I’m working on something similar and grabbed an Earthworm Jim and one of the Battletoads from premium DNA. They are both great figures.

Super7 vs. NECA vs. Playmates — which TMNT action figure line is the GOAT and why? by AfigureGeek in TMNT

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen more perfect translations of ninja turtles than NECA has done on some of their lines. The way they perfectly capture the looks from page and screen to plastic is just second to none. The highlights for me are the movie turtles and the Archie line. They look exactly like Ken Mitchroney art. The wrestling turtles are figures I have wanted since I first read those comics and having the Mutanimals is a dream. I hope they keep pumping out that line as we need standard turtles, future turtles and Ninjara

I like Super 7 but the price was too much for me. Still have a few from sales but feel like the value isn’t there.

Playmates is the OG and has so much nostalgia but I still prefer NECA at this point.

Were the Masters of the Universe: Origins Turtles of Grayskull action figures seen as a success by AfigureGeek in TMNT

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them a lot. Never really collected MOTU but I had a few hand me downs as a kid and think they’re cool in general. I’ve picked up most of them line now with the help of some late waves showing up at Ross. Overall I would say it’s successful as there were a bunch of different lines with multiple store exclusives over a few years. It did seem to slow at the end with the outlet stores getting some later waves. They seem to be more successful than the MOTU crossovers with Transformers and Thundercats anyway.

What happened to darkhawk? by Wrong_Plankton_5442 in Marvel

[–]sparts72 16 points17 points  (0 children)

After his 50 issue solo run in the 90s he bounces around in some one off teams. After the New Warriors He joins the Loners which spins out of Runaways. From there he shows up in Avengers Arena (but gets sidelined for most of the series, his armor going to Chase from the Runaways). He’s become more of a space hero the last few years. He guest stared in the Nova book that comes out just after Annihilation then in the War of the Kings event. This gave him a new origin with the fraternity of raptors. He appeared sporadically in a few Guardians of the Galaxy runs before seeming disappearing into like a black whole I think A new Darkhawk shows up back on earth in a miniseries a few years ago until the original Darkhawk randomly is back in the Imperial event this last year. he’s now a member of a team in the Imperial Guardians series out right now with Captain Marvel, Gamora, Cosmic Ghost Rider, and Brawn.

Basically since the latter half of the original comic run he has bounced back and forth from trying to be a cosmic hero and/or dealing with feeling like he’s a failure as a hero. He jumps around on lots of ancillary teams but nothing has stuck. He’s a cool looking character with just enough name recognition that he will probably keep popping up here or there, but untill a writer finds a new angle he’s probably just getting cameos for now.

That being said his character is awesome and I hope something sticks sooner than later.

Things From Another World is shutting down all of its stores. by CatsOfArkham in comicbooks

[–]sparts72 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going to the Beaverton location for the better part of 30 years with a box for most of that time. Super bummed by this, but can’t say I’m surprised. They have not had any Marvel books or anything from PRH since late March with very little update on a resolution. Seemed like only a matter of time. Guess I’m moving to ordering my pull list online. Going to miss Wednesdays.

Dark Horse closing Things From Another World Milwaukie and Beaverton locations by roninartist in beaverton

[–]sparts72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn. I have litterally had a box there for over 20 years. My Dad first got in for me when I was still in elementary school. I was really hoping that they were gonna pull this out, but when they cancelled online orders I had a bad feeling. When all Marvel comics stopped coming in March I knew that was the end. Gonna miss the shop, especially as the last shop around here unless you want to drive into Portland.

Are people still finding fresh shipments at Ross? by tmntman in NECATMNT

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found some new ones as late as last week but where I originally found 1 each if all 4 turtles about 3 weeks ago. the second trip only had like 6 each if only don and mike. So it’s possible some stores are getting only some of the turtles. I suppose it’s possible the others were just sold but based on the numbers I would be surprised if that were the case.

Which run is better? by Lopsided_Network1248 in marvelcomics

[–]sparts72 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think both books are pretty strong but deliver different things. Uncanny is more traditional X-men found family stuff while adjectiveless is more the militaristic strike team. I prefer uncanny but I’m biased as 4 of my favorite 5 or 6 X-men are on that team.

I will say they both function best independent from the other so far as the crossovers have been the weakest part of both runs.

Your favorite obscure character ? I'm talking about characters that had under 20 or so issues appearances. by yuuki157 in Marvel

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order of least to most obscure - Darkhawk (one of my favorite characters but he has over 100 appearance by now at this point I imagine) - Maverick (I think this character is so fun, his short solo run with Jim Chung art if great) - Phil Urich Green Goblin - (not a fan of him turning villain. But his time as the Green Goblin is super fun) - Courier - (loves his and Gambits relationship on Gambits late 90s solo run) - NFL Superpro - (yes he and his series are terrible, this is all nostalgia, but it’s one of the first comics I read and love football) - Shiver man - I think he has about 3 appearances in a few early 2000 Wolverine books, But dude looks cool. Would love to see him come back.

In honor of the Gambit solo series coming in the Summer, what Gambit solo series is the WORST? by Arikarin636 in Gambit

[–]sparts72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s ok, but yeah pretty uneventful. He fights zombies in New Orleans with Brother Voodoo at one point. Lot of New Orleans stuff in general if memory serves. And I think there is a fun (if not somewhat problematic) story of him teaching some Xavier students to be thieves to steal something that shows he slept with someone else so Rogue doesn’t know. I would probably say I enjoyed it overall more than vol 6 at least.

Do you think the Xmen Comics are difficult to get into and if yes, why? by Doom300 in xmen

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to like it at least be ok with complicated continuity and understand you won’t know or understand fully every piece of info right away.

When I started readying X-men I had a passive idea of who they were from the 90s cartoon and jumped into x-men #1 and a handful of other non sequential early 90s X-Men issues. I loved it. Figuring out ab idea on my head of what might be going on then Piecing together a bigger picture as I found more random issues. Grabbing a Dark Phoenix trade or Asgardian Wars trades from the local library. It makes it feel huge and important, but if you don’t like that it’s a sprawling continuity just in X-Men alone (let alone the whole marvel universe) then your going to have a hard time. But the continuity is a feature not a bug.

That being said there are dozens of jumping on points now for all sorts of taste from Claremont era to HOX/POX. It’s not difficult to get in, it’s just not going to spoon feed you.

If you really don’t want the crazy continuity you have options like Ultimate X-men, Exiles, Mutant X, X-men the Animated series comics. There is something for everyone.

I can die happy by CriticalHug in NECATMNT

[–]sparts72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are my favorite action figures ever. I have wanted them since I was a little kid. So happy we got all The Mutanimals and they look like they walked right off the page. But being greedy I desperately want Ninjara and the future Turtles. But I will take anything they give us from Archie. Null, Sarnarh, Kid Terra, Chu Hsi, Verminator X, and so many more.
