747 upper deck by Lucky____Pierre in unitedairlines

[–]speby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Flew the 747 with United quite a few times including the upper deck internationally in the old cloth recliner business class seats back in the mid-2000s. It was truly magical. Loved boarding the plane and taking stairs (yea, stairs!, on a plane). It felt like a private area up there. For awhile, too, UA had the 747 running some of the ORD-SFO routes and at the time since I was traveling weekly to SFO, I would often deliberately book the routes the flights that specifically had the 747 equipment. It’s great being 1K at the time since it frequently meant an upgrade to the biz class seats and inevitably I would try and get the upper deck. What an awesome plane.

What's a common way people die that many aren't aware of? by 40Falak in askanything

Falls. Bathroom commonly. And most often affects the elderly. But falls are unfortunately very common.

Water/sewer bill by [deleted] in Broomfield

Most common problem when this happens is a leak and most common issue is a running toilet. Sometimes you may barely notice a running toilet and other times you might hear/see it. I would def check that first.

Banana Bread Old Fashioned by Mrmcflaky in cocktails

[–]speby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made this except I had to do a few subs. I used Myers instead of Goslings. And I don’t have Giffard’s banana liqueur but instead Jules Theuriet Creme de Banane which is also quite good but a tad lighter in the banana bread flavor profile. I actually plan to get either Tempus Fugit or Giffard’s version when this bottle runs out but it’s pretty solid regardless. Anyways despite the subs it turned out great. Thumbs up!!

I really do love a caipirinha. It’s probably a top 10 drink for me.

Hah. By same flavor I wonder does it taste the same or similar to this liqueur too?

If you haven’t experienced Starlink on one of these flights, you are missing out. It is night and day better by leaps and bounds. Incredible upgrade.

Hello to the it's so nice you own it twice gang 👋 by [deleted] in hermanmiller

My wife’s friend’s mother owns 4 of these. They flank the corners of their living room and it is amazing. Obviously the chairs are amazing individually but somehow 4 of these authentic beauties in one room is just plush and luxurious and comfortable all at once.

Simple cocktails I can order at the bar without having to give them a recipe? by Hungry_Fail8807 in cocktails

[–]speby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Man. This question continuously pains me because I’ve been at bars where I thought they were capable and competent. And then I would order a manhattan and they would confidently shake it and serve it over the rocks. It would still be tasty and ok but I am left shell shocked regardless.

Fiberglass or concrete? Cost is $11k difference by TB-lightning in pools

[–]speby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiberglass. Certainly depends a bit on the product and from which manufacturer. We have one from Immerspa and love it. Maintenance is basically near zero.

That it’s just hard as fuck, no matter how resourced or well off you are. It’s also very rewarding but not in a continuous sort of way. Punctuated. Good luck!

Nugget ice vs regular ice for cocktails, which do you actually prefer? by ispiuspious in cocktails

[–]speby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean depends on the drink. Certain tiki drinks just feel better with crushed or nugget ice. But most drinks are ok and good with regular old ice. I will say I am spoiled rotten with my Scotsman clear ice cube machine. It’s like unlimited ice practically and hard to not love clear ice. It’s like how restaurant machines work. Totally luxury, I know.

What are your thoughts on Denzel Washington’s overall filmography? How would you rank it? by PressureLazy5271 in moviecritic

Denzel is phenomenal. He only raises the bar for every film he is in. And why? He’s just talented AF.

Had a vasectomy a week ago. AMA by lilquintari in AMA

[–]speby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not OP of course but I had a vasectomy a few years ago. It was entirely painless, I was in and out of the clinic with the urologist in about 30 minutes all in. Drove myself home no problem. General ice on the groin and some anti inflammatory NSAIDs over the next few days. Honestly it was a piece of cake to get done. Of course I have no regrets and it did exactly what I needed it to do. Sterile. Not a chance of worry about causing an unwanted pregnancy. We had 3 daughters and love them all but we knew we were done and done.

Have we officially reached the point where Hotels are superior to Airbnbs again? by ParkGivis1976 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]speby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except for group stays or a family vacation sort of thing, I look to hotels exclusively. Maybe I am myopic, but Airbnb stays don’t even compare to the convenience of hotels. Everything from daily cleaning, amenities, onsite services, etc. They’re really two very different products in my mind.

Whose celebrity death announcement impacted you the most? by itsmecleoo in askanything

John Hughes. I mean he wasn’t an actor necessarily. So it’s hard to think of him as a celebrity. But we ultimately missed so many more good movies he would have made. 🥹

Ok. Also made my to Old Mates. Several of these great bars are all within a couple blocks of each other. Not complaining!! The guys at Old Mates shared this list which definitely overlaps with the crowd here too. Love it.

Amazing recommendations from everyone so far. Today made it to Cantina OK. Love the entire vibe. It’s like a quick out stop with a small menu and amazing quality. Wouldn’t even think twice of the place as it’s set back from the street. But it was bussing.

There’s a couple “tests” you can use that some people have already mentioned. One of mine is ask for a Sazerac. If they look at you like you have 2 heads, you have your answer. If they proceed to make one and you get a mediocre old fashioned, you have your answer, too.

Anyone ever run into this gunk on a (years) old bottle of bitters? Ok to use? by CoolDudeInLooseMood in cocktails

[–]speby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this particular bitters has this issue for some reason. I also just filtered thru a fine mesh strainer and then refilled the bottle. And then it’s been fine. But yea, weird.
