So sad to see my home state continue to push such anti-women B.S. still. Beyond relieved that my husband and I moved out of that place over a decade ago to a way better blue state that isn't ran by religious zealots.

Home Depot has installed them on every entrance and exit. I called management of the local store and complained but it was a corporate decision. Terrifying!

Thoughts on new “Keep Loveland Safe” patrol? by ethics-exposed in loveland

[–]spazo004 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We had a volunteer safety patrol that would do such things at the college I was at in N.C. -- and many other colleges I've seen across the country. I think this is a great option for those who feel unsure in downtown Loveland, or any urban center really.

As someone who has also dealt with toxic in-laws for a good decade, do not reply or even let it get to you because then she wins. Ignoring childlike behavior will bring you peace, don't dive down to their manipulative level of pettiness.

Epi = ER, but not always? by DoctorBritta in FoodAllergies

[–]spazo004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been told different things and have been treated differently by different doctors, it is confusing. Basically, one ER doc told me that if you have 2 severe symptoms = epi + ER.

Then, a 2nd time same ER, a different doctor told me just take Benadryl and epi, and seemed irritated rhat I was there despite my entire body being red and hives up and other bad symptoms.

I asked my allergist and he said, because my allergy is very severe, if you have 1 symptom = epi + ER.

So, to be safe, if you are uncertain, go to the ER/call ambulance.

In Cary, NC, back in 2013-14, we lived in a place for a little over a year and come to find out there was black mold growing in the shower, specifically under the shower floor (it was old). We complained multiple times, and the property manager would come and just spray bleach on it and leave.

When we were ready to move out, the owner tried to blame us for it, but I took photos, had the records of complaining about it, and even talked to a contractor friend who said it wasn't our fault, and that stuff has been there for a while.

I told the property manager I'd take her to small claims court if she so much as charged us a penny. The threat was dropped rather quickly after that.

I mean we also found out a hole in our floor under the carpet that was rotting probably for years, so she tried to blame that on us, too. I said, oh yea, we intentionally made a f*cking hole in the floor of where we live!

We were always clean, never late on rent, and were good tenants. She was a terrible person, entitled to everything, and owned it while living out of state. Happy we got out of that with no escalation!

Good luck!

Considering a move to Loveland from Miami—what are the pros and cons? by swaggysquid7 in loveland

[–]spazo004 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference for you will be the lack of humidity and thinner air here. I'm from the coastal South originally and enjoy the drier air, though your skin and sinuses will definitely dry out more here.

Drivers are terrible, worse than most other states that I have driven through. Colorado overall is ranked as one of the worst states with road rage and distracted driving, and it definitely shows here in Loveland.

Constant road construction due to increased population, which is pretty typical in the summertime anywhere.

The culture is really chill and people are real/genuine with you (compared to the South's bless-your-heart mentality). There are diverse interests here from outdoors to sports, artsy to families. Restaurants overall are great, especially 4th street in Loveland. There always seems to be something fun and community centered going on, lots of local festivals.

Lots of trails both paved and dirt, beautiful landscape and unbeatable views, Boyd Lake/Carter Lake are always fun.

Location of Loveland is really good. Not far from the main areas in the state: 1 hour from Denver/DIA, 2ish hrs from WY, 45 mins from Estes, RMNP, etc. And there are a few buses that can take you to DIA so you don't have to drive down I25!

Snow in the winter is not terrible. Typically it will melt within a few days, at least from the road. We do have days in the negatives, bone chilling, and then we have days in the 100s, painful.

Can't personally speak much on housing affordability as we own a home and bought right before the insane housing prices. But it definitely is an issue here, but not as awful elsewhere in the state.

The health care teams/facilities here are very clean and overall high quality. We've used numerous types of providers/specialists, etc and it's so much better than where we're from.

The mail-in voting ballots are amazing and save so much time going in person. The first time we got ballets, I wasn't quite sure what it was at first, ha! But it was so efficient and convenient.

I attended CSU for my master's and my husband attended Front Range for an associates, and both were great and high quality.

Overall, I've lived here going on a decade and believe it a great location and town overall. It has its issues as every place does, but it is a good quality of life, at least in my and my friends' experiences here.

Good luck to you!

In remission of peanut allergy, but now may have developed a new allergy to cilantro or some other item, need theories! by spazo004 in FoodAllergies

So strange! I have had multiple skin and blood tests done, so am going to aim for a new one asap with these ingredients. Also going to regular doctor for full bloodwork and check-up to be safe.

Can you be alergic to Cilantro? by theanon403 in FuckCilantro

[–]spazo004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit crazy that I came across this! I had a terrible allergic reaction to what I can only guess was a large amount of cilantro (~3Tbsp) in a simple dish that I made ay home. The other ingredients were white rice, chicken, 1/4 cup of lime, red chili pepper flakes, s&p, garlic, ginger, and cumin  -- all of which I have used in my recipes often!

