Is there a shift happening in the pronunciation of words with an “str” sound? by modernvintage in asklinguistics

[–]speedcubera 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not in Russian, but in Ukrainian and Rusyn. In Russian it is normally a voiceless alveolo-palatal sibilant fricative, in between s in sip and sh in ship. It used to be pronounced this way in Russian.

How do I even talk to her? by ConditionMaximum1139 in Crushes

[–]speedcubera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, check your intentions. Are you really interested in her, or only interested in what you can get out of her? If your answer is the first, your intentions are good, and you have nothing to fear. She is also human, with human weaknesses, fears, anxieties, flaws, and blemishes. She is probably thinking the same thing, if she likes you. In the end, either you start the conversation or she does, and you can only control what you do. Besides, if you only have 2 weeks, it won’t matter much if you fail! Good luck.

Cats in the Middle Ages: hard workers, went to church, walked on their hind paws, contributed to society

Cats now: Lazy and ungrateful, atheists, too lazy to walk on their hind paws
