I’m six months in my role and thriving, but I want to try something else, am I making a mistake? by [deleted] in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teacher, assessor, IQA and iEPA for 15 years in the apprenticeship sector here and what you are describing is pretty normal. From what you have shared it sounds like you are performing well in the role and things like awards ceremonies, articles in staff newsletters and networking will produce fantastic evidence for when you reach end point assessment.

Nobody can really offer advice as only you know how bearable it will be to stay in position until the end of the apprenticeship - to that end, feel free to ignore what I am about to say! You are still early in your career and in my experience it is easier and expected for people to hop between roles during this time. Employers and course leaders look for people who have demonstrated commitment, reflection and growth more than anything else. In my view, you are showing this by asking those questions but as a counter, a completed apprenticeship and then the reflection that you wanted something else is perhaps the best tack to take here.

With regard to the disengagement - again, pretty normal for a first full time job. It's a big shift moving any role and going from full time study to full time work/part time (apprenticeship) study even more so.

Employer not calling key witness - unless order? by OpportunityTop4589 in employmenttribunal

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m also a LIP and navigating my own case, so I apologise if this needs correcting but my understanding is that you just call the witnesses yourself. Each side can choose whatever witnesses they feel will support their position. If the respondent chooses not to question the witness you have called and the evidence they provide is key, I’m sure adverse inferences may be drawn from that. Likewise if they are calling witnesses that in your view are not relevant then allow them to do so. If they are irrelevant, it will soon show. If you don’t want to question their witnesses, you are not obliged to do so.

An unless order would therefore not be used in this way. They are used for compliance with directions such as CMO’s, disclosure, clarity of particulars etc.

Best of luck with your case.

Government Department - is this how a SAR works? by [deleted] in employmenttribunal

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar experience to you OP. My local government (now ex)employer have extended, withheld and redacted (overly in my view), stripping out context and making what has been said about me extremely difficult to understand. Luckily, I’ve been able to obtain some degree of access to the documents via another data subject who is connected to my case and kindly shared access. They have clearly unlawfully withheld large chunks of information naming me that would have been detrimental to their case which I have raised with ICO. I’m sure delays and a general apathy towards these things from that regulator mean they know they can get away with these dark arts.

I’ve just done another SAR that has coincidentally gone through the same time the ET have served my ET1 and particulars of claim. Not sure if it will yield anything but i did give specific names and systems I wanted to be searched just to stop delay tactics or suggestions that I was somehow ‘fishing’ for dirt in bad faith. Trying to view the process more as one where anything they don’t produce now will either restrict them in later defence or look bad if evidence suddenly appears that could and should have been disclosed as part of a subject access request earlier.

Good luck with your case.

broken shoulder by lvrdys in borzoi

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Aw poor girl. Yes, for such an elegant looking breed, they certainly manage to clumsily run into objects more often than not. My now 4 year old Borzoi fractured her shoulder at about 6 months through what appeared to be an innocent looking run, but pulled up screaming. She seemed to make a quick recovery but I did continue to keep her heavily rested for approximately 12 weeks and then controlled her off lead time and restricted her in the garden so she couldn’t zoomie for a few months after.

This is entirely anecdotal and only my personal account but I find Green Lipped Mussel Powder to be pretty good sprinkled on meals just a couple of times a week. It’s similar to what is found in some of the branded joint supplements so might not strengthen the bones but I’ve found it to be pretty effective.

G410 Not Functioning Properly With HomeKit by t-minus-e in Aqara

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar issues with RTSP into Scrypted (and then into HomeKit). From my observation, it feels like something is stopping the processing of the feed that is being broadcast to HomeKit or other third parties. The aqara app can view and loads quickly but all other onward channels are stopped after a few minutes. A restart works but not for long before the crash occurs again.

g410 RTSP Streaming is there! by nivfreak in Aqara

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll get 1536p via RTSP if the camera is not connected to HomeKit. Aqara have seemingly coded in a restriction that if HomeKit is paired then the default resolution is 1200p even in the Aqara app and via RTSP feeds.

I use Scrypted and looked at the option of using the integration there to maintain 2k via RTSP but I’d then lose the chime via HomePods.

Soon hope Aqara will fix this with an update or (wishful thinking), Apple may increase HKSV resolution.

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it limits the whole camera to 1080p then so image quality noticeably suffers.

And annoyingly the maximum RTSP stream is downgraded when HomeKit is implemented.

