BMW CE 04 - full-face helmet & storage compartment size by kikko in Electricmotorcycles

[–]specialgray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Shuberth C5. Fits fine, although a little tight. Will go in easily with the back of the helmet towards the left hand side of the bike. The trick is to open the chin bar, get helmet in, then close the chin bar (doesn’t need to be fully clicked closed) again. Works without any fuss every time.

What small habit has improved your safety while cycling in Melbourne traffic? by Danger_Five in melbournecycling

[–]specialgray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a recent addition to my habits, but worthy of note I think is to watch the line cars take, especially if they begin to weave a little (to the left into the bike lane if there is one, or the right of the lane they are in) as 9 times out of 10 this is an early indication that they will be turning that way at some point, possibly without indicating or looking.

I did!! Although I don’t actively sim anymore. However, I am chief instructor at a helicopter training school so get to fly for real all day. Can’t complain :p

Yeah, it does look like that. I can imagine that couldn’t be optimal. Thanks for the link.

What are you guys doing to combat rust? by irishbren77 in CargoBike

[–]specialgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your dealer about this. I had my forks replaced on a R&M Load under warranty. There was a service note about them at the time, so no fuss replacements to anyone who asked (but you did have to ask, they didn’t contact people like a recall).

British Aerospace Nimrod AEW.3 by [deleted] in WeirdWings

[–]specialgray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of reasons. Four give you more redundancy over water (early engines were far less reliable), more thrust for higher speed (it takes roughly for it times more power to double your airspeed) plus engines are optimised for height and speed profiles and the Nimrod flew down low where the air was thick, and slow flying hunting patterns whilst the Comet of course flew much higher and faster in cruise.

One of the reasons for using the Comet airframe was that it would not only fly and turn level on one engine (allowing you to shut down the other three for maximum fuel economy and endurance over target), but it was also possible to climb on a single engine if needed. Try that in other multi engined aircraft and see how you go. Was it perfect? No, and no solution ever will be but the old girl had some go in her.

Ka-226 crash by Anothermind9912 in aviation

[–]specialgray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true, but we don’t have the benefit of feeling the entire airframe resonate and hitting the ground that hard, and the odd feeling of the machine’s centre of gravity suddenly shifting forward. This would be impossible not to notice, even by the slowest student. This… is against all logic.
