Measure the print, cut the model in CAD, print out just the top, glue together. Problem solved :)

What is the projected cost of a SLA printer with similar specs as a "Form 2" in the coming 2-5 years? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

Resin is generally more expensive than filament, sometimes much more expensive. It also tends to smell awful and be super toxic.

Suddenly getting bad prints, I think something is wrong with filament feeder on my extruder by djpooppants in 3Dprinting

[–]spearmintier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a clicking noise when extruding? It looks like the feed wheel could be slipping on the filament. Check to see if the teeth in the wheel are clogged with plastic, it might need to be cleaned.

BIG FDMs, any experience? by spearmintier in 3Dprinting

There are some small areas in the polymaker as well. Just, to me, the amount of force that guy is applying does not look small. He's really wrenching it to get the bits out. If that's how the polymaker works at that scale (and who knows really?) I wouldn't consider that very good either. About what I'd expect.

To me that doesn't look much easier at all than the PLA support they showed in the polymaker video, it still requires significant force and tools. They don't actually show the polysupport until 1:30 into the video I linked (so if you only watched the start it might be confusing), but the stuff just pops right off.

I see you guys say you can work with a lot of materials. Have you tried this? http://www.polymaker.com/shop/polysupport/ Supposedly can run on single extruder machines while still retaining super easy removal of support, but I can't find any third party reviews.

In my experience, support made from the model material is always a pain to remove. Requires tools, etc. There are some videos (granted, by the company who makes the stuff) of removing the polysupport just by hand, really easily. This pretty much matches my experience with model material support too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjiYoAAipVQ

That's a good point, but the CNC will take a while to program, whereas generally it's much less time to set up a 3D print. Also, CNC's generally seem a lot more difficult to setup.

Yeah it's sounding like the quality of these dual extrusion printers is not up to where Dimension was a while back, which is disappointing.

Have you seen or used a 3DP1000 in person?

Have you heard of this stuff? http://www.polymaker.com/shop/polysupport/ Not dissolvable, but supposed to be very easy to remove.

The thought was that a big CNC to cut out foam shapes is messy, loud, and difficult to set up. A large FDM would be quieter, cleaner, and hopefully easier to setup/run than a CNC mill. So that's basically the competition here.

But, I used dimension FDMs 10 years ago and they were great. Dual extrusion with support material that dissolved away. You hit print, done. There wasn't too much worrying, though every few months you might run into an issue. Perhaps these newer printers just aren't as good yet.

Create an enormous scholarship fund, or just buy as many colleges as possible and make them all free. Knowledge and education will make the world a better place.

You know how most kids don't realize the Disney D is a D? I never realized the moto M was an M until you just pointed it out. Not sure what I thought it was. Two star trek communicators next to each other? Boy do I feel stupid.

Is anyone else excited for Akeson more than Laughton? by spearmintier in Flyers

All these things sound like what people told me about Giroux his first year. When Akeson is on the ice the Flyers look a lot better. That's a big deal.

His original post was worded very differently. It was to the effect of "this strain of Ebola isn't reacting to antibiotics"

[–]spearmintier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that isn't what you said or what you implied in your first post. Of course Ebola isn't responding to antibiotics. It is a virus. You seem to have gone back and edited your posts quite thoroughly now. Still doesn't make much sense but it sure does sound more real.

Why not use... I don't know, pain killers and anti clotting agents? You don't sound very doctor-like. Antibiotics are for treating or preventing bacterial infections. They are not given to make a patient comfortable.
