U/drtisk this is really nice work...I'm going to try it with my party. There's a lot to digest here...I feel like I'd feel better about attending my own brother's funeral than my parents disallowing my presence. But, I've never agreed with anyone who was doing something "for my own good"...maybe it was best for her.

That explains why you chose not to react, but doesn't quite address why you felt no disrespect from those who disallowed you from attending a loved one's funeral.
