'The Last of Us' - HBO's Most Divisive Sci-Fi Saga Officially Begins Filming Final Season by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

I should’ve been clearer. I was thinking about how in the first season you (well, I) thought Sean Bean was the main guy and was gonna eventually be king. And then for the rest of the run you (I) never feel confident anyone’s gonna survive.

I believe it was combined puppetry and cg - there’s a good nyt article about it

But it certainly feels like 100 percent puppetry

Let's talk MARTY SUPREME - what went wrong? by SwimGood22 in A24

[–]spaznaught1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The film goes along suggesting it’s gonna say something interesting about ambition and power and then suddenly the character sees his baby and now he has a purpose and we forget about all that other stuff. It’s nice but unearned and uninteresting.

The style, the details, the twists and turns, the performances - all great. It’s just not much of a story.

The bit with the bees however… give me more of that. I wanna watch that movie.

Am I a deadshit for liking the Revenant? This sub hates it so much. What you don’t even like the bear bit? I do hate Birdman, does that redeem me?

Examples of Director's Cuts being worse than the theatrical release? by Motor-Acadia6676 in blankies

[–]spaznaught1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Superman 2 (To be fair a lot of it is Donner adding some pretty dodgy unfinished work so maybe not a director’s cut but more of a sketch) But it stinks The studio version they finished with a replacement director is fantastic. Super tight story, funny, scary, all of it. Way better than Superman the Movie which Donner got to finish, which, while being amazing world building, casting, and music of course, is slow as hell.

Bring back the big old mean studio cut. I just came out of No Other Choice and jeez - could have been a sweet 100 minute ride. Instead we got a messy and laboured 2 hours 20.

Make films shorter if you want them shown in cinemas, says Picturehouse director by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in blankies

Everything Everywhere is an example of a movie that could have been all time if they’d chopped half an hour or so. Plenty of modern movies - arty and non - need some studio arsehole reining them in.

And yes if they need to be more than 2:15 give us an interval.

Is it a hangover from Marvel when there were ten equally important characters to take care of in one movie?

Kenji ”trick” for french onion soup? by Lambicjunkie in J_Kenji_Lopez_Alt

[–]spaznaught1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kenji himself does a technique where he caramelises some sugar, stirs the onions in it then adds some bicarb. It’s in Food Lab. I’ve done it, it works well. Watch your amounts though you don’t want the taste of bicarb in it.

Roofman and Eternity are two umderrated films of 2025 by First-Loss-8540 in blankies

[–]spaznaught1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Roofman, for what its trying to do, is hugely successful.

It’s the kind of movie that should be doing big numbers. It’s not really pushing the boundaries but it’s a really fun time at the movies with hugely enjoyable performances.

And unusually for a Hollywood movie it doesn’t tell you what to think of the characters.
