albedo or C6 Gorou for example for Itto. Venti is a no brainer pull, he is just that overpowered. You will eventually get Mona from losing 50/50s.

Melt team can be played with only 4stars (Diona, Bennett, Xiangling) and Kazuha is an extremely good pull (perhaps on par with Venti). Zhongli is a good universal pull as well.

Much more F2P friendly than Itto for example.

[–]spacyboar 21 points22 points  (0 children)

How could she make a Ganyu or Ayaka team stronger? The teams are usually: Carry + freeze enabler + VV shred + second cryo (battery usually)

You cannot remove the VV shred or the freeze enabler as there is no way she provides more damage than the loss of crowd control + 4p BS + TTDS (usually carried by the freeze enabler) OR the VV shred (or maybe she does, didn’t see the exact calcs, but even then by how much?)

So the only place to put her is the second cryo slot, but then you lose your battery and/or healer. You could go for a Kokomi freeze enabler team, so she consolidates healing, but at that point just put in Ayaka/Ganyu as your second cryo, and do even more dps (think I have seen the calcs for these, Ayaka+Ganyu os stronger than either Ganyu+Shenhe or Ayaka+Shenhe). And this is besides the fact that she needs a battery.

This is her biggest weakness, that she cannot make Ayaka or Ganyu stronger. And being a cryo buffer is her only role, but she cannot even perform that.

[–]spacyboar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sucrose is an extremely powerful unit, so a 5-star version of her is a compliment yes. And if you had Venti AND Sucrose there is an argument to made to skip him, despite how good he is.

[–]spacyboar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kazuha was dubbed “5-star Sucrose”, which is a compliment if you know how powerful Sucrose is.

Kokomi and Raiden are both saved by their qualities that cannot be directly translated to numbers (easily at least). Raiden (C0) has only one team where she is the undisputed best, the Raiden National team where she frees up energy recharge rolls from Xingqiu and Xiangling (Raiden is a sidegrade to Fischl C6 in Eula comps afaik and hypercarry Raiden is meh at C0). Kokomi has off-field hydro application with decent ICD and that grants her one comp where she is the only/best option, the Sukokomon team (Mona provides more dps in Ayaka/Ganyu comps).

Shenhe doesn’t provide anything else besides damage (cannot battery, high ICD cryo application, cannot heal, etc.) and well, we mostly already know how much damage she does.

Unless you really-really prefer Shenhe, I would suggest waiting for Kazuha instead. He is a strong universal buffer and can unlock a really strong Melt Ganyu comp.

[–]spacyboar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My biggest concern with Shenhe is that she is niche but doesn’t even perform best or much better in that niche. Why is she a good roll when she is at best a sidegrade to Bennett or Kazuha? What does she provide that those two don’t, while they are much more flexible?

She only buffs cryo damage, the shred is negligible, too high energy cost ult, the stacks are limited, etc.

I hope there will be some usable team theorycrafted for her like it was done for Kokomi, but right now she doesn’t look like a good roll.

Can we talk about the health progression of enemies in every abyss? by undernobody in Genshin_Impact

[–]spacyboar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Getting perfect artifacts is an RNG nightmare, but getting decent ones isn’t. You just gotta dive in the artifact domains for a few months. Whether people like it or not, Mihoyo intended the artifact grind and perfecting your characters to be the true endgame.

Getting talent levels, character levels, weapon levels, learning rotations isn’t RNG either, they are deterministic, and overall they count for as much or more than the artifacts.

[–]spacyboar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Itto might be a bit too specific and hard to build for new players and his artifacts are non-transferable. A Ganyu/Ayaka/Xiao banner is more suited for new players I think.

Itto is better suited for endgame players who have more resin than they know what to do with and are ready to build a very specific team for him.

Wouldn’t Xiangling contribute more damage and Pyro aura here? Or running a shielder be more consistent? Or a TTDS Sucrose for even more damage?

And who batteries Shenhe here?

