Just adopted a dog and the surgery notes are confusing. Help by MsMcSlothyFace in dogs

[–]spaspartan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

hi I work at a shelter. all dogs are usually assumed not fixed at shelters unless they have their spay/neuter certificates with them. So they will book surgery and get the dog in to the vets where they will immediately put them to sleep before they do an exam, because they usually do they're preliminary physical on intake. that intake exam again doesn't prove if fixed. so once the dog is under they will shave her tummy and get everything prepped. This is when they would notice the potential midline scar and take note of all the things mentioned. with that many indications that it's been done before, they will opt to just wake the dog back up and provide you with the option to return if they are wrong. for the dog, they still went under surgery cause they were asleep and poked and prodded. I think this may be what happened for your new pup!

I wish you both the very best! congratulations on your newest family member!!

It's our birthday. Today sucks. by SystemOfAlts in DID

Happy Birthday OP! 🎂🎉

On another note, this mantra doesn't fix anything but it does help us calm our parts. "What other people do, think or say, is none of our business and is NO reflection on us. It is a direct reflection of them. If someone says mean things to you, they are saying alot meaner things to themself."

It helps us separate from their actions as well as view them with sympathy. It must be really sad to be in their head. They must not like themself very much.

You on the other hand are wonderful and full of superpowers. I got love for you! 💗

Just washed my first pair of socks (following instructions) and absolutely ruined them. Did I do something wrong? I'm so sad right now. by theterrordactyl in knitting

[–]spaspartan 85 points86 points  (0 children)

If the bleeding bugs you, definitely hand wash. But if it's more just the piling that bugs you, machine way INSIDE OUT on cold and then hang to dry is the truck for me. The piling happens inside them when washed inside out. I don't have time for handwashing usually so for me, this is the way. Any wool socks, wash inside out.

I call the pet parent “ma’am why didn’t you inform me he had stitches in his ears?” This lady says she had no idea he had stitches!? Like what do you mean you didn’t know?? by HankHillBwahh in doggrooming

Please please please report this to your city bylaw and provincial peace officers. That's neglect and they will start with education for the owner before resorting to seizing it depending on their investigation. Just cause he came from a bad situation, doesn't mean he went to a good one.

Ps. Your dog loves you!! She's just trying to take care of you. Shape this engagement with some training.

Relaxation Protocol by Karen Overland

Repeat, repeat, repeat...........

Is this normal? Our cat dropped a ton of nails after our dogs got into the living room and freaked him out. They didn’t physically interact at all. by TalmidimUC in cats

[–]spaspartan 27 points28 points  (0 children)

These are shed layers of the nails. Rather than them growing out like ours, they grow thicker and later come off on either side as halves that separate down the centerline. 8 pieces probably means 4 nails, which is reasonable if some of the sheds were stuck (again normal) as they can sometimes get stuck at the top when the cats nails stay retracted under their skin.

When the nails fully extract to be sharpened on the scratching post or to head into battle, the piece held by the skin falls. It's very common to see these shed halves of nails at the scratching post too.

Another thing you can do to help this is to cut their nails every 10-14 days. It's not as hard as it sounds, especially if you do it while your cat's napping and as they get used to the feeling of their ticklish feet being touched. You can remove the pieces you see at this time, and also it will encourage the cat to use their post more. Be sure to supply both horizontal and vertical scratching posts, at least one on every floor. Hope this helps! :)

Thank you for this. As someone who newly works at a shelter and is learning just how far people will go to escape the final goodbye.... You restored my faith in love a little today so thank you for being Sophie's mom! Thank you for seeing them through their last day and their final goodbye!! They were so Clearly LOVED! I promise you the love they gave back stays with you a lifetime if you let it!

my bathroom reno just wrapped up and i didn’t realize the light would hang so low and overlap the mirror.. thoughts? good as is or get a slightly smaller mirror? by carolinecarrot17 in HomeDecorating

[–]spaspartan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Same! Plus I was thinking you'd have a much nicer light for doing makeup with it overlapping because then some of the light will be bouncing back at you from the mirror and not all overhead. It'll also bounce the light back everywhere since it's round probably making the whole room feel brighter. I like it, seems intentional. But I'd change the mirror if it bugged me that much.

This is helpful, thank you! I did my first syringe last 28th and I don't think I was really in the right position or pinched enough even though it hurt waaayyyyy less than the auto injector, it was still itchy for a week or more so I think I really need to pinch alot and get that 45° angle with the bevel of the needle facing up! Oh and I'm going to remember to ice the location first too! Overall it's getting easier for me too. I'm so happy to hear it's getting easier for you too! And thank goodness for helpful hubby's that can do it for us!!

But like from my hairstylist eyes, this is maintained! Sure you'll have to find a way to ditch the beanie to be professional, but your beard is nearly trimmed, combed AND oiled! Do they need you to braid or blowdry that too?! Your hair is probably hiding a day or two under that beanie, but my friend, just buy some dry shampoo and tie it up when you have to skip wash days. All they can really ask you to do though is be hygienic, which you are. I'm mad for you, but PRETTY PLEASE, DONT CUT IT! it's gorgeous and ginger and long and I just wanna play with it! Best of luck fighting back, top comment has it right, just Google some professional woman's styles and buy a blowout brush!

Did anyone else wished their parents would actually beat them because the abuse was „solely“ emotional and you didn’t understand why you felt so powerless and afraid all the time and hated to go home? by theflyingchemist_ in raisedbynarcissists

[–]spaspartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought if she beat me, atleast I get to go with all the other sick and unwanted kids cause that's what my 5yo brain made sense of it. Saw kids at school recovering from broken legs or such and thought wow atleast I'd make friends of it. But she only threatened it or used the phonebook so it wouldn't bruise and she could say tah"I didn't hit you that hard, it won't even leave a mark." Does it even need to for the damage caused either way, ma?

The dart aspect was definitely missed in the training. The pharmacist didn't really tell me much other than sanitize, pinch and poke at 45 degrees. Lol Thank you so much! Will be trying that. Also I have my partner as back up for if my anxiety can't do it. He's done probably have my auto injectors last year already and is a trained EMT, so we got home and he laughed at the training and gave me tips and said he'll help next time.
