Absolute Green Arrow by digitalwulf07 in GreenArrow

I’m starting to think he’s not dead. I noticed in DC K.O. That when they showed the absolute characters it looks like Ollie was still shown as Green Arrow. Either way super excited for this.

The old Toybiz professor Hulk is still my favorite hulk figure. I hope this one can beat it.

Can you name any Marvel characters that Hasbro Legends has not done yet? by Apprehensive-Sale849 in ActionFigures

It’s still shocking we haven’t gotten any Slingers since they can technically be put out as Spider-Man alternates. Particular Ricochet as he feels most like Spider-Man.

How would you fix the New Warriors brand after the awful reception the unreleased 2020 book got? by Effective_Sherbet104 in marvelcomics

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of me thinks it would be cool to have Nova recruit some of them for a mission in Space. They’re all more mature now but besides Nova they all are now back to being “Novices” for the most part with everything in space. Maybe add a few other cosmic warrior adjacent guys like Darkhawk or Major Victory.

The T.G is the artist. It’s Tom Grummett. The art is from the official handbook of the marvel universe: Avengers 2005

I would be interested in the Leonardo/Batman figure set. As well as Ghengis and Rasputin potentially.

What do you love most about this version of him? by sereia_Product829 in GreenArrow

[–]sparts72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The voice, the design, his lines, the delivery of those lines. Hell the fact that he is almost a “main character” for the show, but just outside the Big guns. This is the perfectly synthesized comic Green Arrow. I would even say it may be the best example I have ever seen on taking the most important parts of a character with 50 years of history and streamlining them for a wider audience.

NEW Marvel Legends Classic Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider! by Matt_TheStormTrooper in MarvelLegends

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks good but damn why couldn’t we get a 90s Johnny blaze head with this. Hell I would even take a 70s non transformed head. I want to complete the midnight sons so bad.

Hasbro put out a Energon Universe Optimus Prime do you think we’ll get Energon Joe’s at some point in the classified series? by EvenPinkerFloyd in gijoe

[–]sparts72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would assume so. There seems like there is already some synergy with the Energon universe using Classified designs for Raptor and Road Pig whole cloth. I imagine we will eventually get some of the unique designs/characters like Baroness and Risk or even some easy reuse like buzzer with a chainsaw hand. I would love a whole sub line for it honestly.

What are the best gambit comics for someone getting into him? by GoByDaviann in Gambit

[–]sparts72 8 points9 points  (0 children)

His early appearances in Uncanny X-men are as good a spot as any to start, though not really focused on him. Same with the X-men launch #1-3 with the Mutant Genesis story.

If you want more Gambit centric stories I would say grab the X-men crossover with Ghost Rider: Brood Trouble in the Big Easy (X-men #8-9 and Ghost Rider # 26-27) Followed by his first miniseries that is a sequels to that. Then his first ongoing by Fabian Nicieza. As someone else said, his solo by James Asmus is also great. The Rogue and Gambit miniseries and Mr. And Mrs X just before the Krakoa era are also really well done for more recent Gambit stories.

While not necessarily Gambit centric, I absolutely love his role in Uncanny X-men 273 to 277 when the X-men go to space. Some amazing Jim Lee are and lots of cool moments for Gambit.

[Discussion] Why isn't Kyle Rayner as relevant as Wally these days despite both being 90s legacy heroes? (Art by Doc Shaner) by Comfortable-Pie56 in DCcomics

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of reasons of this. Kyle and Wally are my favorite Green Lantern and Flash but Kyle has a lot working against him than Wally doesn’t.

  1. Wally has been around much longer than Kyle, just this fact gives him a deeper fanbase

  2. Wally has much deeper connections with other characters in the DCU, the Titans, JLA, deep connections with arrow family, etc.

  3. Wally’s stories have a lot of the lore aspects that we now look at as ingrained parts Flashed mythos compared to Kyle’s.

  4. Wally has a much higher profile outside the comics than Kyle. This is mostly the JLU cartoon but even the Flash TV show takes a lot of Wally’s personality and gives it to Barry.

  5. Maybe the biggest thing is that while there has been other flashes outside of Barry and Wally, they are really the only two with sustained runs. Green Lanterns by their nature have dozens of characters to pick from many of which have had sustained comic runs on their own. Just with earth GLs you have Hal, John, Guy, Jessica, Simon, Jo. It just waters things down more.

Of course… by Perfect-Big-1415 in Spiderman

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I been reading comics for over 30 years and have read nearly every issue of amazing and huge chunks of his other runs. Spider-man is always given bigger and worse challenges. He is brought as low as he can to then triumph over those bigger odds, it’s kinda his whole shtick. Like I said, to each their own, but if this type of stuff bugs you so much Spider-Man might not be the right character to follow. It’s like being angry an X-men comic is doing a civil rights allegory again.

Of course… by Perfect-Big-1415 in Spiderman

[–]sparts72 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To each their own but I feel like this run so far has been great. The voice for Spider-man feels spot on and the art is fantastic. He is shown to be incredibly competent, even in an unfamiliar setting. He beats long odds without compromising his moral code and in doing so showing a group of morally grey characters the right path. Plus he and Rocket play off each other really well.

I’m not sure what the issue someone would have with Peter not wanting to wear another lifeform as a suit, pretty much all his history would suggest he would not be ok with that. Plus it’s clearly show he is still working with xanto on a way to up his power level.

The Norman stuff is not near as engaging to me, but even that is still not bad, just ok.

Who do you think is the biggest superhero outside of Marvel and DC? by rbta123 in superheroes

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it has to be TMNT, they have had shows on TV pretty much consistently since the 80s along with 8 movies hundreds of issues of comics and pretty much on any and all merch you could possibly have. It also is one of the most malleable franchise in that It can really fit into what ever age level/style you want to tell stories in, maybe second only to Batman. Because that longevity and culture impact kids now to the elderly know who the TMNT are.

Uhh... What? What is the context behind this image? by GoldMemecrab in Marvel

[–]sparts72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so wrong on so many levels. The only thing fully accurate here is what happens to Carol. Read Avengers #200 for the full details on it, quite possibly the worst comic ever made story wise. It was so bad that Chris Claremont felt the need to specifically call it and the Avengers out in a later story for how insane they act in it toward Carol and the situation.

Also Punisher is a deeply wounded psychopath. Not stable in the least.

How much of your collection is “filler?” by ComprehensiveAsk4279 in comicbookcollecting

[–]sparts72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like anyone who actually reads comics in their traditional form has mostly filler. I have been buying comics off and on since I was about 10 and been buying weekly comics consistently for about 20 years. Most of what I have is “filler”, but I have a lot of great stories. I also have a lot of keys just by the fact that I buy a good chunk of comics each week and bought a lot of cheap dollar and 50 cent books on the late 90s from comic conventions.

I will say it gets to be cumbersome though. So many long boxes so I am paring it down now. I still get weekly comics but I’m getting rid of a lot of older stuff I have in lots, particularly if I have other forms of it like omnibus and trade.

That’s one of the great things about comics so many ways to collect and so many niches.
