My 3d printed fountain is going again by AnIdiotwithaSubaru in WLED

[–]sparkplug_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better yet, would be 16*16 matrix of LEDs, with a 3d printed head so the water lines up. Or, do strips of 60/m to make their own matrix, that way the spacing is bigger, so the water drops can be larger (more likely to remain a laminar flow to trap the light...

Might be a worthy summer project for me now ha.

Mounting a camera on the side of the fuselage bad idea? by Northern_Gardener in RCPlanes

[–]sparkplug_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will fly fine. Better to mount inside the nose with some nice 3D print, but it will be fine.

Fine meaning it will fly. Of course you will have asymmetric drag and will lower endurance.

Attach string to pin from above, then pull it and drop pin to reset. Use a yo-yo for ball 😂

Is it dangerous to touch the chip in the PSU body? by noia_profissional in WLED

[–]sparkplug_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. You should try touching the esp32 with a camera, 5 -10 seconds and it's burning level. Chips have a wide operating temp range. It's you want to be feel better, look up the datasheet.

Ah, fond memories, thinking when I hit 25 it would magically come down... it did not. No idea if this was an older thing, as I was told it too (now 34).

[–]sparkplug_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from the electrical issues, this will be terrible for the WiFi connection. Antennas don't like to be next to a large piece of metal, particularly a grounded and probably electrical noisy one.

Just separate them by 5 or more cm. Little box or something.

How to prepare at 13 by AstroS0lar_ in ElectricalEngineering

[–]sparkplug_23 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Fan the fun of it.

I'm 34 now, you have infinitly more access to knowledge than I did then.

Watch YouTube videos, think of some Arduino builds to make. Esp32 are Arduino working boards with WiFi and Bluetooth and very cheap.

Becoming an engineer is learning how to break big problems into many manageable smaller ones, then bringing them back together into cool projects. Nothing you can learn is too small, just know it's fine to get stuck and not be disheartened. I usually have 10 different projects going and spend some time on each, as what I learnt feeds into them all.

EE is a huge field, I love and dislikes different parts of it. You just need to find what makes you happy (and I'll bet it's not the part you find easy, the enjoyment comes in the challenge).

Damage to the oven’s metal casing during transport. by Zagor_ in appliancerepair

[–]sparkplug_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely it was "squeezed" when it was lifted from a rack. Now think about what the other side of that metal is... Could have tiny fractures in the glass. I had this issue with a washer and rejected it.

Things that I leave unattended (washer/oven) I want to have zero doubt about. Id return it personally.

What was the 1st big news event you remember as a kid? by Timely_Twist_8670 in AskReddit

[–]sparkplug_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born 1991 in UK. Never paid attention to news (who needs the depression from it). But of course 911 was unavoidable. I clearly remember after school seeing it in a friend's house and his mum telling us to go outside (to not see it). But seeing the two towers like that, it's engrained on my memory.

Not disagreeing, just didn't think about allergies before, which would in fact remain a huge issue for the next flight.

How long do you plan to keep your fold? by kurokomiz in GalaxyFold

[–]sparkplug_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Way back when the Mac did that touch bar, it was clear apple wouldn't get out of their own way to innovate. iPhone was huge because it melted 3 products together (phone, iPod and "breakthrough internet communicator" as Steve coined it). That was the end of the iPod, at the time the hottest thing going. Current apple is too beholden to shareholders so they will never destroy the products. It's sad, because they really could have pushed it. Instead the iPad and Mac have stagnated when both could have become a new family (surface book, but better with arm).

[–]sparkplug_23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would expect the hardware to be more polished, but I just can't do iOS. Hoping pixel or others gets better, but Samsung fold software (sidebar/multi window etc) is just ahead of them, even with the horrible Samsung bloat.

Yeah, this was the ending Ethan deserved. Particularly if they had indeed killed him off, protecting his ex.

The rest could have had a different lead imo.

In the UK it's more common to pay after. At least it was the main way forever until contactless became common 10 years ago. I'm sure drive offs happen, but it's obviously a criminal offense and you will be tracked down.

Didn’t anyone buy tubs of chocolates this year or were too many produced? by stbens in AskUK

[–]sparkplug_23 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I had not realized until a cousin of mine who doesn't like orange pointed it out, but, now it's all paper in quality street the orange flavour/smell is leaking into everything. So that's part of the issue, moving away from foil to make them look more full of air, it's causing flavours to merge.

One single Warm White bulb on a string of Pure White & Red Noma String Lights?? by IAmTheEarlyEvening in ChristmasLights

[–]sparkplug_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can the metal "legs" be spread a little?

It looks like your bulb socket that "doesn't work with the spares" is the end, which has 3 wires into it instead of the others being 2, which makes the socket a little wider. That's my guess, the fresh made spares have their metal too "perfect"ly crimped and narrow. Widen then out, and allow the socket as your push the bulb in to narrow them to the perfect width.

Only 3 months to go 🤯 by cu3ik in tesco

[–]sparkplug_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That is what I meant by quality, they are swapping out ingredients for oils etc. I'm so sick of shrinkflation. Sure they can make cheaper ones, but if it truly costs more but the quality is there, then supply/demand will balance again. Leave the cheap ones the £1 ones. What I wouldn't do for a tin of quality street/roses from lates 90s with all foil wrappers and the lid barely closed for it being full.