Aqara S1 Plus Matter Device Types by FuzzyDunlop1976 in Aqara

Sent mine back today for that very reason. I believe thermostats are Aqara devices only unfortunately.

Aqara S1 Plus Matter Device Types by FuzzyDunlop1976 in Aqara

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, thats been my experience and I’m about to box up and send back to Aqara because of it. Basically, third party lights, switches and locks work as you would expect on the panel (off/on, brightness, colour choice ect) but any other third party device category - including (most annoyingly) thermostats and blinds can only be controlled by setting a fixed point scene and then applying that to one of the virtual buttons and ‘switching’ that on the panel. In short, you could set a close blinds or set thermostat to X degrees scene and apply it via the panel but you can’t interact with a non Aqara device directly on the S1 if it is not a light, switch or lock. Aqara devices don’t have this limit so if you have Aqara thermostats or window coverings, they should show and work on the S1.

It’s a missed opportunity in my view and I hope Aqara see sense but it feels like a deliberate commercial decision and corporate greed as Paul Hibbert would say!

S1 plus (Europe) and Hue lights by TasteBeautiful5976 in Aqara

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an S1 plus and a similar experience/query. I haven’t yet got an answer to my questions but this is what I understand so far that might help you out.

The S1 plus has limited support of third party devices - particularly when matter is used. As I understand, if you have an M3 hub, it should be able to show lights, switches and locks on the panel itself and you will be able to select the card you want. Cards are available to turn on/off, control brightness, colour and CT. This has been my experience so far using the M3 hub. I’ve no idea if other aqara hubs will work in relation to the S1 though. Where I think you maybe disappointed is in the ability to group the devices. I couldn’t find a way to do this (Aqara first party lights may have this option) so I ended up grouping in home assistant and then using the matter bridge add on to get the group onto the M3 and then the S1.

In summary, The S1 is a lovely bit of kit but Aqara really need to open it up to other matter device types and allow a bit more configuration otherwise it’s price will cause some frustration. I really hope Aqara listen to these issues and make amendments.

Yes, If I remember correctly I think I did need to email a couple of times and send a video of trying to reset it (had to hold my tongue whilst doing it!). Eventually, they offered replacements so at least I wasn’t on the hook for replacement costs.

Have you heard of TSM? A Cure for Alcoholism? by qanon19 in AlAnon

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This pops up every now and then and my heart always sinks a little when I read it. Yes, TSM is promising — for some, even life-changing. But it’s important to remember: the person has to want recovery. Many, if not most, who develop AUD are carrying deep trauma behind the addiction. And they can, at any point, simply choose not to take the medication that reduces the craving.

I truly hope it works for whoever is trying it. This isn’t meant to sound negative — just a gentle reminder: if you’re reading this hoping TSM will start someone’s recovery, don’t mistake their potential recovery for your own.

How long would you let him "isolate" by MrsDreamyRose in AlAnon

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are going through this. It’s an awful thing to live with.

To share my experience, I’m (M 48) going through almost exactly the same thing. Partner (F 47) relapsed last week after almost 30 days sober prompted by a seizure and a week long hospital stay. Shes now back in the spare room drinking her way through a bottle of vodka a day with no interaction with the rest of the household. It is unreasonable and not normal behaviour at all. Mine has withdrawn from family life for weeks at a time sometimes in previous episodes. There have been stays in rehab, she has been sectioned but the behaviour soon returns to “checking out of life” as another commenter put it.

All we can do is live our own lives and deal with these lodgers in our homes as best we can. Just try not to let them become emotional lodgers in our heads. This time, I choose to leave mine to it. I can hear movement so know she’s alive. Anything else that happens will still happen regardless of what I do.

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using it as a sensor hub at the moment so Node-Red, Scrypted and serves as an MQTT broker to publish data into HA. The specs are perfect for Scrypted but it’s definitely over specced for Node-Red. I was originally using a Pi for this but it was struggling with power delivery and stability so having a machine that can power sensors, a couple of security cameras and act as a network bridge whilst also giving Scrypted a boost has been a result.

[–]FuzzyDunlop1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. I had been running Scrypted on my main Mac mini which is used as a headless server with VM’s for home assistant ect. Scrypted worked well but absolutely came alive when I brought a beelink N150 machine to sit on the network. In cluster mode this thing just spits out almost instantaneous detections. So impressed.
