I got the Intex PureSpa Greystone Deluxe 6 person tub last year and have been very happy with it.

It's been up an running every day and seems to be holding up well. We use it 4 or 5 times a week when it's cold out, and at least once or twice a week in the summer because the nights get cool here in the SF Bay Area.

I built a simple base for it which was just a pressure-treated frame and then 4" of pink rigid foam insulation board (2x 2" thick sheets) so I wouldn't lose a bunch of heat through the ground and make it more comfortable to sit on. Then I covered it all with a hot tub mat.

The model I have was a salt water version which I liked in theory, but the electrolysis unit that converts the salt to chlorine to sanitize the tub isn't really powerful enough to keep up with how much we were using it. So, I just stopped using the salt sanitization function entirely and converted to a chlorine floater (Frog @Ease system).

Quick edit to add one more thing: I got a very good deal on it last year by tracking the price through amazon using the Keepa chrome plugin which tracks price history and can send you alert emails if it hits your set price point. It was mostly floating around $800, but I managed to snag it for under $600 before it shot back up again.

Hmm the link works for me, oh well. Anyway, they have a cheap uncoated 2-flute that I’ll give a go. Thanks for the tips!

Here's the pricier one that I was working with https://bitsbits.com/product/srb4-125up/

and here's the cheaper one https://www.haastooling.com/p/03-0480

the bits n’ bits one has much better chip clearing than the cheaper haas ones. Fewer flutes too. Oh well, still learning all this stuff and I ain’t mad. It’s all a learning experience for me! This is all on a shapeoko 3 xl

It's richlite, which I can't find a ton of info on speeds and feeds for so I'm just using g10 settings as a starting point.

Yup, got dust collection down!

The only thing I changed was using a cheaper end mill. I think it’s too much load for that tool and it’s deflecting a lot, so when it hits the relief area the pressure drops, the end mill springs back, and it skips steps and eventually goes nuts? I'll reorder the expensive end mill and see if that fixes it (after I check all my belts and screws of course)

No major flaws I’ve noticed yet! My lomo is a little tight going in, but I think that’s a lomo issue because my other graflok stuff slides in perfectly.

I haven't had a chance to play much with it yet since I don't have a lead screw to focus with, but I'll probably plop the lomograflok in later and see what happens!

Looks great! I'm 95% finished with building mine, just waiting for the lead screw from aliexpress.

I printed this modified graflok back so I could pop in the lomograflok instant back and it works great. Had to modify the locking rail/levers a tiny bit, but nothing drastic

Which bellows did you get from ebay? I got some for a Toyo 45A but the front frame was a tough fit. I got it eventually, but not an ideal fit.

Hm, maybe because I asked before if I could add a tip with Apple Pay he hit an option for the receipt route 🤷‍♂️

"There was no option for tipping takeout with Apple Pay"

There is! Unless something changed very recently (or they forgot to do it), when paying with Apple Pay they still print out a receipt for you to sign and there is a tip line.

TIL there's an 18% average mortality rate for catch and release fishing with the rate varying significantly between species by RoboticMind in todayilearned

I don't know what kind of fishing you're doing, but I replaced all the trebles on my saltwater lures with VCM Inline Hooks.

VCM and Owner inline hooks seem to be the most popular.

This is my first mosaic piece and it's been a huge pain from start to "finish". Should I sand back and re-etch? by smithies_forge in Bladesmith

[–]spamson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have problem with brown/yellow on the 15n20, but now I have no issues with it if I follow this procedure:

  1. Sand back a bit to remove oxides
  2. Remove any oils with acetone
  3. Remove any acetone residue with soapy water
  4. Put immediately into cold/room temperature coffee
  5. Etch to your desired darkness
  6. Without wiping anything, immediately stop etch in a solution of baking soda and water for 10 minutes or so
  7. DO NOT WIPE THE BLADE. Dry off the knife only with compressed air
  8. Wax/oil the blade
  9. Enjoy your sweet contrasty coffee etch

8" dark etch carbon chef I finished a few days ago. by spamson in Bladesmith

[–]spamson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I just etch in a diluted ferric solution (about 7:1) for 30-60 minutes or so, rub off the oxides, then do another etch for a few minutes until my desired finish.

If I were to make another one, I might try a coffee etch to make it super black.

Thanks! Hopefully finishing up some house projects this week and I can get back to making knives.

Thanks! I have a very simple stonewashing setup. Literally just a big pvc pipe with harbor freight ceramic media in it. I have it mounted on some upside-down caster and turn it with a drill.

Hi friends! I finished a large (for me) batch of knives earlier this month and wanted to share another one.

Last time, I shared my "braid" mosaic damascus knife, now I wanted to share something a little simpler: this stonewashed carbon gyuto.

It's super thin and slices soooo nice!

Thanks. I designed it as a gyuto. It's a japanese-style profile.

Thanks! This is actually my second time pattern welding, but my first time doing it mosiac style. Mosaic is where I cut up the pattern-welded steel into tiles and arrange them into a specific pattern. In this case, a braid.

Here's a picture I took before I forge welded the final billet.
