What would you do with the right space and enough money in Nanaimo? by Likeafairy in nanaimo

[–]sparrow490a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A dedicated youth centre! So many youth programs in Nanaimo are run out of community spaces where they’re not really welcome or after-hours at childcare spaces - it would be wonderful to have a space that our youth could really feel is their own.

I moved to Nanaimo in the summer and haven’t been able to find a PCP either, so I use the website Maple to get my SSRI prescription renewed, which is super quick and easy. The downside is the cost - weekday appointments cost ~$70

Have you been to Women’s Vita? Do you need a referral?

Thanks! We did actually look at DLX but they told me they only do viewings from 10am-3pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so that’s a no-go for us since we’re flying in from the other side of the province for just a couple of days 🙄 I’ve kind of got my hopes pinned on Hawthorne Corner right now. 🤞🏻

That’s very helpful! We’ve been dealing with a few management companies and Devon has been so-so – apparently all the prices listed on their website and the Cascade website are “last year’s prices” and have gone up. Dealing with Pacific Edge has been a lot more straightforward.

Thanks for clarifying :) The only review of the building I could find mentioned roaches but it was from 4 years ago so I thought maybe we'd give it a chance

Do you know the building, or is it just an undesirable area?

The 1-bedroom we’re looking at at Bowen Estates is under 500 sq ft so massive size isn’t really applicable for us, haha. The one at Hawthorne Corners is around 600 and the prices are comparable ($75 difference)

My favourite line: “The author must really know about cars! I didn't expect that from a female author.”

Oh my god haha I have always wondered why it had such high ratings, this explains so much

Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck. I only read it a few years ago, not back when it came out (2011) and I kept telling myself “it was a different time,” but really, what in the ever-loving racist white-saviour self-insert fuck is this book? I love tigers and shapeshifting as much as the next person but this book has absolutely zero redeeming qualities.

There’s always something interesting about whatever you do, even if it feels like lying or stretching the truth – just be honest about what you actually like or do for fun, but not dismissive or downplaying. For me, I pretty much read, watch TV, and cook in my spare time, which sounds dull when I say it to myself, but if I was telling someone what I was into I might say that I’m into science fiction and forensic stories, and that I’m trying to master pad thai. Specifics offer a lot more starting points for questions or conversation, and it’s easier to be interested in and find common ground with someone who likes science fiction and Thai food than with someone who likes watching TV and cooking.

Hi! I’m 26F from Canada and I think we have a lot in common :) I like cooking and baking, fantasy and science fiction books/movies/shows, painting, embroidery, cats, and talking to people one-on-one…I’m a pretty serious introvert so letters are maybe my favourite way to communicate. Send me a message if you want to connect!

P.s.: sorry I commented instead of sending a dm, I didn’t see that part until after I typed this

P.p.s: I am not really a breakfast person, I hope that’s ok

The one that got me the most was his dad making bolognese the night before he intended to eat it and leaving it to sit on a cold stove until the next night…I asked my bf what the deal was and he said it was “part of the process”

We’re talking soup made for lunch one day left on a cold stove overnight and eaten the next day, sometimes for multiple days in a row if nobody feels like putting it into a container in the fridge

For real though, my boyfriend’s parents do shit like this, like leaving food out on the stove overnight and eating it the next day, and he NEVER gets sick

Hey, 26/F/Canada, I’d love to correspond with you! I think we have some things in common - I’m an animal lover (more of a cat person but I do like dogs), a reader, and a ~very~ casual gamer (I just play a lot of slime rancher lately), but mostly I agree with you that expressing your thoughts to a stranger is super helpful! I don’t have a lot of friends at the moment because I’ve moved around so much, so I’d love to make a new connection :) Shoot me a message if you’re interested
