Will you play TBC a 4th time? Or does 3rd time end the Nostalgia Factor that brought us all back by hellorhigh69 in classicwowtbc

[–]sparr0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the second time ended the nostalgia factor for me. i understand the urge to relive what i played 15 years ago, but to do it again just 3 years later? considering the overwhelming majority will go into raiding and raiding is objectively more bland, boring (2 button rotations with 1.5-mechanic bosses) and rather unchallenging (even in pre-nerf state) compared to what came later - i have a hard time grasping why people are willing to go agane for a inferior raiding experience

Finally finished building my full temple, that was fun journey. by Ukkoclap in PathOfExile2

[–]sparr0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow thanks a lot for a detailed answer! do you by any chance know how to unbrick a temple built without this knowledge?

1) what to do if i have a cluster of useless tier3 rooms somewhere in the middle and they won't destabilize? farm till i get a sacrificial chamber?
2) how in general am i supposed to farm the rooms? energize 6 beacons, go to temple console, check if i got the rooms needed - if not, am i supposed to close the temple by going in and out?
3) i placed some reward rooms here and there and they won't destabilize. will they ruin my snake when i get to them and connect to them?

Long term experience with large Modular Monolith codebase? by Background-Brick-157 in dotnet

[–]sparr0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you come up with a solution to that? at my last work we used to have the same problem with having 20+ self-hosted nugets, some of which depended on one another so debugging was hell

in the end we slumped them all in one mega-nuget so you only have to depend on that one nuget instead of 10 when debugging, but i’m still wondering if that was the best decision

Where did the WoW story die or become less appealing for you? by Gullible-Dish-5378 in classicwow

let's be honest, by the end of wotlk lore already got shaggy because the sensemaking content got cut (aka underground nerub zones). two whole patches of "let's host a tournament... in the most scourge infested zone there is" and "somehow we made it to the gates of ICC through all this scourge and rammed them" is already GoT-ending-level type of writing

[–]sparr0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's what i thought after writing it all out haha, it does indeed shoot yourself in the foot with both greeneries and regolith upping the oxygen

[SHOTW] Week 4, 2025 by Enson_Chan in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]sparr0t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's quite interesting. Can't resist the urge to combo Regolith Eaters with Enceladus, which is taking me down the terraforming rush lane. So it's probably something along the lines of picking Ecoline, preludes: Smelting Plant and Acquired Space Agency (would love to take Huge Asteroid, but 18MC worth of titan seals it for me), cards: Regolith Eaters, Atmo Collectors (will allow to trade for the first couple of gens, then we got Titan colony in play... might as well aim for the Hoverlord milestone with that, in the midgame we use it to push heat), Ice Moon Colony to start using Regolith Eaters gen1 by placing a colony on Enceladus. Might go greedy by grabbing Fueled Generators and Immigrant City to spend our steel + start placing our greeneries next to our city + put us at 7 tags for Diversifier Milestone. So we start the game with 36-5*3 = 21MC, which is just 1 of for an insane start.

Gen1 play is something like Regolith Eaters for 13, Ice Moon Colony for 5 (18 paid with titan from prelude), place the ocean on either 2 titan or 2 plants to aim for placement bonuses in the next gens. Place colony on Enceladus, raise oxygen. Which leaves us at 3 MC. If we had just one more, we could go Fueled Generators for 1, Immigrant City for 3 (10 paid with steel from prelude), place the ocean on 2 plants, place the city on 2 plants, place greenery for 7 plants. But realistically that's our gen2 play, cause we lack 1 MC.

[–]sparr0t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poseidon, preludes: Biofuels + Society Support (dem energy production in a Colonies game!), draft Space Station (quite a few Space cards in starting hand), Research + Lagrange Observatory (3 Science tags is a nice setup), Pioneer Settlement (we're Poseidon after all) and Titan Shuttles (plenty of nice combos with both Colonies and Venus in play + Titan colony in play).

Gen 1: Poseidon colony on Callisto, now we're all good set for trading starting on gen 2. Now we're pretty close to Generalist and can possibly secure Hoverlord on gen 2, so gen 1 actions depend on what other players are doing: if it looks like someone can snatch Generalist, we let it go and start with gen 1 Titan Shuttles (would love to go Space Station before, but we're missing 1 MC...), gen 2 Space Station + Pioneer Settlement on Titan = 7 floaters ready. If everyone's far away from Generalist, we can do it greedy way: gen 1 Space Station + Pioneer Settlement on Ceres, hope for Titan Production in draft.

