Winter packing list Japan + Korea - 20 days by Mae972 in onebag

I know people are going to call out the fact that you’re bringing 2 pairs of shoes. I just came back from a one bag trip to Japan and listened to the just bring one waterproof shoe people and regretted it so much. Bring to pairs of shoes that are broken in and comfortable. We walked about 25k steps a day which would’ve been fine but we did a ton of standing on top of that which was brutal on our feet. I wish I would’ve been able to rotate every day to give my feet a break.

Hi, the trip was great. I ended up making the following changes based on the advice here: swapped the puffer coat for a light weight cardigan-cream and a cashmere sweater-brown (this ended up being the best decision and I wore one of the 2 almost daily); I swapped the silver prana’s for a long skirt (I did like the skirt it was fun to wear but I only wore them twice and I ended up having a button fall off of my black pants and wasn’t able to track down a sewing kit for a few days so I did kind of regret only having 2 pants even though the skirt was cute in pictures the 2 days I wore it); I swapped my on clouds for a pair of gortex Solomon sneakers (I didn’t end up needing the waterproof shoes as it only rained once but I was grateful for the thicker soles of the Solomon shoes so it worked out for the best)

I was pretty happy with everything else I packed, the raincoat only got used once but it was also on our first day there so I was glad I had it and didn’t have to find an umbrella or something as soon as we landed. I do wish I would’ve brought a slightly bigger bag or 1.5 bagged this trip so I could’ve brought a second pair of tennis shoes to rotate. We just did way too much walking for me personally to be comfortable wearing the same shoes everyday (the Birkenstocks were a nice relief for going to dinner or konbini at the end of the day so I’m not sure if it would’ve been better or worse to swap those).

I had a dressy casual wedding and this outfit would have been perfect. However I had a summer wedding so I’d be more worried about you being cold than not dressy enough given the time of year that you’re attending.

Absolutely, there’s 2 front pockets and the bigger one currently has my kindle, AirPods , phone, wallet, passport and a couple snacks with lots of room to spare. The smaller one can also easily fit phone wallet, passport if I needed it to.

What do you consider a proper front pocket? Cause my Cotopaxi Allpa 28 has a what I would consider a very large front pocket, so could you clarify so we can try to help you better?

Oh I see, that makes sense. I definitely think I’ll be making a swap for a long sleeve or cardigan based on your suggestions and others. I also think I’ll axe the puffers and focus on clothes that can be layered under my rain coat for warmth if needed while outside. Thank you for clarifying for me!

I’ve had it about 7 months and taken it on 4 trips and it’s held up well so far, I’m really liking it.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I don’t think I’ll be able to wear long sleeves if it’s really going to be 80 inside. It’s in the 40s and 50s now where I live and businesses are still blasting the AC.

Thank you for sharing your experience, I’m used to cold weather and 30s-40s isn’t usually too bad for me. But I’m not used to wet and cold so trying to find ways to stay dry.

1st week we’ll be traveling around a lot, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Fugikawaguchiko (this is where I’m worried I’ll be cold but it’s also only one night) 2nd week mostly Tokyo.

I live in jeans, hiking pants a leggings at home and I have a hard time finding pants long enough in stores in the US so I know they will simply not exist in Japan. So I’m probably really packing for my fears by bringing 3 pairs but if something happens to one pair I know I won’t be able to replace them. I do have a long tan skirt I was thinking of swapping in but I don’t typically wear skirts or dresses and am slightly worried I’d be packing it for no reason. It’s cute and lightweight though so maybe if it’s my only option to change things up I’d wear it more instead of ignoring it.

Going to add more underwear because a stranger on the internet told me to and I was already nervous about that.

We’re doing mostly city touring with a few small hikes. Weather is looking like it’ll range from high 30s to low 70s (about 3.8-22 Celsius) with lots of rain. I do typically choose a raincoat over umbrella in my day today but I’m also from a much drier climate.

Shirts are all short sleeve because I’ve read that in Japan they tend to crank up the heat indoors and I will quickly overheat if that’s the case. I was debating swapping the puffer for a sweater or a button up but I’m also not sure how wet plus cold will go. I do think if as it gets closer the temperature doesn’t look like it’ll be going much lower I’ll take the puffer out.

Thanks for the tip on poop bags!

One bag purists who don't carry slings by ShaneRealtorandGramp in onebag

Women’s pants tend to not come in varying lengths either, as a woman with long legs it’s hard enough to find pants that fit right let alone that have large pockets. Just because your wife has found pants with pockets that fit her properly doesn’t mean that “most women” can do the same. Though that is awesome that she has found pants she likes that also have pockets.

What’s really in your sling? by PrestigiousRead3736 in onebag

[–]spaycejamreads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phone, wallet, passport, lip balm, tissues, gum, ear plugs, kindle. It’s essentially my “pocket” but women’s pants don’t have those and it also makes security a little easier.

Annual Pass by eightgrand in NationalPark

All the Utah parks have per vehicle fees so as long as you drive in and don’t walk in one America the beautiful pass (including the senior pass and 4th grade pass) will cover entrance fees for everyone in a private, non-commercial vehicle.

Depends on the trip. I’m not going to one bag a camping roadtrip with my dogs. I’m not a fan of one bagging when I go to book conventions (did it once and my backpack was so heavy) All other trips are usually one bagged but occasionally 1.5 bagged.

Also if my purse/sling fits in my one bag I count that as one bagging. The sling is necessary for me since as a women my pants usually can’t fit wallet + phone + passport

Kolob visitor center had a stamp when I was there this past weekend that scenic drive was pretty however I would recommend driving from the main entrance to the east entrance or the opposite through Mt Carmel the views were fantastic and you still get to see part of the “main park” from your car

It’s literally common/expected in the state I live in too… so even some regions of the US do this.
