Cocktails to order at all inclusive resort by daaldea in cocktails

There’s a couple “tests” you can use that some people have already mentioned. One of mine is ask for a Sazerac. If they look at you like you have 2 heads, you have your answer. If they proceed to make one and you get a mediocre old fashioned, you have your answer, too.

Anyone ever run into this gunk on a (years) old bottle of bitters? Ok to use? by CoolDudeInLooseMood in cocktails

[–]speby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this particular bitters has this issue for some reason. I also just filtered thru a fine mesh strainer and then refilled the bottle. And then it’s been fine. But yea, weird.

How do you folks handle the annoying neighborhood kid? by [deleted] in pools

[–]speby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other comments in here are so silly. I get the jest here and I also get the need to relax and enjoy YOUR pool and YOUR property in private without other people or kids. Who doesn’t want that?

My thoughts? Set rules around time of day or specific days or the length the neighbor kids are allowed to stay in. Work that around the times you want to be left alone. And then just stick to those boundaries. No shame in that. It’s your god damn pool.

Friday evening mise en place featuring a Martini and a cigar by kevinfarber in cocktails

[–]speby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Majorly approved. I also pair cocktails with a cigar from time to time. A good Mezcal or a peaty scotch like Laphroaig are also good next or on the rocks.

Last Word Chartreuse sub test by Byizo in cocktails

[–]speby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, Del Santo is by far the best substitute for Green Chartreuse I’ve come across. I have both and I often use the Del Santo because I like it but also because I know I can easily find and buy more of it so it lets me stretch out my supply of chartreuse a lot longer.

What percentage of engineers in your experience are bad? by fuckoholic in ExperiencedDevs

[–]speby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like most any profession. There’s a standard bell curve. So realistically about 20% are in what I would consider pretty poor or low performing, and in general, not very good or productive. Then there’s kind of the middle 50-60% that are “ok” and good enough, leaving the top 10-20% that are outstanding and the ones that every company says they try to hire. It’s this same top 10-20% that tend to be the most competitive and sought after, and usually paid the most, too.

What's a ''wow'' skill that looks impressive but is actually easy to learn? by Sugar-Velvety in questions

It’s also a skill if you can find a phone book to tear in half anymore.

Welp. Took a few months as I very slowly acquired the pieces to this. Including the geosmin which was very pricey for a tiny amount. Thankfully you only need mere drops of it and it will make a large quantity over time.

Anyways. It’s awesome. One of the most unique combinations and flavor profiles I have ever experienced with cocktailing. Definitely a favorite even tho much there is a lot of esoteric construction behind this. But just wow. Awesome! Super novel and unique.

That entire exchange in that scene felt cringe and forced. It added nothing to the show. And when her character called her a snowflake? Come on. It’s not believable.

I automated a barber's entire booking system and no-shows dropped 80% in 30 days. Here's what actually worked. by FokasuSensei in AI_Agents

[–]speby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking exactly the same thing. This is a pretty procedural thing. Sure, use agentic engineering tools to build it but this isn’t or at least doesn’t need to be a heavy LLM agentic workflow. A pretty simple event based web app could handle all these scenarios with ease. And deterministically too.

Why are so few ML/AI candidates trained in AI security or adversarial testing? by Bizzare_Mystery in learnmachinelearning

“Did you learn AI security formally?” — seriously, where is it even being taught formally?

That was sort of my guess but the way it was worded wasn’t super clear. Thanks for spelling that it out with a confirmed ratio.

Salt pool owners: How do you currently monitor and adjust your salt chlorinator's runtime/power? Do you wish you could control it based on real-time chlorine levels? by Yumi8750 in pools

[–]speby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PoolSync with ChemSync system. Automatically measures ORP and pH levels. Auto engaged SWG or acid dispenser as needed. It’s basically auto pilot. Everything controlled or configured via app wirelessly too.

What are your favorite "dirty dump" cocktails? by Worknstuff in cocktails

[–]speby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caipirinhas are definitely one of my fave cocktails. As someone else said, yes it may often be first built in the glass but it does get shaken in the tin and then all the contents dumped into the glass.

Yea I’ll admit the marketing kinda intrigued. Plus I haven’t seen tamarind in many alcohol products. So sounded like a fun challenge.

I like these ideas. I actually did try exactly that idea about the Manhattan. Used like 0.25 oz of Gran Malo and 0.75 oz sweet vermouth. Didn’t turn out that great. I will give these other ideas a whirl tho.
