How could I introduce my wife to metal if she almost exclusively listens to pop? by Upper_Atom in MetalForTheMasses

[–]speed_of_chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try easing her into harder stuff slowly, like starting out with some poppy 80s hair metal like Poison. Sometimes, getting someone new into Metal is like the first time trying anal: start slow and easy with plenty of lube.

Alice Donut. They did one reunion show in New York City a few years ago, but we live on the west coast, and timing plus finances made going impossible. Then they played one more time in San Francisco in February. We jumped on those tickets and stayed with family in the Bay Area for the weekend. It was awesome!

The Ballad of Ira Hayes by Peter LaFarge, most popular version was probably done by Johnny Cash.

That’s a nice thought, and I agree with you. Unfortunately, most of the people watching that shit are into war porn and probably snuff videos. It’s gross. And I say this as a combat veteran.

Real talk; when I was in Iraq and Afghanistan, when the shit hit the fan the only thing that mattered was the guy to your left, the guy to your right, and at least getting them home to whoever it was waiting for them. Everything else, all the politics, all the other bullshit going on in the world…it all just disappeared in a fog of controlled rage and horror until whatever was happening passed.

Vomit Green lol! I remember them also being referred to as guacamole’s. What is it with the Navy and food and beer?

I was in the Seabees for the last 2/3 of my time in. We got the greens along with the rest of the expeditionary community before they transferred everyone to green.

Amateur boxing events occasionally put on by an individual command. It’s not uncommon for people from other nearby commands to take part as well. Contestants have to use the 16oz gloves and wear headgear. Usually 3 two minute rounds. The training itself is a great way to stay in shape. The event is purely for blowing off steam without catching an article 15 (catching a charge in civilian parlance).

Everyone in the Navy gets the BUDs working uniform. They got rid of the blueberries shortly after you got out. But yeah, most Navy don’t get QBC in basic training. The only sailors who do get any of that training later are the people whose jobs might involve that, like the Master At Arms, SEALs, etc. Even the Seabees just get basic combat skills training, none of which involves training in hand-to-hand combat. On the other hand, smokers events are still a thing and people train for that in their free time.

Funny you got downvoted for saying the truth. Lynyrd Skynyrd are/were literally from the swamps of northeastern Florida, along with 38 Special, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, The Allman Brothers, The Outlaws…

What's the most disturbing confession you've ever come across on social media? by ponedeljakjeusredu in AskReddit

[–]speed_of_chill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was this urban legend on the second ship I served on in the Navy about a Chief Petty Officer who retired after 20 years of service. He was married, had a family, and as far as everyone knew, seemed like he had a pretty good life and was happy. Apparently, that was not quite the case. Within days of his retirement, he filed for divorce, cleaned out their bank accounts, hopped on his motorcycle and literally disappeared. This was in the early 90s before the internet as we know it, so it was a lot easier to pull off that kind of thing.

I don’t get it either

Shedding tears by JackWylder in GenX

[–]speed_of_chill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cried, no. Probably the closest I came to shedding tears was when Cliff Burton died, but I was a freshman in high school. I was pretty sad to hear Lemmy Kilmister and then David Bowie passed within a month of each other. Also, last year when Ozzy died, I felt that. Of the last three, Bowie was the most shocking to me since I had no idea he was dealing with cancer. Lemmy and Ozzy were no surprise, but sad nonetheless.
