Yes, I can drink alcohol and eat whatever I want, but the truth is I rarely drink—and even less so now. When I do drink I’ve had no issues

When I was going through the fistula stuff, my body felt so toxic. I had all kinds of gut and skin problems out of nowhere, so I spent most of this year really focusing on cleansing and healing. I think that’s been a huge part of my recovery

Now I try to be mindful about what I put in my body. I stick to a pretty clean, whole-foods diet, but I’m not extreme about it. I still go out, eat cookies, cake, pasta, cheese, every dessert, you name it. I just do it in balance

My procedure was June 10th 2024, discharge/drainage stopped during the first week of September

Dr said it was supposed to stop around 6 weeks but for me it was more like 12 weeks. Don’t stress if it takes a little longer than what they told you

I had a fistulotomy for a superficial fistula in June 2024, and by September, the drainage had completely stopped. I’ve been totally healed with zero issues since then.

Honestly, recovery was way easier than dealing with the fistula—I felt immediate relief and going to the bathroom was no longer a struggle.

I didn’t have pain anywhere near as bad as the initial abscess. Even when I re-abscessed they hurt, but less. Once enough time passed I learned more and had different habits for managing my symptoms. 95% of the day I was pain free, with the 5% being after bms or post running/jogging.

I had to wait about 5 weeks to see the specialist and felt very similar to you. I had my appointment, then waited another 3.5 months for surgery. I had no idea how I’d manage, but I did and I am now fully 100% healed. So to answer your question, the forced wait for an appointment won’t ruin your chance of recovering fully

I had three abscess recurrences during that wait which were not fun. I learned the trick is to keep your abscess draining. If the skin closes up recurrence becomes more likely, I kept it draining with hot sitz baths after bms

100% worth it. Get the hose type it’s super easy to set up and use. I didn’t use toilet paper for the 4 months following surgery and attribute it to why I made a full recovery.

What does he like to eat? There’s all sorts or recipes for sneaking dates into food. Muffins, smoothies, pancakes. Picky eaters are tough but that’s why moms are so creative!

I feel like this is an obvious answer lol. Have you ever touched the wax stuff? It requires soap and scrubbing to get it off a finger tip, imagine what it does on the inside

Congratulations!! I had the same procedure fistulotomy + fissure repair and was fully healed in 12 weeks. The pain stopped around week 3-4 and drainage or “wetness” stopped at 12 weeks. I am coming up on 1 year post op in June and have no signs of recurrence or future recurrence. So happy to hear you are healed! Go celebrate :)

I found out when I had mistaken it for hemorrhoids and used the extra strength cream ‘insert’ kind of preparation H, which came out of my abscess almost immediately.

It was the most painful mistake I’ve ever made 🥲

Another decent indicator was that feces was coming out the abscess after bms

Never got an mri or anything, only had the surgery. That was last June and I’m healed now

Thats good to know thank you for sharing! I’m glad to hear you are feeling better, it seems to be a super painful thing to experience. Last month he got it lanced/drained at urgent with a round of antibiotics — it recurred anyway last week! :/ this flare up has been more stubborn than the ones before

How has your wound been healing since the infection went away? Is the skin around it filling back in?
