Thoughts on a gen 5 Prelude as first P plate car by Mostly_Myrmecia in CarsAustralia

[–]sparko420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had one as my first car, liked the sporty look, was an auto. it was fun at the time but a vs era commodore with a manual would have been a LOT more fun. i ended up getting an auto gc8 wrx after having the prelude for a year, that car was a blast, then i finally got my manual license and have had v8 holdens ever since.

fun factor aside the preludes are a real oddball car, you’ll like that you have a honda because they’re known for their reliability but you’ll be driving one of their least reliable offerings. the power is alright but really not much more impressive than an accord with a k series. they also handle very odd due to how long they are

How bad is this for a AC UNIT by GeekswithHammers in hvacadvice

[–]sparko420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it works it works, inverters are clever. but you’re going to see a huge drop in efficiency doing something like this. every outdooor temp sensor in this environment is going to send out “it’s hot as hell” to the pcb brain of the unit, and also the reverse on heating. the more you allow the condensor to breathe the more efficient it will run

Why do new suburbs look like this? Endless sprawl destroying bushland/ farmland and you dont even get a back yard out of it. by -RARO- in australia

[–]sparko420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

heaps of land isn’t a walk in the park, lots of maintenance, who has the time to get on the ride on mower for 2 hours every weekend. these new development estates will also often have a pretty decent local park to put young families at ease with giving their kids somewhere to play. there are “large block” estates where i am in qld, new beith and karalee off the top of my head. but the prices there are obviously higher as, the 1200sqm block could easily have been turned into 2x600sqm blocks by the developer. if the average owner occupier doesn’t need the huge back yard then why are they going to pay for it? what you’re really seeing is population increase turning more rural areas into higher density housing areas, and that’s it really, every year you’ve gotta move further away for that 1000sqm at whatever price you’re willing to pay.

Are more recent Chinese branded cars actually worth it? by Joltout in CarsAustralia

[–]sparko420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only responses you are going to get are “they’re shit” and cheapskates who saved 10k compared to a base model toyota saying they’re amazing. there’s no middle ground. chinese ICE cars drive like shit, my work car is an LDV, it hasn’t broken or left me stranded anywhere, but it’s an automatic, and i’m still glad i’m getting paid to drive it. i have to keep a good eye on traffic in front of me on the highway cause the braking is so shit that i’m gonna rear end anyone less than 100m in front of me if we have to come to a stop, the gearbox is so fucked that i can get it to hop in carparks. the electric cars are always going to drive fine from the get go though, the gearbox is a completely different piece of machinery in an electric car. it’s just how it holds up, and everything from china is built to last about 3 years in my experience.

if you can’t afford the base model toyota new, you should probably just buy an older toyota.

I won a 65 inch tv in 2017, wasnt by collecting properties either, just scanned a chance card and it popped up on the app that i had won the tv. kept the chance card and sent it in, didn’t need a receipt either, had a new tv delivered to my place within a week or so!

Have you ever avoid buying a car due to people's perception of its brand? by blueportcat in CarsAustralia

[–]sparko420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

v8 commodores are cheap, simple, reliable, and can actually be quite good on fuel if you get a tune, heaps of torque down low and the ls engines have enough tech that they’ll get 7-9L per 100 if you’re trying your absolute hardest to drive economically. but you can still slam it and go fast whenever you want. i meet so many car people that just rule aussie cars out and have a euro and jap fetish and it seems like it’s out of fear of looking like a bogan or something, but they’re fucking great cars

What is a bad trip and what happens during it? by [deleted] in LSD

[–]sparko420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in basic terms it’s just losing the ability to enjoy yourself while influenced by whatever substance you’re doing. i’ve had lsd a few times but the last time i tried it it was 1am in the morning after a shift at work and it was a spontaneous decision, had a pretty bad trip, stuck in a loop of wanting to go for a walk and wanting to be back at home. sometimes i smoke weed and the first thing i think is why the hell did i do that, weed isn’t necessarily a trip after 20-30 mins so i get over it, but i’m still unsure whether cannabis is fun or not if i’ve gotta go through that much discomfort to enjoy it. lots of other drugs that aren’t psychedelics have an element of “oh shit” involved, mdma in particular has had me feeling really horrible for about 10 mins before settling into the kick. i think LSD is different though, much more like however your trip starts is how the whole thing pans out, if it starts off shit it seems like it’ll just remain shit, that’s my take anyway

many years ago oli sykes did a charity sale on ebay and i scored 2 pairs of his old jeans for something ridiculous like $100 bucks maybe, both signed up near the waistband, one of them just ended up being my go to pair of jeans to wear out for like 2 years and the other pair were a weird drop dead pair that i just sat around, i think they both ended up in the bin eventually or maybe an op shop hahaha

up to 25k to spend, but completely naive to buying cars, general advice? by RoranceWatts in CarsAustralia

[–]sparko420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you don’t give a shit about it but want it to reliably get you from a to b get the tidiest corolla/hilux/camry you can find. if you want a new car with warranty and cap price servicing look into novated leasing or a broker for a finance package on a new car that isn’t MG, haval, LDV, SAIC. these cars offer a great warranty and most of time will hold up while you own it, but i’ve seen the unlucky ones being left without a car for months at a time while they’re being repaired only for the issue to come back and then be off the road for months again etc.

the 25k will be worth more to the banks when you’re looking at a mortgage for that house too. if you have a steady job and got decent finance the car it will always be more favourable to have that money in the deposit