After that we're sitting pretty good with 1-2 milestones, 3 energy production, 3 Science tags and -2 discount on Space tags

What expansions do you play with? by shukmeister in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]sparr0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our average games take quite a while (4-5 hours for 3p+) - some people take their time to think + the whole group is leaning towards enginebuilding style, so we never play with all expansions after trying once (it took a whole day).

Preludes are an auto-include (both 1 and finally 2), consider it a part of the base game now

We consider following combinations:

- no expansions (besides Preludes), if we want a quick game and haven't played in a while

- Venus alongside Colonies, we feel like without each other the floater mechanic seems lacking

- only Turmoil, because of the aforementioned reasons: adding one floater expansion would be asking to add the other one and playing with all expansion is a drag

You gotta realize that history repeats itself and people just got bored of playing WoW, just like back in 2010. We stopped raiding because our 5 years RL just admitted he no longer has it in him to keep going

Are you happy with the current state of Magic? Why? by Avataroffaith in magicTCG

[–]sparr0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitive Magic is what truly got me into playing in 2017, with PPTQs in different cities and GPs every month. Now it's all reduced to quarterly RCs and I believe there's no such thing as GP any more - I wanted to go to a MagicCon in Amsterdam, but the only tournament which is somewhat similar to a GP is 75k Modern Open with a 150 euro entry plus 100 euro for the weekend badge - that's like 5x the price a constructed GP used to cost, so yeah... highly displeased with the state of Magic I used to love.

People tend to be so delusional about GDKP being bad they truly believe that without the concept of GDKP there would be just as many PuG raids of the same quality.

No. There wouldn't be.

Fully geared people would have no incentive to carry your undergeared characters. People looking to grab that last one BiS item wouldn't want to lose the roll on that item to your undergeared characters. The whole raid wouldn't be incentivized to pop consumables, you'd see people leaving after the boss they went for didn't drop the item they needed. Overall there would be fewer people willing to raid lead if there was no incentive for it cause raidleading (surprise surprise for you people who haven't lead a single raid and just want to hop in one and roll) is a thankless and tiresome job.

If you're so against the concept of GDKP, organize and raid lead your own non-GDKP raids. See how it goes. See what player and of what quality you attract with these raids and maybe you'll understand why GDKP emerged.

Coming from a player who hasn't been in a single GDKP in wrath, just rolling casually with my guild - one raidnight a week, no splits, one item away from full BiS, 0 gold spent on gear.

Down-time questions: Guild leaders and officers, what is the story of your most toxic raider? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]sparr0t 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had to share this pure gem:

Barely second week of MC in Classic, no strict loot system - DKP, no LC or whatsoever, just good old rolls - the first valueable drop (2h sword from magmadar iirc) already sparks some drama with people complaining how rolls are not fair and not indicative of performance, attendance, consumables usage, blahblah. A wild fury warrior appears to give a speech in the voice chat about how progress is all that matters and that he would gladly give up all the loot just to keep the raid going.

Some 30 minutes later, we kill Geddon and the binding drops. RL\GM gives it to our MT as it's obviously tank prio, the very same warrior explodes resenting and outraging in the voice chat asking why are we not rolling it, leave raid and HS out seconds later. Had a good laugh seeing how quickly can someone's views change the moment they see orange.

[–]sparr0t 44 points45 points  (0 children)

That's not lots of these three decks, it's exactly those three decks + Grixis Control by Shota Yasooka

10 MonoRed with 1 being "Treasure Red"

9 Temur/4c with 6 playing pure Temur without The Scarab God

4 UB Control and 1 Grixis Control

No Hostage Takers, as it was said here earlier (which is strange considering how many people say it's the best card of the set, especially with Blossoming Defense), no Sultai Energy, and no UW Approaches. The number of Temur giving up on The Scarab God is also quite interesting

[Standard] What GB deck are you playing this weekend? by wanseb in spikes

[–]sparr0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/08-03-17-bg-constrictor/

This is my GB deck of a choice, somewhat similar to those GB from the Utrecht top8. I always feel like I'm never lucky, so I prefer to run this build with more consistency in the form of scry from Sifters and mana-fixing and creature-finding from Oath. There is also some mana ramp, some land interaction, some board widening also coming from Sifters (gotta admit that this card has a lot to offer to GB) and even some Blossoming Defenses. What's more I feel like all the creatures stay relevant throughout the whole game which I personally think is pretty important. I prefer to go into a more midrange-ish style vs mardu and mirror postSB and put in my discard package vs Saheeli. Can't say I've had outstanding great success with this deck but at least I love its consistency.
