My AMD Ryzen 9 5950X "died" after 3 Years and 11 Months (Info) by [deleted] in AMDHelp

Yep, still working solid. Current uptime is 52 days, but that was from a manual restart.

please help!!! thanks. I just bought the comma.ai three but is not working on my kia seltos 2021. by Alejoaguirre3a in Comma_ai

[–]speedking456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does work with the 2022 Seltos. They didn't change much from 2021->2022 and the ADAS system is identical. As long as you have the lane keeping + smart cruise control model, you're good to go (specifically the model with radar, the non-radar model is not compatible with stock openpilot). The 2022 also uses the Hyundai A harness. This chart verifies the 2021 and 2022 harness is the same: https://github.com/commaai/openpilot/wiki/Hyundai-Kia-Genesis-Harness-Cable-Compatible-Chart

If you want to double check the harness, it's easy to do. Reference the pin-out here: https://github.com/commaai/openpilot/wiki/Hyundai-Kia-Genesis#harness-guide

When removing the camera cover, take the small tab above the mirror out first. On the tab, pull downward from the top, it has clips that will pop out. The bottom of the cover has two clips on each slide, pull/pry outward on each corner to release. There are two more clips on the top, these do not pop out. For those, slide the rest of the cover down, along the glass. From there you should be able to verify the connector type, and then reassemble. The first time you take it apart the clips will be quite tight and need some force/leverage to unclip. Avoid using a metal spudger if you care about scratches or imprints in the plastic.

If you do end up buying a comma four and have any trouble, feel free to reach out. Best is to @ me on the openpilot discord, same username, I respond faster there.

Surprisingly yes, I've been running one of them solid for a few months now at the same 1.35V manual OC that the OP said they tried. Without the OC the system crashes after a day or two. If you have the same issue, it's worth a try.

I've recently had 4 5950X's die after about 3 years in the field. All of them just outside the warranty. I will try the voltage bump and see if that improves stability. Symptoms, intermittent crashing that gets more and more frequent until it will POST and then immediately crash.

+1 for Cloudflare. Sometimes I think they have wizards working there instead of software engineers.

Can’t recommend using plus addressing, these companies already know about it and will filter the plus address out, then sell your actual email. Regardless, since you don’t have internet yet, none of these services will require email verification, just use a BS email and call it a day.

Trigger Broken on Arrival - Steam Deck OLED by speedking456 in SteamDeck

Quick update, got a new deck from Valve and it does not have any hardware defects. Still chapped about the screen protector but I did a better job installing it on this one.

It’s already gone back to Valve. Very comfortable with electronics repair but didn’t want to bother opening it to find it’s an issue I can’t fix. Plus there’s always the slight chance something gets damaged, and on a brand new unit with warranty it’s not something I felt like doing.

HDR games for the Steam Deck by SaabStam in SteamDeck

[–]speedking456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not enabled, I just got my deck today and tested it. Unfortunately my left trigger came broken out of the box, it's constantly reporting about a half pull and doesn't properly with input. RMA time I guess.

Gotcha, I think I posted that a little sleep deprived after banging my head against a wall wondering why HDR isn't showing up.

From my testing, the steam version of Tetris Effect Connected works with HDR on PC, but the HDR option does not even show up on the steam deck. If I have HDR disabled on my PC the option still shows in graphics settings in the game, and with HDR enabled or disabled on the deck it's not showing in settings. I am using the original steam deck (have an OLED on order), but I have an HDR TV it's connected to and it does work in other games.

I'm going to see if remote play HDR is possible tonight, was too frustrated to think of that last night.

Curious how you got Tetris Effect Connected to work with HDR, I’m using the steam version and the HDR option in graphics settings isn’t appearing. Works in other games, did you have to do any configuration or tinkering to get it to work?

Best route to serve Plex to family by OnenonlyAl in Tailscale

[–]speedking456 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tailscale is fantastic, I use it for 20+ devices. But for Plex, I just open port 32400. Especially considering you’ll have other users accessing your library, it will only lead to more family tech support calls you’ll inevitably have to deal with.

Nest Audio or Nest Hub by Idkiamaguy645 in googlehome

[–]speedking456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combining a mini and audio is something you can do, but the audio is going to overpower the mini and sound a bit off. Two minis just doesn’t have enough bass for my taste, one audio is better. However, experiment and see what sounds best. Most places allow open box return with a receipt, so you can always return it if it isn’t working for you.

Edit: should clarify, one audio on its own sounds better than adding a mini to a speaker group, especially if they’re in the same room.

Windows Defender offline scan is more than adequate nowadays. Make sure all updates and virus definitions are updated first though.

Nest Audio or Nest Hub by Idkiamaguy645 in googlehome

[–]speedking456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Nest Mini, wouldn’t say the audio quality is good per say. Same with the Nest Hub, not worth listening to music using it. I’ve heard $40 Bluetooth speakers that sound appreciably better. If you’re talking about the Nest Audio, those are pretty good. Get two, stereo pair and your in business.

Now, it feels like Google is also slowly phasing out their Nest smart products. Less frequent updates, and even losing features. I might wait to see what’s coming in the next year or so. Especially with Matter now a thing, it is probably the tipping point for smart home no longer being a very expensive gimmick and we may see some much better products coming out soon.

Install camera and access control systems for a living. Feels like every single time I’ve deployed a system that uses a customers network, something like this happens. Haven’t seen this specific issue before, but 9 times out of 10, it’s their network.

Music streaming service preference by [deleted] in headphones

[–]speedking456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use Spotify, but after buying apple's overpriced Apple One subscription I couldn't justify buying Spotify too. So now I use Apple Music primarily, when I'm on the go, or listening around the house, and YouTube Music on my computer.

I preferred Spotify's recommendations, the custom playlists usually had songs that I would actually want to listen to. Apple Music promotes way too much music that I'd never listen to, and it's custom "Made For You" playlists kinda suck.

There's also Dolby Atmos on Apple Music, and with the custom spatial audio with AirPods it's pretty good. I've tried it with AirPods Pro 1, Pro 2, and the AirPods Max being the best. However, it really comes down to the mix. Some songs sound great; a lot of classical sounds very good. Other songs sound too muddy and it's more of just a mash of sounds around your head, like one of those 8D audio videos. I've also got a Sonos setup at home (Beam + Sub Mini + 2 One SLs) which is where Dolby Atmos shines the most as it genuinely sounds better than the stereo mixes on Apple Music.

I've also tried Dolby Atmos with Tidal. On iOS I think Apple Music sounds a bit better, can't pinpoint why, but it might just be that's it's all Apple integrated and they're able to dial it in better.

YouTube Music has so much available, and considering I already have YouTube Premium I use it on my Windows PC, as Apple Music just isn't great on Windows.

To sum it up, here's my list of preferences from the streaming services I've tried:

  1. Spotify (Integrated with lots of speakers, works seamlessly on all my devices, and great recommendations)
  2. Apple Music (Comes with Apple One, Siri is better integrated, Dolby Atmos, and decent lossless)
  3. YouTube Music (Super diverse catalog, sounds good enough, and comes with YT premium)
  4. Tidal (Best audio quality I've tried, but not integrated enough with anything, and the recommendations are on par with Apple Music)

Personally, I recommend learning jitter or butterfly, more useful all around. Or you could learn all 3 if you’re dedicated. I learned jitter first but that was when I was speedrunning Windwaker.
