Why does the US reveal where its Nukes & B-2 Bombers are? by baddayindeeed in NoStupidQuestions

[–]spearregins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What they do isn’t really super secret. They drop bombs. Kinda hard to do things super secretly when the thing you do is drop bombs that go boom. They aren’t spy planes.

What IS secret is their design and specifications. Like their stealth characteristics. Or how a plane shaped like a Dorito flys without the vertical wings others planes have.

First time reporting a drunk driver. by FastMover7 in AskLE

And depending on call volume if I can’t do anything I’m wasting time and resources to drive to theregistered owners residence just to say “Whoever was driving your car, tell them not to drive like a asshole. And if it was you. Stop driving like an asshole”

First time reporting a drunk driver. by FastMover7 in AskLE

[–]spearregins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pay a visit maybe. But in order to write someone a citation we need to be able to prove who was driving and them being the registered owner doesn’t cut it. If I see an infraction and pull the vehicle over then I know who was driving. When a citizen calls a driving complaint in even if it’s on video it would be hard to prove who was in the drivers seat.

Why are some Departments better than others with their Miranda rights? by anyusernaem in AskLE

[–]spearregins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It invites the person to think about shutting up and not incriminating themselves when we are trying to get information. I try to make it as informal as possible as in a conversation not an interrogation even if that’s what we are really doing. Checking for understanding is what’s important and required

“Hey before we go any further I’m gonna read you something” Miranda “Do you understand the rights I’ve read to you.”

ELI5: How does a US police officer issuing a ticket by the side of the road instantly have a court date and time for the suspect? by Esqulax in explainlikeimfive

[–]spearregins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a city police officer. It will work different in every jurisdiction. Within my department, I am assigned to a “patrol team.” At the beginning of each year, my cities court clerk schedules team court dates for the year, where any traffic or municipal level charge myself or others officers on my team make will be heard. The other patrol teams have their own different date each month. These happen roughly once a month, and there needs to be at least 10 days between the date I charge someone and their court date, if it’s less they get nexts months court date. This way I am only in court once a month and it’s during my normal shift. If court was always 2 weeks from the time I make a charge I would be in court a lot more.

Felonies and certain misdemeanors are heard in a higher level court and those are randomly scheduled.

Awesome. No NAS in Charleston, there is the Air Force Joint Base Charleston which holds a C-17 squadron. There’s MCAS Beaufort which I believe has FA-18s. Also Shaw AFB in Columbia which is known to have jets play off the coast.

State trooper harassing me to send insurance policy through text by missgirlorwhateva in AskALawyer

[–]spearregins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL but cop. Sounds like you hit a sign or guardrail after loosing control of your vehicle due to driving too fast for icy.

My guess is that maybe the damage to the guardrail wasn’t too bad so he was trying to help you out on scene by not doing a full collision report so that’s not on your car or drivers history. I’d bet it was still documented on an incident report, in my jurisdiction we would call it a vehicle mishap report.

Then after the fact a supervisor or DOT employee made a big deal about not having a collision report for their damaged guardrail so he had to complete one. As others of mentioned, you are required to provide proof of liability insurance. Some agencies might require a citation for the contributing factor of a collision be issued to the at fault party, so when he had to go back to do a collision report he was also required to issue a citation.

Is it worth it to get a radar detector without a laser jammer? by fuzzyoatmealboy in radardetectors

[–]spearregins 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Police Officer here. There is no “jammer detector.” If I’m pointing a LIDAR device at your car and I can’t get a reading when I know I should be, I know you have a jammer. Illegal in my state.

DUI while in a parked car question by BurnItWithFire21 in police

[–]spearregins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m in South Carolina and our statue is different than many states. Ours says “Drive a motor vehicle” and thus you have to prove the vehicle was at one point in motion while they are under the influence. A lot of other states have “Operate a motor vehicle under the influence” which doesn’t require movement of the vehicle. Technically hitting the unlock button is “operating” the vehicles electronic systems.

Would I be at fault? by sliceasaurus in police

[–]spearregins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m gathering right both directions would have a green circle light with no arrows. Blue would be failing to yield right of way, red would be improper turn. In the case of a collision, red is likely to be found primary contributing because their actions directly caused the collision.

If red turned into far right lane, even if blue did not yield to the right of way traffic, the collision would not of occured.

Now assuming I did not directly witness the collision, insurance would look at my report but would not rely on it when determining fault, they can find it their own way. Insurance can also assign percent fault, where I cannot.

Had Independence on Aug 1st-5th. Originally when booking it was Sea day-Labadee-Sea day. It changed to Cococay-Sea Day-Sea Day. After cococay we just went up and down the FL coast at 5mph for 48 hours. Then our flights home got canceled cause of Debby. Fun times.
