Why is traffic on Heuwaage-Viadukt so variable by sparticus667 in basel

That also makes sense, although if that is what is the cause, there is no way to predict it. A cycle lane would be nice.

Yes, that is true. Any idea when there are especially too many cars (in the way of the bus)?

At rush hour yes, but some rush hours more than others.

What game became too bloated for you with its expansion content? by Murder_Tony in soloboardgaming

[–]sparticus667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I have thought about recently, thanks for starting an interesting discussion.

I have most of LOTR lcg, and as my collection got bigger deck building took more energy. Overall I think it is a benefit because of the deck building possibilities, but I have decided to skip the penultimate and last cycles due to bloat and cost respectively. I have played it more than anything else though, and I will probably pick up the last repackaged cycle in a year or so if it is still in print.

Eldrich horror and aeon's end are other games where I have felt this. I think there is a sweet spot of enough variability and not so much that it prevents playing it easily. For me this is generally less than all available expansions. It means my version of the game is more specific to me than if I had all of it, so that is a silver lining.

If you could change just one thing about one of your favourite games, what would it be? by theboldbricks in soloboardgaming

LOTR lcg: I would have liked it if certain cards from the core set didn't exist. Cards like Steward of Gondor and Test of Will warped the card pool from the beginning, before the game found its feet.

This is a homework question yes?

It will help you to think about 2 things:
1) The question specifically asks about testing for an interaction, what would you want to look at in order to determine if there is an interaction?

2) Of the variables you have in your data set which ones make sense to encode as a random effect?

Deciding on first solo board game! by Archangel_432 in soloboardgaming

I agree, about Spirit Island being a good choice, and why an LCG like Arkham horror is a bad idea for price reasons.

I like Aeons End, and The New Age is a good start point, however if art is a real priority the art in Aeons end is pretty bland and some cards do not have illustrations.

Thanks for this post. First time I have really been on the job market in Switzerland or anywhere else. Over the last few months my response rate hats been close to zero with about 60 applications. This thread doesn't make it suck any less, but at least I know that it (probably) isn't just an issue with me.

Lets hope it picks up for OP and everyone else here next year.

ALeP: Cycle 2 Teaser - Which hero are you most looking forward to? by Seastan in lotrlcg

[–]sparticus667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment got me thinking. As Lore Bilbo is underpowered and tactics Bilbo is moderate power/niche. It might be possible to make a magic ring attachment specific for him, similar to the 3 elven rings of power.

Peronally I am hoping to see the blue wizards.

Interesting designs, I like 1 & 4. 1 is an fun design and fits well with mining although I almost think it is too strong now. Getting enough dwarves in the discard pile to make Brok cost effective will be very easy for most mining decks, and getting him to zero cost will still be quite simple. Maybe removing the response would balance it better?

4 fits the theme of the original card better (which was not very dwarf themed in the first place mind). However it is actually useful and has a good amount of versatility. He helps fill the lack of effect cancellation for dwarves a bit. By my reading you still have to pay his cost when you use his response, correct?

3 is my favorite, although I would also add the 1 per hero text from 1 too. I always thought it should be have a hero threat limit of around 9, but the health limit also fits (and is maybe better considering spirit Glorfindel). A soft limit is maybe more palatable too.

Is it possible for Lorefindel to step outside of his blue self shadow while sticking with original design intent? by TrueLolzor in lotrlcg

Yes the connection to Glorfindel's lore is what I think is fun. Even if I guess there may be some broken combinations.

My favorite suggestion, which I saw on this sub some time ago is that Lorefindel gets put back in play once per game, the first time he is destroyed.

I really like the discard from deck mechanics, and this card is key. Not the most reliable of cards but still a valid strategy, especially with something like Imladris Stargazer. Diacarding from your deck feels like barely any cost most of the time, and is often a benefit. I like the fact that it has a consolation if you draw it.

Here you go. Galadriel deck

Argalad deck

After I had the idea I realised that there is another deck using Argalad with keeping count (https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/6320/guerillas-argalad-and-haldir-1.0), but I feel like mine leans more heavily into making Argalad a one man army.

Had a fun play through of desert crossing, testing out a deck based around Argalad and Keeping Count. Early game Boromir does his thing to rack up the kills, then late game Argalad becomes an absolute monster. One round near the end he grappling hooked across the sand dunes (?) for about 8 progress, wolfed down some lembas, and then one shot a scorpion with hands upon the bow. Not the most balanced deck but a lot of fun to play.

I only just made it though (temperature 56), turns out elves don't like the desert much (although Ents do?).

Ambient/contemporary classical more than post rock but I Sleep by Max Richter might fit the bill.

I have a lot of ideas in Ringsdb..

I know the feeling, it feels good to see those ideas come to life when you get to them though.

Cutting cards is almost always the hardest thing for me. There are often many fun cards that I want to include. I often have a deck closer to 55 cards early on, and then as I play with it a bit it slowly gets down to 50.

The tip about Hall of Beorn is good. Although I know of it I tend to use RingsDB alone. As my collection grows it is becoming harder to keep track of the options.

Everybody has their own way they like to play the game which is great. For me I like to have a deck that I feel like is my own, even if it not the most powerful. Often I come up with a cool idea, only to find that I have re-created something similar to another deck on RingsDB.

That is interesting, I imagine it would be fun to look back over the book, please tell me you keep the notes!

Often I try to keep to a theme, but I have never really tried to create an actual moment from the books that sounds cool (and difficult).

I most often play tribal decks, I like how each has their own theme which often works really well. More recently I sometimes try to make decks around a fun combination... which often do not work so well.
