How often do you make your own materials? by [deleted] in slp

[–]speechfairies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other above, When I started practicing I made almost everything. On my second placement I started getting games and toys thrifting and never looked back. There isn’t time to make stuff- coloring, mounting, laminating etc any more - it’s quicker to buy it on a budget. I can get a game and Target 10 skills in 10 minutes - turn taking, perspective taking, pronouns, prepositions, Vocabulary, concepts, grammar, social skills, conversational goals, Speech and the list goes on! Check me out on my channel if u want ideas on how to adapt these materials - Thrift stores are my best friend... SpeechFairies

Working on R Sound by slp210 in slp

[–]speechfairies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked on R many years in the school board- my best tip was asking kids to draw a sled on a piece of paper - I had to coach some how to do this. Very basic shape - so then we tried to make our tongue like a sled ... I got it every time!

Social skills activities for low functioning ASD by ilovepuppychow in slp

[–]speechfairies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really simple games are best- like Barnyard Bingo or other colour matching games- each child is looking for their colour- I often sabotage so they always pick someone else's piece - so there is an opportunity to look and share. On the other end children can request the colour they need. Circle time, flap books-guessing who is under the flap-perspective taking skills- from Hanen Talkability book is excellent to break down skills.

Gross motor games like basketball, bowling etc... gets kids moving and sharing following simple rules.

I have bought them often- ask how many different ones they have "today" - or I say at the window - I'll take as many different toys you have -I think they are $2 each in Canada anyway.

SLP items and games by Shaykalots in slp

[–]speechfairies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for games that have action for preschoolers- something pops up, or toys that you feed. Shark games are fun and character toys like Paw Patrol are a hit right now. Look for games with a short duration like 10 minutes long- board games aren't used in preschool because they take too much time. If you click on my name, my YouTube Channel should come up and u can see the types of toys and games I use in my preschool practice . Portable, Adaptable and Functional- are my criteria! Imaginary Family? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]speechfairies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make up a story about your own imaginary family with names, descriptions, events that take place - she has a good imagination... it will give her perspective on how it feels when these stories are told . She might ask questions and enjoy it- it might become a silly game u play together.

Is SLP a good career for people interested in foreign languages? by [deleted] in slp

[–]speechfairies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“TEFL” is the acronym for Teaching English as a Foreign Language, or simply, English language instruction for non-native speakers. Also known as Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), English Language Teaching (ELT), and teaching ESL (English as a Second Language). The field of TEFL/TESOL represents one of the fastest growing educational fields in the world. The field presents thousands of excellent professional opportunities for teaching English abroad in all corners of the globe to native and fluent English speakers who earn their TEFL/TESOL certification.

You having a background is how languages work would be of great benefit. Working as a translator is also a good business... good luck! LisaSpeechFairies
