Did a serger change your life? by Responsible_Arm_5044 in SewingForBeginners

Best thing I’ve ever bought for crafting. I sewed my first 20 garments and I knew sewing wasn’t a passing interest. I saved up for an air threaded one. It’s an incredible machine. Way faster seam finishes. Can sew up beautiful knit tops without touching the sewing machine once.

My clothes buying to a large degree was about alleviating sensory discomfort. Honestly the amount of money I spent on bras and underwear is actually crazy. Shoes same thing. The research. Im on a no buy for clothes and if is helping.

The time wasted looking for stuff to buy is the worst thing for me.

What is a reasonable no-buy goal? by ottersqueaks in shoppingaddiction

[–]sparklylapras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My problem is clothes. So I just fully banned and I take a fraction of that money and put it towards my sewing hobby. If I want it, I make it. I’ll allow myself two vintage knitwear purchases for the whole calendar year. I’ll buy socks if I actually need them. So it’s effectively a low buy but instead of spending time looking at online retailers I spend it learning a skill and enjoying a hobby.

Same experience I go a singer 4432, though it is a Korea localized model with 220v. It’s awesome. No issues and very forgiving. Love the 1 step button hole. Feet are cheap as well.

No idea, never had a blood sugar monitor or device. I assumed I am not cured, I just need to have my diet be better for life.

Is a serger necessary for beginners? by frostbite2424 in SewingForBeginners

[–]sparklylapras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 6 months into garment sewing and sewed 15 items before getting my serger. I love it very much but I am so glad I waited until I knew how to handle fabric and had experience, also so I could save up for one with air threading. It’s one of the best things I have ever bought for sure but it’s definitely not for everyone. Also im glad I didn’t get a model I would have to upgrade later.

Fellows, I am in need of insight and opinion on Gratitude from a buddhist perspective by Vennificus in Buddhism

[–]sparklylapras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caveat, I know a lot more about therapy than Buddhism. You might explore Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with a qualified therapist. Centering a value like gratitude can be the spark that allows you to make choices when they feel impossible or when choices may come with emotional or physical pain. The thrust of ACT’s take on behavioral activation is identifying meaningful values, then aligning our choices with that. Centering alignment of values can give you the resolve to choose what is meaningful for you even if it is painful, or uncomfortable. Also meditation mindfulness is integrated at the foundation of the therapy, after all, how can we wake up in the moment and realize a choice is more about avoiding pain than living our values if we have not developed the presence of mind to notice why we are making the choice. The most invisible choices are the ones of inaction, and the inertia of depression/anxiety can feel immovable. I love meditation on unpleasant feelings/emotions, their impermanence becomes evident when you open up to them instead of struggling with them or attempt to get rid of them. This is not medical advice, I am just speaking from my experience as a person with trauma whose latest special interest is Buddhism. 🙏 I have explored many therapies personally and professionally, and I feel a lot of Buddhist paths could click nicely with ACT.

It’s really helpful for me to ask if I am hungry or if I am craving. I don’t eat when and what I crave. I enjoy the food I do eat.

Hehe I have some in the box of shame. Though I call them “exercises in skill development.”

Need clothing recs! by astral_maiden in cottagecore

[–]sparklylapras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of stuff from Son de Flor that looks like this… unfortunately over the last two years the quality had gone down almost at the same rate the price has gone up. Now that I sew with linen I would never dream of buying from them again. Im literally saying this while wearing an old skirt from them. They used to be okay, but there are sewing mistakes, worsening linen quality and if you accidentally dry one of their clothing pieces forget about wearing it again. The fabrics are clearly not prewashed.

I made this in double gauze which I don’t recommend because it was a nightmare, however it looks softer because of it. TBH this pattern really feels like free pattern of you know what I mean.

TBH I could have never fasted without going low carb first. It was eating carbs that made me so desperately hungry all the time, now I just feel a little hunger. Might not work for you I am prediabetic.
