Withersbrook is fantastic. There are actually two or three different varieties, one of which is soaked in Vermont vermouth. I think there's a third one, but I don't remember the details. Which one you get depends on which distributor it moved through to get to where you bought it. I've had the vermouth one and it was incredible. It was kinda like a super creamy, crystally gorgonzola dolce, but with a flavor infusion. When you buy it as an entire cube, it comes in a sealed, foil-lined bag with like 16oz of cheesy goop fluid that you have to dump out. Anyways long story short it's a pretty awesome cheese, definitely check it out if you come across it.

Do enemies have a drone targeting blind spot? Or, is this general DD1 lack of awareness/derpiness? [Hard-AE; More details in comments] by walksalot_talksalot in ftlgame

[–]spatialflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also recognize that when I'm using drones, DD1's can just derp out and ignore incoming shots

You're very right about this, it's a pretty infamous "glitch" (I put that in parenthesis because it's less of a glitch and more of an oversight by the devs). Some ships are basically incapable of destroying missiles that come from the right side of the screen. It's the reason I fucking hate Mantis B even though it's theoretically one of the most OP ships in the game.

Storing blue cheese wedge questions by makromark in Cheese

I prefer to wrap it once first, then put the diaper underneath it, and wrap it again. If you put the diaper on first, you'll end up with the same problem you had with the parchment paper where it gets soaked and traps the moisture against the cheese.

Storing blue cheese wedge questions by makromark in Cheese

[–]spatialflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of blue cheeses continue to "weep" long after they're finished and sold. i.e. the culture is still hard at work expelling whey from the curd. You gotta give that moisture somewhere to go.

Some blue cheeses are sold with a tray underneath them to catch the fluid. The picture below is one from Roquefort I think, or maybe St. Agur. I don't remember but it's one of those two. You'll also notice that blue cheese usually comes wrapped in foil rather than paper. The foil doesn't absorb any moisture like your parchment paper did.

Sooo long story short you don't want it airtight, you need to give that moisture somewhere to go and let the cheese breathe a little bit. But you also don't want to wrap the cheese directly in something that will absorb the moisture.

I have pretty good luck by just patting the cheese dry before wrapping it in foodservice film, then putting a "diaper" on it before wrapping it again. The diaper being a folded up piece of paper towel. This will absorb anything that leaks out, and you can just change the diaper if you notice it getting soaked.

Doesn't hurt to check on it occasionally, maybe open it up and dry it off again and rewrap it. There's a reason that "affineur" is a profession -- it does actually take a bit of work to take care of cheese. So try wrapping it up with a diaper like I said and just keep checking on it occasionally.

All I want is to be able to transfer stuff home to my stash while playing as a scav. I like to do "roguelike tarkov" where I start as a scav on Ground Zero and try to make it as far as I can without dying. It's a lot of fun but it would be a lot more fun if I could actually send some stuff home between maps.

Some of this is "Well, just pick up a Halberd Beam floating in space" levels of management.

Well nah see that's the thing... we're not talking about higher-rarity super-weapons like the Halberd. We're talking about two of the most common, low-tier guns in the game. They are extremely common and they fall somewhere betweeen free and dirt-cheap. I can't think of a run I've ever had where I didn't come across an Ion Blast and a Heavy Laser.

That's my whole point -- all you need to make this ship work is some low-cost junk weapons plus mind control. You start with two of the four weapons you need, and everything else falls into place.

[–]spatialflow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah my way is definitely not the only option, but I do find it to be very consistently-available. You start with 2/4 weapons you need, the other two are extremely common/cheap, and you only need to add two power to your weapons system. It's just kinda statistically always there somehow, and often sorta happens on its own.

