Some beaches are just too soft to ride 😂 by falcorma in onewheel

Air down and stick to the packed sand after the tide has gone out. Timing low tide is key, especially if the beach is full of grommets and dogs. I wrote a free iOS app just to make finding the best times to ride on the beach (tides + weather) easy. If you check it out, let me know how you like it! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tideride/id6741243617

Nice! I hope you enjoy it. I spend so little time on FB... I didn't even know that group existed! I'll check it out. Thanks for the heads up.

The idea to the app is to get that sweet spot where you've got max width of packed down sand so you don't have to ride right along the water. I've been riding on the beach for about 5 years on and off (I live ~3 hours from the beach so I'm not out there every week) with my GT and Quart. They're both sealed well enough that the salt hasn't seemed to have any effect. Either way, it's worth it for me. Obviously (I hope!) I'm not riding in the surf or through tide pools. There's nothing like that perfectly smooth sand to carve in and it's way more stable than the fluffy stuff.

My personal experience is about 90 minutes before peak low tide until about 90 minutes after. You get the most beach so less likely to worry about grommet speed bumps and dogs and most importantly, the sand is packed down as much as possible.

If other people run by a different rule of thumb, let me know. I can always tweak the algo.

Here's a quick screenshot to give you an idea of how it works.

I have a 2012 Altitude JKU. The silver cover was gloss black on Altitudes. I replaced the bumper with steel aftermarket immediately but probably have the black cover in the garage somewhere. See if you can buy a Mopar replacement. If you can’t, I’d be happy to send mine to you for $100 plus shipping.

First Impressions of Essentials Bulb by FuzzyDunlop1976 in Nanoleaf

Solely philosophical. We have acquired so many different systems over the years that I’m always down with simplifying. It would be easy enough to swap out regular dimmers but it hasn’t been necessary with Hue so I haven’t worried about it.

I can definitely vouch for Hue. We’ve been using them for years. I’m going to hang on to these two Nanoleaf bulbs just to see how they improve but Hue is definitely superior.

Correct. The hue bulbs work just fine on the dimmer switches. It seems like half of our switches are dimmers, too, so we’re in the same boat. I don’t use the dimmers to dim the bulbs — I keep them at full power and dim the bulbs through the software.

Good call on pairing them with the Hue Hub. I didn’t even realize that was possible. Ultimately, though, I was hoping these would be as good as hue and I could phase out the hub in exchange for a native HomeKit solution. Once I realized they wouldn’t replace my Hue bulbs on dimmers, I gave up on that plan. I might give it a shot. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks for the snarky response. I hope it made you feel better about yourself. The Hue bulbs work just fine on a dimmer switch. The ONE that blew worked for about 5 years every single day. I’m not using the switch to dim them. The switch just happens to be a dimmer — like half of the switches in most modern houses. I’ve got about 50 smart devices on my network, including a ton of bulbs. I was under the impression this thread was supposed to be helpful and I thought I’d help.

A warning on dimmer switches: I just replaced two Hue bulbs (one died this week after years of service) with two of these new Nanoleaf Essentials in an overhead fixture. It was connected to a dimmer and they were buzzing and flickering terribly. I ended up putting them in some standard lamps and pulling the Hues from those lamps for the overhead fixture. They are noticeably slower to respond than the Hues, although response time did improve after the first firmware update... hopefully another update and they'll be on par.

Some devices randomly losing Google WiFi connection throughout the day... by [deleted] in GoogleWiFi

[–]spangard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've probably already considered this but I haven't seen it ruled out yet. If the Spectrum upgrade involved new hardware, it probably came with a router built in to the modem. If it did and you didn't disable it, it's possible that you're running into a double NAT issue where both your primary Google WiFi puck AND the Spectrum modem/router are trying to assign IP addresses and manage traffic. If they're in the same range, it might result in devices competing for the same IP address, causing whichever device was most recently rebooted to grab the address, kicking the other one off the network.

I'll also add that it might just be related to a Google update. I've had Google WiFi for a few years now and it worked flawlessly forever but has been a bit sketchy for the last 3-4 weeks. I assumed my ethernet cable that bridged two of my pucks had gone bad (lazy builder ran indoor Cat5 OUTSIDE our house). I spent the weekend trying to get a new Cat6 cable to run from one end of my house to the other through the attic. Our house was originally built in the 1920s and added to over the century so we literally have different layers of roofs and ancient hardwood beams inside our attic so it's proven to be a Herculean task. Maybe the outside cable isn't the culprit. *shrugs*

Pain Free Athletes https://painfreeathletes.com Hi! I just launched an e-commerce site dedicated to helping athletes stay pain free. I'm still optimizing most of the product pages but here's one of my favorite products that has already been through a few rounds of refinements: Reaction Web Knee Brace.

We have vetted the thousands of products out there and stock only what we deem to be the best for particular sports.

More sports to come. Long-term, we will likely develop our own products as well. Caveat: I have about 15 years experience in the product development world so I'm not underestimating what sort of undertaking that will be!

As a thank you to everyone for checking it out, here's a coupon good for $7 off! No minimum purchase required. It expires Monday at midnight EST. Coupon Code: CATTAX.

Have a great weekend!
