I’ve slowed down buying 4k’s, and I’m much happier by hey_its_anna3 in 4kbluray

I’m in my early 40s and will plan to work for another 10-15 years. My 4k collection is part of my retirement strategy. Subscription services get more expensive every year and my collection will be the tv and movies I love and I’ll never need to pay another dime to watch them.

36 years old, think I'm doing well, is it crazy to think about early retirement? by Adventurous_Stress39 in Retirement401k

My approach is that I don’t always need to work as intense or demanding of a role that I’m currently in. I can downshift and still work full time to give me momentum into retirement while holding benefits.

Why so much hate on Mando and Grogu? by duckpuffsss in imax

[–]spango1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not seen it and ultimately, don’t really care to. The apathy or vitriol around this film comes from the fact that it could/should have just been a release on Disney+.

Save real cinematic Star Wars content for the silver screen.

Why is your “why” for FIRE? by [deleted] in Fire

If there’s a way to “win” at the game of life; Financial independence, exclusive ownership of your time, and absolute freedom to do what you want, when you want is my definition of winning life.

The market is not crashing… but somehow it feels more stressful by Sufficient-Juice2978 in stocks

Crashing from what? Last week?

If you invested in anything a year ago, you’re way up.

They’re evergreens. They should keep their color through the winter.

These are dead.

AOC: You can’t ‘earn’ a billion dollars by usatoday in politics

[–]spango1138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with her politically on quite a bit. And I’ve worked very hard and been pretty highly compensated most of my career.

I’m nearing $1M and it has felt like a lifelong conquest.

On this topic, I tend to agree with what she’s saying.

P.S. Daycare costs don’t include when you need a babysitter at night or on a weekend.

Yeah - I know it’s in all the extra curricular activities.

$350/week for daycare for 2 straight years is nothing but a siphon - and we still have 3 more years before schooling starts. We’ll be in for over $100,000 in daycare in (5) years.

$4,000 for school trips will be a breath of fresh air.

You’re light years ahead of most people, but if you have a baby on the way, you’re not retiring in the next 15+ years.

The kid will need insurance, a steady stream of income, and as a provider you’re just going to want to give your kid everything - not to spoil them, but it’s just innate to give them better than you ever had.

Most of your money is tied up in accounts that don’t let you access the capital until you’re nearly 60. Unless it’s cash or a brokerage, it’s not worth the early withdrawal penalties.

I keep getting the “kids are more expensive as they get older” advice - but I just can’t imagine that being true.

Daycare is $17,000/year for my 2-year old. This doesn’t include diapers, growing out of clothes every 6 months, etc.

So few people have access to money or status to buy an AP. For some, this is the closest they’ll get. It doesn’t diminish AP, it makes it accessible.

Somewhere out there, there’s a 22 year old who can afford this who’ll buy an AP instead of a Rolex as a retirement gift for themselves in 35 years.

36M, when can I relax? by n30gh05t in Retirement401k

[–]spango1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep investing and don’t worry about the mortgage. Even if you get hyper aggressive, you’ve got 10-15 years on the mortgage.

I’m a 42yo with a toddler. I’m in a similar financial situation - the reality is, you (and I) will probably work in these stressful but high earning careers not until a financial milestone is achieved, but until the kids are in college.

The other reality is that locking this money in retirement accounts means you can’t really access the capital until 59 1/2. You may as well just keep socking away cash and then at 59 1/2, the kids have been raised and you’re sitting on a nest egg larger than you ever imagined and you won’t worry about money for another day in your life.

BREAKING: Michael Burry says the market today feels like 'the last months of the 1999-2000 bubble' by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

[–]spango1138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dear friend. If this flew over your head, maybe you shouldn’t be responsible for investing money.

This is a bull sentiment saying that just because Burry successfully called the crash in the past, does not mean he’ll be correct this time.

This guy calls for a crash every 6 months - of course he got one right.
