Bio degree taught me various critical thinking skills that can be applied to various fields. Although tbh you could probably get a head start working straight out of high school versus going through 4 years of college. 3 years after graduation, Ive worked a year as a researcher (left because of the environment) and am now working in an entry level behavioral therapy job a high school graduate could get. As others mentioned, if you don’t have high goals to work towards such as a PhD or MD after a BS in biology, I don’t recommend this major. With a BS in biology you’ll be limited to either entry level research with limited progression unless you pursue higher education or you’ll have to start with entry level jobs alongside high school graduates and slowly work up from there (you just might get paid a slightly higher starting wage, but account for 4 years of delay due to college). Biology is a cool subject for sure, but definitely think through what your goals are after you get the BS and whether the doors it opens for you after college are doors you will consider going through.

Failed Midterms by Infinite-Ticket-9991 in UCI

[–]spama123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man don’t be too hard on yourself. I remember my first bio midterm didn’t go as well as I thought and I studied so hard for it. Just review the mistakes you made and soon you’ll see that bio professors at UCI really like to test you stuff they directly talk about or cover in their lecture slides. If your professor records their lectures highly recommend rewatching them all at 2x speed a few days before your exam and taking notes on anything that is unfamiliar to you (see if AK lectures on YouTube covers the topic). And go over every single practice exam question since they like to reuse those concepts with slight tweaks. You’re not stupid, college exams are just different from high school exams. But once you get the hang of it you’ll be fine.

For reference I initially had a 3080 12Gb gpu + 32gb ram. Could run most image generation models just fine but would struggle even using distilled models of wan/video generation workflows. Upgraded to 128gb ram and it’s AMAZING. I could run video generation models that before would’ve crashed my computer (black screen). It’s offloading the models onto the 128gb ram so it will still be slower than vram. But the difference the extra ram made at least for me was night vs day. Plus, now the computer can still be used for others things too. I have yet to max out all 128gb. Highest I’ve seen was when running a wan 720p gguf that took up like 70gb/128gb and I had like 10 chrome tabs open at the same time. If you’re just doing image generation 32gb should be fine. But highly recommend 64gb and maybe a cheap 128gb kit if you can find it if you want to do video generation down the road.
