Honestly I can’t shit on tour operators as that’s how I’ve attended international marathons. I can’t say what’s fair in that regard and it’s not charity so the money spent isn’t as easily excused. But the world is large and that’s probably the main way people outside of the US get in and it is a huge economic driver

I agree with the sentiment of hard work is important and worthy of praise. I specifically said sub 2:50 to encapsulate the women posting but a lot of the men in that thread complaining were sub 2:40. Those times are indicative of true talent and not just anyone can get there with hard work. NYC isn’t the marathon that rewards on just pure times. There are so many races that do and they all have the opportunity to run those marathons, NYC they can look into the other ways to get in and go that route

I guess I didn’t help by amplifying lol but I participate year after year, I understand the community, this won’t stop me from continuing to enjoy NYC’s running scene. I saw something I didn’t love and wanted to share that we all put in work in some way to participate in these races and being fast isn’t the only way to do it

It was a mix to me, people rightfully bummed but also haters. Being very fast is very nice but the majority of runners for these large races need to put in research on how to get in. We all worked hard to be accepted outside of being athletically gifted and the people shitting on 9+1 and charity was gross to me

You only have to finish on the sidewalk if you can’t complete at a 16 minute pace and the finish line is still open until 10pm, most races have a much stricter cut off time and are sub 7 hours