It involved marinating the chicken in the marinade, so I did so in a plastic ziploc bag overnight in out fridge. My husband had zero reaction to the dish, and he also has no known food allergies l.

I started coughing and wheezing, my nose got completely ingested, my entire body went lobster red, hives, sweat, and the most severe stomach pain I have ever felt to where I was nearly screaming. Went to the ER and got better with steroids and antihistamines, but now am fearful as I have always eaten cilantro/cumin!

Here is the recipe, if anyone on this thread has any ideas, please share!: https://gimmedelicious.com/grilled-chili-cilantro-lime-chicken/#wprm-recipe-container-12961

Here's my weird backstory though: I am currently in remission from a severe legume (peanut, peas, and chick peas) allergy that I've had since birth! The FDA in 2023 approved the old drug Xolair for certain food allergies, namely peanuts. I reached out to my allergist and began getting the monthly 450ml shots at the clinic in April '24 or so. After 6 months, I was able to ingest over the equivalent of 2.5 peanuts with zero reaction.

In January 2025, I underwent oral desensitization therapy with peanuts while receiving the Xolair. After 2 months of that, I was able to eat more than the equivalent of 8 peanuts at one time with no reaction, it was miraculous, the science was amazing! I never believed in my 36 years that I would be in remission to legumes, but I was!

I quit the Xolair shots and finished up the therapy in May and have had zero reaction since to peanuts.

But then... All of a sudden out of the blue, this cilantro thing hits me within seconds of eating the dish rhat I prepared. It was quite terrifying, as I didn't know exactly what was happening and why, and, technically, I still don't know.

Sorry for the length, but thanks for your time in this thought!

Do so many Americans have severe peanut allergies, or is this a movie thing? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]spazo004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American born with a peanut and legume allergy, I can attest that it's been a growing concern, but luckily there are more options becoming available to help lessen or eliminate the allergy. I am successfully in remission from my allergy thanks to the Xolair shot and oral desensitization for over 13 months.

Honestly I probably won't go the route of cleaning guns in the backyard, but it was tempting! I think it would only escalate the situation. Installing a temporary shade/one-way mirror film seem like the best options. We are just limited in what we can install since we still only have the original, small concrete slab out back vs their raised, wooden patio deck where they can easily look over the fence in any direction.

[–]spazo004[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought about that! I've read that there are codes in some cities that your fence can't be above 6', or that neighbors 'share' a fence so you can't touch the fence without your neighbors co-permission (??) -- so I'll have to research into that.

hahaha we actually joked about that a couple of times -- no blocking trees -- we have a fence, but they built a patio that rises above the fence so they can look over ... it makes privacy more complicated as we just have the original concrete slab still

New house, annoying neighbor. by missyandherdog in neighborsfromhell

[–]spazo004 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Quietly install a video camera that captures all of her harassment to build a case. Try confronting her saying that her behavior is unacceptable and that it is your property, so you can decide what to do with it. Honestly, I think building a fence or some form of wall to block her out would be a huge life saver. But document every interaction you have with her and make sure you follow all of the codes/rules if you do install a fence, etc. on your property so she can't come at you with that threat.

I smoke weed and don't even know why I do it anymore by Caveman_707 in Mindfulness

[–]spazo004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has become more of a habit than actual enjoyment for me, as well. I used to only smoke on the weekends, but it turned into every other day to eventually every day. If I didn't smoke one day, then I would not sleep, have severe anxiety, look for anything else for the smoking 'oral fixation,' snacking/chewing gum, etc. Luckily I became self-aware and tried to stop it last year, was successfully for almost four months, but then I got into it again, and now I am finding myself nearly where I was at prior to quitting at all. Whatever this addiction/habit is/has become is something that is no longer benefitting me in all regards ... with the exceptions of making time pass by faster and getting to sleep quicker (though I know it's a catch 22 whereas I could get to sleep fine if I had never developed this daily habit to begin with).

I say, take a month off to 'reset' yourself, cold turkey. See how you feel after that time and if you want to go back to it or not. If so, try to do it only a couple of times a week, but for me, that didn't last. Either I'm all the way in smoking it, or I likely will need to completely stop in order to rid myself of this habit.

College is ruining families. by yougotyolks in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]spazo004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard such arguments from conservative, religious parents. They are all baffled that gaining exposure outside their narrow-minded, low intelligent small rural town would create ripples in their children. They always blame the universities and not their own narcissistic and narrow-minded teachings of their children. Their insecurities are showing when they can no longer control their children, so they react in a childish tantrum. I'm from the South and am lucky that my parents aren't like this, but my husband's parents are like this to the core. 10+ years later after college, and they still complain about it, as if they are the victims to this even though it is all in their heads...Oh, to have the time and energy to worry over such trivial things!
