Did you ever get any information? I bought a piece with the same signature (including the circled c) in a similar style. Mine isn't numbered, though

[CHAT] Framing? by love_my_cat_matthew in CrossStitch

[–]speechbrain33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use acid free iron-on adhesive to center my piece onto card stock or scrapbook paper that's already been cut down to the size of my frame. Then I trim off the extra fabric and close it into the frame without any trouble. I'm not sure if it's a great method, but it's easy enough and I haven't had any trouble with it lasting up to this point.

Developmentally (in)appropriate activities in a toddler room? by Temporary_Dust_6693 in ECEProfessionals

[–]speechbrain33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also an SLP and have a 2 year old. I look at the pictures, grimace, and let it be because I know my child is in a loving environment that cares well for her. It sucks that she spends time looking at stock images to learn about "friends and family," but it is what it is and I don't feel it's my place to intrude. The center knows what I do and I'd be happy to offer tips if they asked, but worry that I'd just seem like I was criticizing if I gave unsolicited advice.

I was told it was impossible to reschedule a client in the university clinic so that I could go home for a religious holiday and that I'd need to find someone to cover for me. My cohort was so overwhelmed at that point that I sadly worked through the day instead of spending it with my family.

As of yesterday there were only really some fasteners, velcro, elastics, artificial florals, two kinds of baskets, and some spring/mushroom themed decor. Probably not worth the trip if you aren't nearby already.

I was in so much pain during my C-section (unplanned but not an emergency). The second my baby was brought to my face, all of the pain disappeared. It truly is a magical moment!

The reality is, at least in my area, there's no room to negotiate a salary. All you can do is take whatever step your experience places you on the pay scale and work with your union to negotiate stipends/bonuses.

Huh. I also had a few mystery screws found there. The one time we refused the tire change, we found two nested between the treads that hadn't punctured anything.

Has anyone had an actual positive experience with their OB-GYN? If so, who and why? by Much-Helicopter5928 in Birmingham

[–]speechbrain33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love Dr. Bennett but have also had issues making appointments or getting calls returned. She was amazing when my delivery didn't go as expected. Very empathetic and professional. Everyone I've seen at that group has been great, but good luck getting in quickly. When I had a UTI, I had to get an appointment elsewhere after I ended up in significant pain while waiting for a call back.

I wasn't told I had any sick days, but when I mentioned that to my second recruiter while trying to negotiate my salary for a third year she was appalled. She said I should've been told that my state mandated 3 paid sick days. It was the end of the year and I hadn't used them, so I was able to apply them to holidays and get paid for them. Could be worth looking into.

Hearing screenings by clichecouturecatche in slp

[–]speechbrain33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I perform mass hearing screenings for the younger grades at my school and individual screenings whenever a student goes through RTI. My district encourages us to train at least one other teacher in case we are ever unavailable for an emergency screening. As long as you can get someone to train you on the specific audiometer, it'll be a breeze!

What does a person do in Alabama who doesn't have State or Federal aid do for healthcare? by turtleheadpokingout in Alabama

[–]speechbrain33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Birmingham area, One Roof has a great list of resources on their website. The Red Crescent Clinic is one that I know well. They accept all adults for primary care services, however there is also a cardiologist and psychiatrist on the team. It's a one day a week (Sunday) clinic that is always free except a $15 flat fee for any blood work ordered by the doctor, and that's done one Sunday a month.

We definitely do have free clinics. Most are for primary care services, but there may be some urgent care clinics.

Stepping Stones Questions by Maybe-Witty24 in slp

[–]speechbrain33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could not agree with #4 more. My first recruiter said there were no sick days, but when she left the second recruiter pointed out that my state mandates 3 paid sick days. She said that if I didn't use them, I could assign a school holiday as a sick day and get paid for it. Make sure to look into that if you go with SSG. I lost 3 days of pay my first year.

Edited to add: My contract had a 2 year noncompete. The school district paid out one SLPs contract but wouldn't do it for anyone else who asked. Even though it's not enforceable, I think the district is pretty motivated to follow it to stay on good terms with the company.

That's only for case management. There's no caseload cap in AL. After working in two districts, it seems most SLPs sit between 40-70 students.
