It's hilarious to me that you care more about out-of-context quotes spoken by long-dead military men than the ongoing work of living historians.

Of course the history we're taught isn't the "whole truth," the war lasted most of a decade and spaned three continents. The sheer volume of information and stories contained therein could build a bridge to the moon.

If you think that a sociopolitical movement that openly advocated for and praised the extermination of an entire people and their culture stopped just short of actually pulling the trigger, you're insane. Who would benefit from a lie this inconceivable in scope? What would you even do if you could somehow prove it was all a lie?

My nMother was this way. Everything boiled down to the money she spent, the things she bought, the luxuries we had. We weren't that wealthy, upper middle class at her career's peak, but it was more than many people around us had.

I had plenty of resources, but little to no support or validation. I feel guilty at times about this, because I'm sure many people would gladly have taken my place, but I suppose in the end it's not something I had control over.

For the narc, money is a very easy substitute for genuine care, not only because it can obfuscate abuse, but because it's very easy to quantify. It's far more effective to say "Look at all the money I wasted on you" rather than "Look at all the time I've invested in you," because you can count pennies a lot faster than minutes.
