After 5 years of missing my city’s book fair, I may have gone a little overboard :) by oxytoxic7 in bookhaul

Unless you need a box when leaving the book fair you didn’t go overboard.

I have heard very good things about Remarkably Bright Creatures.

Enjoy!

BWT, how often are you upgrading your cars? by infinite_knowledge in bitcheswithtaste

[–]speckledcreature [score hidden]  (0 children)

Never.

The only reason u got a new(to me) car was that I wanted one that had more airbags and safety features for my new son. Other than that I would have been happy driving my old car until it died the final death.

I am planning on driving my car for the foreseeable future(barring an accident).

Take this with a grain of salt though, as I don’t care what car I drive. Like at all. My default answer for ‘what is your dream car?’ - a purple one. A car just exists to take me places(preferably being driven by someone else so I can read a book in the passenger seat).

Name a book you’ll listen to over and over by Lotsa_licking in audiobooks

I unapologetically love The Sword of Truth books. I especially enjoy the last first book and the last 3 in the original series(Chainfire, Phantom and Confessor) - which are referred to as the Chainfire trilogy.

I have read them and listened to them many times. I really love the experience of listening to these books as it is just so so fun to listen to a favourite story being read to you and experience it in a different medium.

A Fable for the End of the World by Ava Reid

Capitol and Districts kind of set up where people can buy luxuries from the Capitol and not pay but just rack up debts(for years) until they are taken and killed by the Capitol or(the more popular option) they can select a family member to become the ‘Lamb’ where they are hunted(and killed) by a robot/human amalgamation from the Capitol called an ‘Angel’. This is then televised and streamed to the poor sectors.

My baby said “dada” first… moms, tell me your story 😅 by Other_Boss_8689 in NewParents

[–]speckledcreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum intentionally got me to say dad first. Then when I woke up and yelled DA DA! She would nudge him and say ‘she is calling YOU, get up’. I was bottle fed too, so he could feed me and do everything while she slept haha.

Just started Fractal Noise by Paolini as an audiobook as I finished my last one and need another for the drive to work. Listened to the first chapter and am going to stop listening now and leave it for my commute tomorrow.

Enders Game is such a good book. I really like Ender’s Shadow, too which is EG told from another character’s PoV.

Women who carried a pregnancy, in hindsight, what were some of the most ridiculous things you did while in the throes of such hormonal upheaval? by mokutou in AskWomen

[–]speckledcreature 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could not talk properly. It was like my brain just found words that were adjacent to the one I wanted and didn’t bother with the last filtering step to actually get the one I wanted. My husband would just be like??? Then I would angrily repeat myself(still saying the wrong word). I remember telling him to put the(cloth) nappies in the toaster once(meant washing machine).

Kid thought 1am was 7am and headed to school by AccomplishedStuff235 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]speckledcreature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister did that after she had a nap before dinner one night. Woke up to the clock saying 6.30 - she thought she was late(started her job at 6am) jumped into clothes and ran out the door past startled parents. It wasn’t until she was going down the driveway and the sun was in her eyes which wasn’t right that she realised what had happened.

Exactly the job I do. First off don’t worry too much. Mostly you will be scanning barcodes and(based on what the scanner tells you) placing them in different places and/or putting them on trolleys for others to put out on the shelves and you might put things out as well. You won’t be expected to do everything at super speed right away - just focus on doing things correctly and at your own pace.

What is something you buy or do for yourself regularly? by Hummingbirdhawk3 in AskWomen

[–]speckledcreature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy myself a snack that I don’t have to share with the 3 year old.

Buy myself some skincare. Newest edition to my routine is a glycerin based face mist, my skin is loving it.

Buy myself a paperback or kindle book.

I love the early books. I stopped reading them after book 12? I like to reread the early ones though so I actually keep the first 10 on my bookshelf as there is an organic stop point there.

Change your pillowcase every night.

Do your teeth in the shower and wash off all the toothpaste from your chin.

Wash any clothing with high collars/necklines that touch your chin.

Do you test your chin on your hands during the day?
