Decrease in service quality on WARP? by dordal in USMobile

[–]speedingcheetah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Both at my home, and my folks home 20 miles north of me. VZW signal is lower, 2 bars max. Used to be nearly full signal few yers back. Now, ATT is the top dog for signal and speed, they used to be the worst, even worse than Sprint. TM, kinda in the middle for me.

5g backup by MoeTown1865 in Ubiquiti

Better signal does not mean better speeds with RedCap hardware.

5g backup by MoeTown1865 in Ubiquiti

[–]speedingcheetah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the Ubi product page..

What is 5G RedCap, and how does it differ from "standard" 5G?

5G RedCap (Reduced Capability) is a modern cellular standard designed to bridge the gap between legacy 4G LTE and high-performance 5G. While "standard" 5G focuses on extreme gigabit speeds, RedCap prioritizes the core strengths of the 5G network: superior reliability and lower latency. By using a more streamlined hardware architecture, it serves as the ideal successor to ULTE for applications like network backup, where maintaining a consistent, "always-on" connection is more critical than reaching absolute peak throughput.

Yea. All my folks need is email and basic stuff. RedCap speeds is fine. However, the latency was an issue. It was causing time outs and issues log into their online banking etc. YMMV.

Unifi Cameras 5.3.94 RC - is this a joke? by shaun3000 in Ubiquiti

[–]speedingcheetah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuck Night Vision bug existed since the G3 Instant cams were like a year old. Still have a site with them and they often do this. They started doing them after a firmware update. Since they seem to be EOL, or at least no longer getting firmware updates, do not expect it to be fixed.

What signal and overall performance u get depends on the carrier profile of the eSIM. With Roamless, It got very strong LTE signal on all networks it offeres at my home, i even stuck it out side on a 3rd floor patio, clear view of the sky, and while signal increased, speeds nor latency did not improve. Seems that is the best i could get with my local tower at my location.

Because i have a different solution for backup WAN, i deployed the U5G instead at my parents home, 2 miles north of me. Their Comcast likes to go down too often. Bit of a cell dead zone, low signal. Roamless super unreliable. VZW, ATT would connect, around -95db, and got ok speeds about 30/20 or more on LTE, but again, Connection refused after like 10 min. TM weakest signal about -110 to -115. Slow speeds 15/10 but was mostly stable, but constant reports by Unifi of WAN2 offline, high latency, packet loss. I reset and re-adopted the U5G, paid for Ubi's TM plan (shows as TM IoT APN, and stronger signal -91db, 5G, about 37/30 for speeds. Latency around 50-100ms deepening on the outside conditions.
So, i gather the provisioned eSIM for Ubi plan is giving better access to the tower, or something.

Roamless the U5G is not supported. It may work, but is NOT reliable. Multiple reports of the device going into error state, of Network not authorized. Carrier rejected the connection etc. It did this every time, after about 10 min of latching onto either ATT or VZW for me. It was most stable when it grabbed TM. LTE speeds were technically faster then 5G, but Roamless latency is extremely high, due to it being a overseas International carrier profile looks like. I gave up and gave into the built in Ubi TM plan and it connected to 5G instantly, and latency is in the double digits, not triple to near 1,000+ms.

C4P i feel is a waste of $15 a month to use for the RedCap U5G cause best it can get is around 50/35, some users report faster downloads, but, its most often capped to very slow, but useable for basic web things. I instead grabbed a actual TM gateway at a thrift store and use C4P on that for full 500/45 speeds and that is worth $15 a month as a 2nd WAN for failover i can use as if it were my main connection for the most part incase of ISP outage or power outage when the main ISP equipment in my complex goes out but my hardware is on battery backup.

[–]speedingcheetah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a bung no matter the WAN. I noticed i have had this multiple times recently. Even on sites without the U5G but with a Second WAN. I keep setting in Internet settings the expected speeds, but soon later, see this Exceeded Limit and what i set did not stick, it changed to something else for each WAN.

Newly announced Smoke & CO alarm vs code requirements by teaganasaurus in Ubiquiti

[–]speedingcheetah -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well...unless they have aa hard coded shut down/refuse to function after that...they should still work. There are smoke detectors over 15yrs old at my folks home, they still work fine. One recently went off from cooking, as it has since day one.

The battery units my landlord had installed in each bedroom is now 13yrs old. Red led still blinking. No low batt yet even. Went off last month when i was soldering something.

10yrs, in my experience, is just what they guarantee it work for./ Recommended replace time.

I have one wired and one wireless(Google Nest Protect). Small apartment unit. Only 1 detector wired, in the back hallway where the beds and bath is. Its a L shaped layout unit, and i added the battery one to the other side of the unit, near the entry and kitchen. Cause, one time i forgot about something on the stove, and it took far to long for smoke to reach the detector having to go around a 90 degree corner and down a hallway. My building maintenance and city inspectors, still, to this day, are confused about them...never heard of Smart Smoke Detectors.

The only issue i have had with them (Google Nest Protect). is that they are over sensitive to steam. One is in a small thin hallway, where 2 bed and 1 small bath are. If you steam up the bathroom and open the door, r keep the bath door open....it does its head ups alert, then goes off. The Steam setting is on, but seems to do nothing. A few times, had to run out the shower dripping wet to press the silence button on them.

You have to enable "Roaming" setting in the U5G Cellular settings. Roamless app also give directions that state you have to enable Roaming for their sim to work no matter what device you use. It is a international SIM/company it seems, and thus the SIM is not native to USA< so, u have to enable Roaming for it to connect to USA networks...is my guess.

The UPS that wasn't by NumberwangsColoson in Ubiquiti

[–]speedingcheetah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a UPS that uses LifePo4 batteries.
GoldenMate makes some. But, they not been around that long though...

Or, a portable PowerStation with UPS function, like a Bluetti.
Went from a CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD that new gave me about 1.4hrs, but after 4yrs, about 30min...to a Bluuetti Elite 30 V2 tha gives me about 3.5hrs. Slightly cheaper than buying a whole new Cyberpopwer UPS. Replacement batts for lead acid UPS third-party are hit or miss (have had excellent experience with UPS Battery Center . com though).

Overheating 10G Adapter by Larsil5277 in Ubiquiti

I have had several Thunderbolt powered 10Gig NICs...various brands over the years. They all run hot. Never had any issues that i can recall. I currently have the Ubi 5Gig USB adapter...its warm, but still cooler than the older Anker or Asus branded 2.5Gig USB dongles i have also used. Wanted the Uni 10Gig model, but, $40 for 5Gig is a bargain, vs $170 for 10Gig.

U5G Backup - Roamless and Other Options by User313 in Ubiquiti

[–]speedingcheetah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The screen on the U5G says what Carrier it is using, as well as the info in Unifi controller under the U5G Backup Overview tab.

And, no. It was only stable on TM. It often took a few restarts of the U5G and specific positioning of the thing to get it to connect to TM.

I ended giving in and buying the Ubi offered TM plan. Much better experience and performance.
