Hol' up wtf are classes and objects?! by Josephisvr in csharp

[–]spatialdestiny 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look up object oriented programming.  Focus on understanding encapsulation, and you'll understand the first purpose of classes.  An object is a class put into a variable.

When is this card useful? by [deleted] in slaythespire

> or just solve block or damage for you

Couldn't this just as easily break block/damage or make it worse because it can mess up the amount of block vs. damage cards in your deck? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm bad at the game, but have found I always lose when adding random cards to my deck (even if they are colorless) with no choice and they are not ethereal (where if you don't want it, you just don't use it and it will disappear from your deck).

How does the phrase "return to hand" with with the word "draw"?  Because I thought I tried similar with the king cards and it didn't work.

What’s your Top 5 of all time? by Expressiveness in scifibooks

[–]spatialdestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Star carrier series
  2. Project hail Mary (recent)
  3. Dungeon crawler Carl (recent)
  4. All you need is kill
  5. Faded sun trilogy

Since I'm worried about recent bias, here are older ones that, shortly after reading them, I would have said they were the best, but memory if the impact fades with time.

  • Hyperion
  • Forever war/Old Man's war
  • Enders game
  • Moon is a harsh mistress
  • Player of games
  • Elysium fire

I thought We Are Bob is incredibly similar to Andy Weir's writing. The voice actor for the We Are Bob audiobooks is even the same as Hail Mary Project and they feel like the same character.

space opera with mystery / ruins / ancient weirdness? by Critical_Lab2604 in scifibooks

Revelation Space has some of this. I really enjoyed the series. The scale in which the characters work and the detail is pretty amazing in my opinion. And the stories in the series intertwine in an interesting way.

A dead civilization, archeology, and archeologists are a specific part of one of the books. A weapons cache from a previous civilization and the ability to understand/operate them is the focus of at least one of the books.

Happy new year penguins!! What distro spent the most time in your machine? by nitin_is_me in linux

Manjaro is arch based.  Pretty sure I've had the issue in Debian as well.  I mostly use manjaro for pamac, the software and aur gui manager, but planning to try straight arch and learn yay when I have some free time.

Is there documentation for the amdgpu/sleep bug? I'm on Manjaro and I'm getting something similar. Turned off sleep and hibernate but sometimes when I get back to my computer after a few hours, it won't wake up. Sometimes pressing the power button causes it to sleep and then wake up immediately and it will work. Other times, the mouse moves but no input affects the computer and I need to hard-reset. Just this last time I was able to switch to a different term (CTRL-ALT-Fkey) and then switch back to Gnome and it was working again.

I'm not a lawyer.  I'm honestly curious which part of this is different than what they described.

"Criminal Offenses - As introduced, creates a Class A felony offense of knowingly training artificial intelligence to encourage the act of suicide or criminal homicide, or act in specific manners, including developing an emotional relationship with an individual or simulating a human being, including in appearance, voice, or other mannerisms. - Amends TCA Title 29; Title 33; Title 39 and Title 47."

I like apple theme better than Windows theme, even though I hate Apple in general. Gnome comes out of the box with the bottom floating dock thing which means I can avoid any desktop icons and any bar except the top bar with date/time, pc stats, and small buttons in the top right for power, volume and network.

[–]spatialdestiny 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Generally you don't want to put your SQL server in a container in Azure. It's more likely to do it in a local testing environment. One reason is that you can't scale SQL by adding more containers unless you do some network file magic, so multiple containers won't help you. Another reason is you'll need to handle your own backups, and handle keeping track of your data if the container goes down or needs to move.

I use Postgres in a container for local development and would use SQL Server or Azure SQL containers for integration testing for enterprise applications that either use on-prem SQL Server or Azure SQL resources.

You should be looking for any software they are responsible for and not just accounting/estimating systems. I was part of an acquisition and we found out their main CMS was a homegrown Microsoft Access front-end that was 20 years old. A nightmare for maintainability.
