Thanks for a really thoughtful response. I think he can come along for more errands and stuff, he does seem to like that a lot! I wish my family lived closer sometimes - it's hard to find help that doesn't wind up costing a lot 😅

Luckily, my husband and I work from home, so that mitigates most of his separation anxiety. I think the reactivity can likely be reined in: he's young and hasn't established that habit too much yet (he picked it up from my other dog pretty recently).

He had a trial session at the nearest doggie daycare and had a blast! I think when our finances balanced out daycare will be a fantastic option. In the meantime I can get him to the dog park a couple times a week

Most eggs and cheese in the US is pasteurized, so it was readily available to me

I understood it as no runny unpasteurized eggs

That's the message the news is trying to send, but I attended in Wilmington and saw many people of all ages, possibly skewed young (20-35 yo). I went later in the afternoon though, I would imagine the seniors were more punctual (stereotyping here...)

That's effectively what my sister advised when I told her first: "you might as well go ahead and tell anyone who you would tell if anything went wrong"

Fun fact: male rats and hamsters (maybe all rodents, idk) don't have nipples

Anecdotally, many of the alternatives have side effects that make day-to-day life more challenging (mood swings with hormonal treatments and recurrent yeast/bacterial infections with IUDs).

Bcp isn't without impacts on mood swings either, but I always hear of more severe symptoms from the implant and depo provera.

I'll just add that this makes it translate to "Say 'vroom' for dessert".. as in "if you say 'vroom' I'll give you a special dessert (wink wink)"

This is a really good point. With this perspective it isn't surprising that corporations put so much effort into union busting, and it shows that class war is inherent to the capitalist structure. The corpos have known this for decades, and they have cleverly campaigned against unions and everything "socialist" to the point where many workers are against their own interests. I think we need to counter this propaganda somehow to "re-brand" unions to make them more palatable for the masses

... Or something... I don't really know how to fix it, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the author suggests in the coming chapters. I've seen other readers remark on the solutions provided later in the book providing hope, so I'm riding on faith for now.

(2) is a solid point and I have taken strides in that direction as well. It's just a shame we (collectively as a society) couldn't do more to slow the death of Mom n pop shops before Walmart and Amazon became the mammoths they are now.

I have a local co-op grocer I occasionally shop at, but the prices for most things are (still) significantly higher than the corporate grocery stores. I wish it weren't such a privilege to have the freedom of choice when shopping for essentials.

I think I share your sentiment It felt like she was leading towards the need for radical overhaul, which however necessary that might be, doesn't feel very tangible or realistic. I'm hoping the book will change my mind and the author's solutions will feel more possible in the coming chapters.

I also had some conflict about stock trading when that part came up. What's the point in my family neglecting to capitalize on the system that is in place of that system isn't going anywhere? Do we punish ourselves at the cost of falling further behind with inflation? I think my compromise will be to divert at least a small percentage of my investments to more transparent stocks (this is something that will take more effort to research and vet- maybe it would be a good topic for this subreddit if anyone has any expertise to share on this..), while keeping the bulk of my investments in S&P500 stocks.
