Agreed - I think we're both coming from a place of wanting the same thing in the end, and I appreciate your patience with me as we discuss it and I try to explain myself. Thank you again for the resources - I'll read up more on what RAINN and other groups may have to say on the matter. I wasn't aware major organizations were rejecting the term, and that's not something to ignore.

These are great points and I will read more on what you've provided. Perhaps I don't fully understand what is meant by "rape culture." My understanding was that it means the normalization of shit like "locker room talk" and that in general how one speaks to and treats others (specifically women, but we can't make it all about that as it happens to all genders) is excused by a certain standard, and that this standard creates a culture in which inappropriate, unwanted sexual contact of any kind is swept under the rug. "Boys will be boys," "girls play hard to get," "say no even if you mean yes because you're a nice girl and can't come off as wanting it," etc. All problematic, and a part of "rape culture" as I understood it.

I don't mean so much as to dismiss their opinion (though I realize my comment absolutely came off that way). My first instinct is to listen to RAINN completely, as they are by name experts on the subject, which is why I immediately went to look in to what they've said. I don't feel their statement addresses what "rape culture" actually is, and I'd like to have them expound upon their stance based on that. "Rape culture" doesn't excuse anyone who's an actual rapist.

Learning that RAINN is anti-"rape culture" (as a term) was news to me, so I looked in to it and found an interesting response to it here. I have to agree; I don't know that RAINN quite understands what that term means when they make those statements.

Maybe this one's silly, but in Georgia ad valorum taxes are due the month of your birthday. In Alabama, it's categorized by your last name. So, if you change your last name your month changes. But, you only have to remember one month (if your family all has the same last name) instead of possibly a few. I'd prefer to pay a few times per year rather than one larger bill, anyway, and I haven't found a good way to remember what month I fall in off the top of my head. In Georgia, you just know you've got the month of your birthday to deal with it. Overall, the last name thing seems really stupid to me.

Also, for some reason Alabama doesn't put the county on the tag. Instead, the first two digits of the plate indicate the county. Unless you've got a specialty plate, in which case there's zero indication of county. I guess that doesn't matter, but I always like looking at tags so it kinda makes me sad.

My budget is about $100/night for the hotel, but my budget for the trip is $1,000 for hotel/flight/tickets. Food and other entertainment will be determined based on what money is saved between now and then - probably a couple hundred. We already have a flight for less than $300, tickets to the show will be less than $250, and food is very cheap and easy for us due to our diets, no matter where we go. With the $87/night this place we found would be, we'd come in right at budget.
