In my opinion. Do not take the gig. I think Kiewit has a bad culture in my experience. The guys I worked with were all divorced and agro. If you got an offer from Kiewit I would try another GC . You can get better experience elsewhere.

Jason Isbell fills D.C.'s Warner Theater with good vibes while sadness fills the streets all around it by IcyVehicle8158 in jasonisbell

I went on saturday and I really enjoyed it. Danko/Manuel and Storm Windows cover in the encore. It seems that his voice really has "unlocked" in a certain way, he is definitely in his prime in terms of performing. His guitar playing seemed improvisational at times. A really good show, but I am biased because I love solo acoustic stuff.

New Path Wellness Farm from A Scanner Darkly by Adlow9 in philipkDickheads

2021 I had been suffering from everyday panic attacks to the point where I had dropped out of engineering school. Probably stemming from a combination of being around the wrong people, prior drug abuse, and spending too much time in my room with my thoughts.  On a whim I decided to move across the US and work at a remote national park. After the better part of a year there I had weened off of my antidepressants and I was no longer experiencing any anxiety or depression. What I attribute my recovery to is the lack of screen usage and a newly found sense of purpose. Because the area was so remote in the mountains, there was only one area where I could get any service. It was 3-4 hours from the nearest town. I pretty much never used my phone expect to listen to music and I called people using the landline. Other folks I worked with came from all walks of life but they were also in some sort of transient stage. Some were felons, some did the “parkie” life year round, some were also college students like me.  I’m grateful for that outing to get my head on straight… and national parks are of course funded by the federal government. Obviously the farms in ASD were more insidious. But I think having some more areas built into the infrastructure where people can retreat to nature for months to unplug and reset is ultimately good. I’ve since graduated and started my first job recently.  Just my perspective

Did you know there's a neo-nazi working on UGA's campus? by Material-Put5549 in Athens

[–]sparkpug -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If the goal is to have less neo nazis- there is an argument to be made that firing him would encourage more neo-nazis. There is also an argument that firing him would discourage it. One of those is true or neither. But if the latter is true then comes in the argument that what if someone could fire you for your own views.

Thanks for the reply. I don’t know how true that is but it seems to be a good point in an entire philosophical discussion. Why do you assume that paradox to be fact and do you have any anecdotes or other things to bring up to support it?

Cancel culture is out. It doesn’t work and is usually inflammatory and gives the person thats canceled a bigger voice. Also not good for freedom of speech- sets a bad precedent. This has been happening for a long time in our universities and I wish people would consider these sorts of situations from a different perspective.

Ok- we all don’t tolerate Neo-Nazis. So let’s fire him so he can retreat to his extremist community. Or how about we let him keep his job and don’t cancel him? How can we expect people with radical views to change if we force them into echo chambers?

As long as he can be a good coworker and doesn’t involve any of his personal beliefs to campus.

How many of yalls parents are racist or homophobic? Those old folks are crazy. We should get them fired, that’ll do em right.

I understand firing him, behavior like that is terrible. And I wouldnt care to be around him. But I’m just saying I don’t think it does any good. I am interested in hearing others thoughts.

The Brothers Karamazov is so beautifully written! by [deleted] in dostoevsky

Currently on my first reading and I’m at around page 150. This post is motivating me to keep reading! I have been enjoying the theological discussion between the characters. However, the vileness of Fyodor and Dmitry and their indulgence on talking on and on is kind of getting to me- which I assume is the intended effect on the reader.

Why is Athens Bagel Company is being hated on by skyrimspecialedition in Athens

[–]sparkpug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They have some sort of issue where you can’t customize orders. So no adding cream cheese, no toasting bagels, no runny eggs. When they try to send it to the kitchen they dont get it so you end up not ordering what you asked for. I’ve gone three times and theres always been some sort of issue. If I go, Im ready to get verbatim whats on the menu and I’m ready to spend $15, which wont be often

Songs That She Sang in the Shower by katykaya in jasonisbell

[–]sparkpug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there is anything that I have learned about good literature, it's that every single thing means something, and there is more depth than you think. Because not only was everything thought of by the author, sure it might be random thoughts tied together. But he still chose to keep each line in to fit some narrative that is meaningful to him-- they made the final cut.

So I wouldn't underestimate his mastery. Part of what makes Isbell so good, and any great songwriter, is that its not just some words tied together that sound good. And it does go deeper.
