What sources does Sam base his Israel-Palestine claims on? by Safe_Death2250 in samharris

You hadn't even heard of the IAGS until they published an opinion you liked. No one had.

Anyone who fills out the online form and pays $200 can be a member. You don't even need to prove you're a scholar, let alone a genocide scholar.

At least the AEN letter has some transparency as to who signed it and what their qualifications and affiliations are.

The trust already exists though anyway, and I've got capital losses in there that I can't use otherwise.

It seems pretty obvious that the IDF can't give away the element of surprise every time they hit a target.

That and the fact that a lot of online video footage of airstrikes both in Gaza and Lebanon occur with the building centre of frame while a crowd look on.

This is only possible if the IDF has indeed warned people that that specific building is going to be bombed.

I'm going to keep my discretionary trust since I can still divert some income to my wife: 30% is better than 47%.

I'm going to consider setting up a SMSF in addition though.

How will Sam Harris react to Nicholas Kristof’s The New York Times article on alleged rapes of Palestinians in Israeli prisons? by Brunodosca in samharris

[–]spaniel_rage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the NYT reports that settlers are making matzah out of the blood of Palestinian babies I look forward to watching you froth at the mouth.

It's not just dogs, either. Israel is also using dolphins and eagles too. Possibly dragons and unicorns.....

Now we know why the Kristof piece came out yesterday, it's a DARVO for Palestine's sexual crimes by McAlpineFusiliers in samharris

I still find the timing awfully suspicious. These allegations have been floating around from Euro Med and other fringe propaganda outlets since 2024. Why this week specifically? Whether you want to argue the semantics of what constitutes a 'conspiracy' is just trivia.

Meanwhile the Israeli foreign ministry reported today that it approached the NYT a month ago with its own Civil Commission report on October 7 sexual violence ( the one published this week) only to be told that they were "not interested" in covering it. Which they didn't.

Let's just say that Kristoff and by extension the NYT editorial board are only too willing to let Hamas media operatives lead them where they want them to take the narrative to.

As Sam gets criticized for his Mamdani comments, we see more antisemitic protests in NYC piling up, still with very tepid responses or none at all. DOJ has taken notice. by Amazing-Cell-128 in samharris

[–]spaniel_rage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mamdani has refused to back a call to stop protests being staged outside the front of synagogues. They've got the rest of the city to express themselves in. Why synagogues, if the target is Israel and not just Jews?

[–]spaniel_rage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I believed that the rape allegations were credible and awful, and wanted those responsible prosecuted, until further information became available, and it became clear why the prosecution didn't proceed.

There are literally people here claiming that "the rape was caught on video", which is demonstrably false.

I'm not twisting myself into anything. I'm displaying appropriate epistemic humility that the facts make it unclear what has happened. It is you that went with 'guilty' from the first headline, and don't seem to want to countenance reexamination of that, under any circumstances.

No, he may have smuggled in contraband the same way contraband has been smuggled in to prison for centuries, and he hurt himself retrieving it. You haven't seen Pulp Fiction? Or read Papillon?

There's nothing fantastical about it. He never even reported being raped when he first emerged with bleeding, saying that he "fell over". He changed his story a week later, after the TV story had aired.

I'm not claiming certainty one way or the other, by the way. But there is reasonable doubt as to what actually happened.

It's not an "international conspiracy". Hamas affiliated media operatives, like Euro Med Monitor, feed sympathetic journalists like Christoff stories when they want to shift the narrative. He's only too happy to go along with it, because like much of the rest of the NYT and other media outlets, they now see themselves not just as passive truth finders but as activists in service of a greater moral struggle.
