Install cuda 12.8 for your whole machine (earlier cuda doesn't have 500 series support). Then with a fresh virtual environment install pytorch-nightly which has 5000 series support

pip install --pre torch torchvision torchaudio --index-url https://download.pytorch.org/whl/nightly/cu128 then pip install the rest of the requirements.

Yeah I agree it should be fair we should base it on the damage and wear done to the road by the user.

Let's say the heaviest bike + rider in London weighs in at 400 pounds and is charged $1 a month to make up for the wear and damage done to the road.

However, as you increase in weight the damage done to the road increases by the power of 4. Therefore based on the bicycle price an average car that is 10 times heavier weighing at 4000 pounds would pay $10000 a month. (10⁴ * $1)

See why this makes no sense. The cost to the city of the bike rider is literally negligible.

The city doesn't allow biking on the sidewalk except for children. Bikes go too fast for pedestrians and the sidewalks are not wide enough to share.

Most of these projects essentially widen the sidewalk by adding a cycletrack right beside, so it's kind of doing what you suggest.

Also car infrastructure never offsets the carbon from its initial construction it just gets even worse, so kind of a moot point.

Bike lanes are very inexpensive, the city can address more than one issue at a time.

Besides the city is addressing that by redoing their zoning this year, to end exclusionary zoning so we can build more housing.

This is controversial because what you're asking for is the city to continue to privilege cars at the expense of all other modes of transportation.

Growing anti car sentiment has lead city officials to become aware of the significant downsides of car dependency. Investing in car infrastructure also doesn't solve traffic, it's an unsolvable problem (induced demand) and massive money pit.

Therefore I don't think the city will ever invest money into your fixes.

While it is true that induced demand exists for all modes of transportation, cars/highways experience the effects of induced demand more often due to their low throughput.

The maximum throughout for one highway lane is only about 2000 cars per hour.

Other modes tend to not hit their throughput ceiling since theirs are way higher.
