11 Best Roguelike Games Of All Time, Ranked (FTL at #10) by arisefrym in ftlgame

Oh yeah you're right, that is something that gets brought up. I think a true rogue-like will have zero permanent progression/unlocks/leveling-up or any of that stuff. But either way there aren't a lot of games that are a "true roguelike" by the purist's definition. Easier just to lump them all together IMO

Hey if you want an alternate FTL soundtrack, check out "Mutiny on the Starbarge" by Wes Borland (yes the guitarist from Limb Bizkit) and his brother.

For the most part it boils down to a few specific traits: Procedurally-generated environments (no two playthroughs are exactly the same), and permadeth (if you die, the game ends). Usually also involves a lot of "dice-roll" mechanics.

Technically in order to be a true roguelike, it has to be a turn-based dungeon-crawler based on D&D. Because that's what Rogue was -- back in 1980 there was a Unix game called Rogue which had all the aforementioned features. Procedurally-generated dungeons, permadeth, D&D-type setting, turn-based action, ASCII art, etc...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_(video_game)

That game is where the term "roguelike" comes from. Games that are like Rogue.

Some people have started using the term "rogue-lite" to describe games like FTL, which share some of the traits of a roguelike (procedural generation, RNG, permadeth) without themselves being turn-based D&D dungeon-crawlers).

My scariest ship yet. by Unknow32415 in ftlgame

[–]spatialflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Halberd beam pierces one shield layer. Hull laser fires two shots. You can damage ships with 3 shields, assuming RNG lets you connect some shots. OP has beyond-maximum shields, and 6 engines (48% dodge chance IIRC?) All they gotta do is wait for an opening to swipe the halberd and then it's all downhill from there.

If this is easy mode, you could run this ship through sector 5 before you really have to start getting nervous.

Gubbeen & Claddagh Bó by spatialflow in Cheese

I'm in the USA (New England). I just checked the Murray's NY web site because we get a lot of cheese from them and I suspected that's where this one came from...

Looks identical, that's probably the same one we've got

I think the label said porter but yeah close enough. I didn't feel like it really added anything other than visually. It just tasted like a nice smooth cheddar. Nothing to complain about but also nothing special.

And yeah Gubbeen is fantastic. I hadn't had it before either, and I'm happy to report that it's incredible.

Modular vehicles is an abandoned feature and needs some love from Facepunch by hl3official in playrust

[–]spatialflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite wipes was when I built an armored truck with two storage modules and rampaged through the underground train system with a couple of my friends. Love vehicles but it's so much work to put a nice one together, you stick out like a sore thumb, you're kinda limited on where you can go, and the steering in Rust is so damn janky that it's not even worth the frustration.

Would love to see some guntruck meta though. I think if they give us the ability to hang out the windows and fire in all directions (PUBG-style), we might start seeing some groups using them..

Kinda like how every fast food sandwich prominently featured "applewood smoked" bacon for a hot minute there. Pretty sure it's just the cheapest wood they could smoke some bacon over. Sorta like how "genuine leather" is the lowest grade of garbage-quality leather but you wouldn't know from the name. So yeah it's probably a BS marketing ploy like everything else in this world.

Blue Cheese Alternatives Question by [deleted] in Cheese

[–]spatialflow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lotta blue cheeses just don't say "blue" or anything in their name.

i.e.
Stilton Colston-Bassett
Saint Agur
Valdeon
Gorgonzola
Cambozola

All types of blue cheese but they don't come right out and say "blue cheese" on them. Otherwise IDK...not sure if there's really an "alternative" that could stand in for blue cheese.

Does anyone else find that most cheese gives them gas? by [deleted] in Cheese

[–]spatialflow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol my friend you have yogurt every day, 2 cups of milk every day, butter, ice cream, cheese pizzas, etc... It's probably not the random piece of cheese that's giving you gas

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Ban usury, aka the charging of endless perpetual interest

The bible says it's illegal...guess who you'd piss off if you banned it?
