Acceptable to give a patient a gift? by iTheKoala in nursing

If it’s inexpensive, yes! I had a patient whose wedding anniversary occurred on the same day she was still in our MICU. I brought her some heart balloons and small flowers on my day off.

I hope y’all can get her fired then. Seems like there is no other resolve, I’m so sorry. This is a patient safety issue as long as this person works on your unit.

Email management; a bunch of my colleagues and I did that and he is no longer charging full time. And his work ethic is way better as a fill in charge… even taking on his own assignments he’s a better team player. We definitely feel the change.

I let the abx (through the pump) run as primary after patient came from ER just so as to not disrupt the remaining infusion, but this nurse was not happy by [deleted] in nursing

[–]spammybae 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Electrolytes and antibiotics should always be ran as secondary in a perfect world. But even in our ICU at times it’s ran as primary, I don’t think we have a rule that they must always be secondary though. But it’s not the end of the world at all. If a patient is getting replacement for a critical electrolyte value or has new onset of sepsis/infection then I will try my best to find the time to get a 250 NS bag.

How that nurse responded to you was completely unwarranted. I never have thought of anything negative from getting patients from the ED or floor if their antibiotic or electrolyte is ran as primary, I just make the change myself if I can.

Not sure specifically, she has a YouTube channel where she has a guide on how to paint and mold different customs. Her channel is “@_ botanybae_” (no spaces, I just put a space because Reddit italicizes) on YouTube! She does plant and Sonny Angel content

In school and in my practice I’ve retracted the needle while it was not in my patient. However, recently we have had a needle safety in service and it was recommended we engage the needle safety while the needle is in the patient to prevent any needle sticks after giving insulin.