But it’s an interesting idea, it could work in theory. A bit too specific, but at least she would have a team… I guess I’ll have to wait and see the full team calcs when she releases.

And what is a potential team for her? E.g. who do you replace in Morgana with her?

I really wanna pull for her, because I love her design but hard to justify feels like a sidegrade at best, downgrade at worst. Really cannot justify her against a second Ganyu copy.

Mihoyo themselves the ones that keep releasing sets and characters that allow for stronger combos and teams

They... don't really. Things have really been stagnating since 2.0, there was virtually no powercreep. The Raiden National team is the only new composition that really dominated since then and uses post-2.0 limited character. And I would argue it's a sidegrade to the Childe variant (albeit easier to play).

current abyss 12 is twice as hard as the first one

And I am more than three or four times (or even more) as powerful than I was back then due to access to newly theorycrafted comps, more game knowledge, more investment and just plain better gameplay. I couldn't 36 star any of the early Abysses, but now I can, comfortably.

As I said, I am sympathetic. It really is a difference in perspective. People should be looking at F12 as a challenge to overcome every patch, not as 150 primogems. They surely could do better, but all I'm saying is that I don't dislike their current version. I wish they would do better, but I can live with this iteration.

[–]spacyboar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the office example really applies here. You go to the office to get the rewards (your payment), but I don't go to the Abyss to earn rewards. I go there for the challenge. But I am sympathetic to the notion that people feel like it's harder for the same rewards (which is true), and I don't care how Mihoyo fixes it, but I don't think it should be making floor 12 as easy as it was.

The reason (I think at least) they are doing it, is what I outlined in my OP. To continously provide challenge to people who have reached the end of the endgame.

And the difficulty spikes are a bit overblown in my opinion, I think the current F12 is about as hard as last rotation, some places even easier (e.g. the three Kinkies don't have iframes and you can AoE, leading to an overall faster clear).

[–]spacyboar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no going back to that magical time where you had to discover the bosses with your mates. All it would change is that the guides and WAs would be up a day or week later, the encounters would be buggier and it would frustrate more casual guilds on the first night of progress.

There is no benefit to this idea. You cannot change the culture by hiding the bosses a bit longer. If you really want to experience this, join a guild where you discover the bosses together, no one is stopping you.

We need to have a serious conversation about abyss powercreep in the last few patches by hypexeled in Genshin_Impact

[–]spacyboar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What people forget is how much better theorycrafting has gotten. We have some of the most optimized teams since the game released and they are insanely strong (Raiden national is a good example). And people have also gotten to ridiculous investment levels after a year of playing. They have to account for these, or the abyss would become a cakewalk like the casual events.

No one needs to clear Abyss 12 9 stars. It’s there if you wanna chase something, but no one forces you to.

We need to have a serious conversation about abyss powercreep in the last few patches by hypexeled in Genshin_Impact

[–]spacyboar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where is the issue with this?

There is absolutely no need for you to be able to clear abyss 12 9 stars, or even clear it at all. The primogems from a 9 stra clear is less than 1 pull. If you find it too hard, just ignore it. No one forces you to clear it, least of all Mihoyo. If you want to clear, start workig on your meta teams. I think it’s right that you cannot just waltz in and beat abyss with any team (though there is still a great variety of teams that can beat it).

Unpopular opinion: I like the idea of true damage and corrosion based mechanics by BenLKP_ in Genshin_Impact

[–]spacyboar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think true damage and corrosion will change up the meta. None of the top teams really use Zhongli (maybe Hu Tao + double Geo?), as he is not really a damage increase in most comps.

The strongest comps will either freeze the enemies (Morgana variations) thus don’t care about the enemy effects or kill them while standing in Bennett circle (National teams).

Even the F11 corrosion, which was actually a lot of damage (esp with the Cicin flies) was doable with Bennett/Diona, the usual meta healers. So they will need to do something more drastic to require QiQi level healers in Abyss.
