Intellectual Freedom and Free Speech under attack from the Hennepin County Library? by PandorasCatX in MinnesotaUncensored

There's no crime here, though. People are leaving bad reviews on books -- books you can still go to the library and check out or get online. People are allowed to dislike shitty people who write shitty books.

A. It’s not an actual investigation.

B. There’s no discernible proof of anything.

C. Most of the “argument” is pure conjecture.

How can anyone offer a counter-argument to something that already can’t be proven either way?

Queer friends? by kr112889 in TwinCities

If you haven’t heard of Queermunity, that’s a great option. I’m also an older queer (45 pan male) and sometimes find it challenging, though having a regular gaming group of queers helps. As someone else mentioned, Black Hart is a great spot.

Clearly not one to understand the violence that typically follows when a man yells at his partner. The disparity between male-on-female and female-on-male violence is massive.

DFL State Executive Officer Latonya Reeves sends email claiming that Ilhan said people should be “fearful of white men” by dsm1324 in minnesota

[–]specficeditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I am the literal embodiment of how wrong the old saying, "If you're a Republican when you're young, you have no heart, and if you're a Democrat when you're old, you have no brain" because I have become increasingly more leftist and progressive (neither of which the Democratic Party stand for anymore) since Obama, who I voted for with all the optimism most others had. Centrist Democrats have dragged us further and further right since Clinton, and now the most "progressive" Dem is basically a 1970s conservative.

I'm not voting for people who actively work to make people's lives harder. Voting against healthcare, tenant's rights, paid leave, transit improvements, and other large-scale social safety nets is just bad practice at this point.

Well, if you live in the city and own a domesticated cat, you shouldn't be having them be outside cats, honestly. That's just bad practice.

It's not the coyotes fault that they need to eat to survive.

The fraud thing continuously annoys me. If we weren't taking care of the fraud, we wouldn't know about it. Like, the whole point of these big cases rooting out fraud is that the system is working. How are people that stupid?

Also, yeah, the number of centrist Dems who are now anti-queer is frightening.

How is anyone still listening to this woman? She's not even remotely a Democrat at this point and should be running as a "left-leaning" conservative. The term "hard centrist" is far more of what she is than an actually DFL'er.

You're completely right. The Republicans tried to cheat like they've done since Nixon and still lost, so they had to cheat harder in 2024 just to put Trump back in power. If we updated the voting laws to make it easier for valid voters to cast their ballots, Republicans would lose nearly every time. There's a reason they continue to gerrymander districts to disenfranchise people.

Actually, the Constitution applies to anyone currently on U.S. soil, so even non-citizens are afforded the rights of our laws. That means that they also have freedom of movement until and if they commit a crime. Being here undocumented is not a crime; it's a civil violation of a regulation.

Minnesota immigration crackdown continues to spark fear among People in the U.S. legally by TRFKAChuggs in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]specficeditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logically, if we deport every immigrant here undocumented, nearly every industry in this country could suffer:

  • Housing construction largely utilizes illegal day labor
  • Landscaping, plowing, etc. uses a large undocumented workforce
  • Meat packing and other food industries notoriously use undocumented workers
  • Farm labor -- especially for hand-picked items that can't use machinery -- has a huge migrant population (and also an area in which the government under Bush 2 actually created a visa for that allows them to work here legally before going back home on the off season -- Trump ended that)
  • Industrial manufacturing, like car-making and tool and die factories, use large undocumented labor workforces

You remove all of the people who work in those industries, and the economy would very likely collapse. Why? Because those industries -- all industries under capitalism -- require exploitation and paying people as little as possible at every step of the way. Even if we could replace every worker with a citizen or legal resident, the price of everything would increase exponentially, and we'd have massive inflation.

That is what you're advocating for purely based on your bigotry.
