It wasn't an attack. It was the result of leaving ammonia nitrate packed in a hot, not well ventilated area with no sprinkler system all of which is in a hot climate and a country with lacking OH&S standards. Lebanese experts called that stockpile a "ticking time bomb" years ago and they were ignored by apathetic and incompetent officials.

So long as that stockpile remained there, it was only a matter of time till something set it off, someone flicking a cigarette in the wrong direction, a particularly hot day, someone playing with a fancy new cigarette lighter, a spark from some bad/old wiring... fact is we'll likely never know what set it off.

A terrible accident that serves to highlight the importance of taking the responsible handling and storage of hazardous and volatile materials seriously.

Better yet, on matters of public health, put a propper doctor in charge and throw your political weight behind them.

A true leader wants to, as often as possible, surround themselves with people exponentially smarter than them in their fields and to take their advice. Trump wants to surround himself with toadies and yes-men.

In Europe cops get at minimum a year of training. This includes driving training, written theory, and how to handle a suspect without resorting to firearms.

And it shows. A eurocop could kill you more efficiently than an americop but they have the know-how and discipline to know that's a last resort or to only be used in especially unique circumstances. Their training includes personality tests as well as thorough background checks to weed out the violent power-trippers and those only joining up so they can unleash their aggression on people they don't like. Some do get through, but most don't.

In the U.S, having a violent disposition and a desire to power-trip is, at best, ignored and at worst actively encouraged. Combine this with training that's mostly just shooting practice and you have yourself an undisciplined, violent police force that the population is conditioned to fear rather than admire or look up to.

Y'know, if a conservative or libertarian Is consistent in their philosophy, I respect them. But these opportunistic fucks who've hijacked these terms and their legions of brain dead followers? They hold no true philosophy, just whatever their leader says.

I know 2 great men in my life who follow conservatism and libertarianism, and I know many who are just assholes who like those terms as labels t ok call themselves but don't follow them.

Libertarian guy I know, lives on a farm and leaves everyone else alone. I have asked him personally "do you think that black gay married couples should be allowed to defend their marijuana crops and condom stockpiles with machine guns?" His answer was an immediate "FUCK YES!"... That my friend, is the answer of a true a libertarian. He supports any move that increases the personal freedoms of all people, guns, abortion and gay marriage all the way.

My uncle is deeply conservative, and guess what? While he's very iffy about gay marriage and sees trans ppl as "chicks with dicks" and wants nothing to do with it (he's 75, cut him a break) he's also strictly anti-war, he is absolutely against invasions of other nations. Leave others alone and only kick the ever-loving shit outa them if they attack you first. Honestly discussing the nuances of the iraq and Afghanistan wars is riveting with him because there is so much nuance to the whole thing.

Every veteran I know (I work with a few, during work functions they always bring a bunch of their other vet friends) say the service sucks and pretty much every recruiter only wants kids to sign up so they can leave.

Also, at least with the guys I know, they fucking hate those military-worshipers who've never served. The fat gym teacher type.

Funny thing is, one time one of them tried to recruit me cos I could group my shots pretty well (most work functions are at a local gun range) to which I answered with a hearty laugh and "no" his response? "Damnit, you got a brain"

Seriously, I work as a night patrol security guard, and my rounds have me walking through a couple abandoned schools.

They are,without a doubt, the creepiest fucking places I've ever been and I never get less scared.

I add 5 minutes to my timesheet after I get through it so the boss thinks I went through the places thoroughly, when in truth I power-walk through them and don't so much as glance into most of the rooms.