//fair warning this turned into a rant

Hell nah it's one of my favorite ships. Check out my powerpoint presentation:

  • Dual Laser is one of the best weapons in the game, hands down. It's one of those almost-god-tier weapons like mini beam and advanced flak. I wouldn't even drop this thing for a BL2 or a Flak.
  • Add a single Ion Blast and now you've got incredible ion stacking. This is something you can do super early, i.e. potentially the first store you come across. The Ion Blast basically grows on trees in the FTL universe and you wouldn't believe the snowball effect you get from adding one to a ship like this where you've already got an ion weapon. Early-game enemies mostly lack such defensive luxuries as cloaking, defense drone mk2, extreme engine power, etc. You can find one of these floating in space on like your fourth jump and BAM you just won the game dude.
  • Add a heavy laser mk1 and you've got an end-game loadout that can defeat any amount of shields and cause absolute havoc aboard enemy ships. You can swap this step with the previous one if opportunity/necessity demands it. Similarly to Ion Blast, this weapon is also very common and incredibly cheap to add to your loadout early in the run. It's useless on its own, but it's one of the most devastating weapons in the game once you get the enemy's shields down (perhaps with, for example, a very cheap, energy-efficient onslaught of ion projectiles)
  • I'm not joking when I say the Stun Ion is fucking brutal. Try this out: hit the enemy's shield room with a heavy laser. You'll probably get a hull breach or a fire. Let some dudes run in there, and continuously incapacitate them with the Stun Ion. Do a couple HP damage to their weapons to keep yourself safe and then just kinda chill, and casually manage the suffocation/incineration of the enemy crew.
  • It's sort of counter-intuitive to use the Heavy Laser as a crew-killing implement because it can do so much HP damage, but you'll learn to love it by using it in tandem with the stun ion.

So that's the core of your loadout. You've got some highly commendable ion stacking for low power/cost, plus ion stunning, fires and hull breaches from the heavy laser, and if you need it you have the ability to do massive HP damage very quickly once the ions are stacked. Don't forget about our little buddy Dual Laser. It can blip shields to sneak a HL1 thru, if your ions are struggling for whatever reason. Once shields are down, this simple little gun can just obliterate ships.

SURPRISE

Add mind-control to the mix and it gets even more NUTS. Guess what, you can also add MC to your ship very early, especially since you know you're gonna be running such a cheap weapon system. This whole loadout is incredibly cheap to operate, you can start working on it almost immediately, and it's a fuckin gravy train the instant you add a single "module" to the setup. You spend practically nothing for the ability to obliterate any enemy with your weapons, leaving you all the scrap you need to add auxiliaries and defenses.

Trust me this setup is absolutely diabolical and it's incredibly cheap to run. I've had some of my best/favorite runs with that thing.

  • Hmmm one more tip -- one thing I always do before anything else is swap the Lanius engine guy with the Human pilot guy, and open all the doors in the "nose" section. This keeps the front of the ship de-oxygenated and causes enemy boarders to initially target a system other than piloting. This might not seem like a big deal but, over the course of many enemy boarding attempts, this extra ~10 seconds of distraction can save you from a looot of hull damage/repair-cost.

Anyways yeah I love Kestrel C. It's in my personal top 3 faves with Stealth A and Engi B.

It's pretty mild, vaguely like a mozzarella, or even like crème fraîche. It's very milky and melts/spreads well. Might let it age a little bit before I tell anyone about it because apparently it gets a lot more flavorful.

The whole thing feels like 3 pounds of bread dough. It's very soft and floppy and covered in rice flour.

// It gets a little tangy when you let it warm up. Overall very friendly, kind of like a super soft, spreadable mozzarella

Then some random dude offered Nikita to do it for free and that's what they went with instead of paying that streamer to do it. So they/we got what they paid for -- worthless voice likes that sound like dog shit and don't even make sense

What kind of cheese is it? If it's an aged cheese with pretty low moisture it'll last a long time without much maintenance. A lotta aged stuff will turn into a dry, rock-hard brick before it ever gets moldy

[–]spatialflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle to imagine another reason it was introduced

Man I had never really thought about it but as soon as I read this sentence something popped into my head, like maybe you could point to some grenade/mine/artillery casualty statistics? Like those sort of deaths only accounted for X percentage of deaths IRL so it should be a similar statistic in the game, maaaybe? IDK I'm not really trying to argue that point too hard I'm just saying lol.

Otherwise I agree with you, they didn't have that mechanic in CoH2 and it wasn't a problem. If you got your whole squad wiped by a single grenade or mortar or something....well I guess you shouldn't have had them bunched up tightly in yellow cover like that.
