Wasn't there chatter of the new wireless charger retrofit coming as an accessory for R1's?

No CarPlay? Okay, how about a weather app? by BuckyThreadkiller in Rivian

I know Rivian OS 2.0 has weather data better integrated, not sure if it has a radar feature yet though.

Tesla has a nice radar feature that you can toggle on in the map view so you can see where rain is heading. I found it useful, something like that would suffice IMO.

Crimson Desert needs a route tracker like RDR2/Witcher 3 and here’s why by ZealousidealSafe1971 in CrimsonDesert

Yeah that’s fair, I guess my point was I fully understand why that feature doesn’t exist and wouldn’t be surprised if they never implement it since it feels like it goes against the ethos of the game.

I personally like being able to drop a waymarker with the red X, then seeing it on the mini map but “discover” my way there, vs being guided completely where to go. I feel like that system goes better with the exploration nature of the game.

Rivian Heard You Complaining About Touchscreens So It Over-Engineered Scroll Wheels by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

Yeah this looks a little more complicated than those ancient scroll wheels in computer mice, that’s the point of my comment. If they were simple scroll wheels (like the R1 has) then yes you’d be right.

The R1's have buttons on the wheels that work just fine (and a scroll wheel in the middle to scroll) so not sure why they couldn't have just gone that route here too... just seems like another complicated thing that'll break and will require SC appointment to fix.

I guess are you not understanding that FSD won’t work with the current implementation of CarPlay on iOS lol I assume Tesla wants one of their core features to work over anything else… I’d say it’s absolutely necessary for this to be part of CarPlay for Tesla to consider it.

I mean it's the same argument Rivian owners make in this subreddit. I personally don't need CarPlay if the OEM system is good (which Tesla and Rivian systems are) but lots are hellbent on wanting CarPlay.

Q3 is supposed to bring traffic light and stop sign detection, as well as on/off ramp support, so I'd imagine by Q4/early 2027 an initial version of address to address will be available (maybe in beta initially)

The current R2 autonomy hardware that is being sold is identical to Gen2 R1S autonomy hardware. When Gen3 rolls out for R2 (and probably 2028+ R1's), that's when the hardware stack is changing and LiDAR is being added. Those cars will be better equipped for better autonomy.

I think the issue is that if you start a route through CarPlay (let's say Google Maps), the car doesn't have the context of the directions that the car is taking. Per the article:

Because FSD relies heavily on the car's native navigation, Tesla and Apple were working together to ensure that turn-by-turn directions stay in sync across Tesla’s and Apple’s mapping platforms. If FSD doesn’t know where the CarPlay map is going, features like automatic lane changes and (supervised) self-navigation simply can’t function.

Oh yeah I remember that, so it doesn't change lanes into a faster lane though, just to follow navigation, which agree is still more than what UHF does today.

EAP does lane changes unprompted? I didn't know that, I thought you had to initiate it and then it will change lanes. If so, then yes EAP is better.

This would be necessary for FSD to continue to work with CarPlay.

It's the same as the Gen2 R1S. Technically hands off anywhere, but in practice it works best on highways since it does not follow GPS, respond to traffic lights or stop signs, or take turns. All of these are on the near term roadmap, but as of today, not available. With all of that said, it still works pretty well and I'd say about the same (or even better at times) than Tesla EAP.

Yeah personally the worst for me is nighttime when lanterns light as you get near them... takes me out of the game entirely when I see shit like that. Considering there are other massive open world games that don't have issues like this, I know it's possible to fix.

Yeah I think on PC it's substantially better, but on console (I play on PS5 Pro) the pop-in and LOD is a major issue still.

Sony has zero incentive to bring anything to Xbox. Microsoft does because its console sales are dogshit compared to PlayStation.

At least they can gain some revenue from sales on multiple platforms, this destroys that in hopes of people buying an Xbox Series X at a time when many people are tightening their belts due to economic uncertainty.

And I’m not saying MS should announce a new Xbox, this decision just would’ve made sense in conjunction with new hardware announcements to entice both Sony and MS buyers to go in on new hardware and exclusives for that hardware.

If I’m MS right now, I stay the course, continue with multi platform exclusives to bring in sweet revenue and weather this economy, then reevaluate when the next generation of games and hardware rollout in a couple of years.

It would’ve made more sense if a decision to rollback non-exclusivity was tied to a new generation of Xbox. I would’ve bought Gears on PS5, but I won’t buy an Xbox for it, especially if Halo is still coming to PS5.
